Corporal Brown, John /1030 //Construct
[Buy reading this post you accept I am not liable for any seizures or convulsions.]
John brushed through his hair with his fingers. Dirt and debris followed every stroke. He rubbed his face and slipped his helmet snugly back over his head. "Private Black," John's voice was stern,"I agree." Brown stood himself face the rest of the soldiers and spoke, "This squad of men, and women, is most likely one of the more capable and valuable resources to that ship we call home now deep in the dirt. Our injuries are ineffectual in comparison to the remaining aboard this rock." John's gaze passed through the eyes of his fellow soldiers, mostly the privates. "It is our duty as Marines to clear the way for the others to reach home safely."
John stepped over a nearby incline scanning the terrain with his hand over his brow. "I can get us there," he turned, "but I need your cooperation." Stepping out into the clearing John held his shotgun up vertical. "We're going quiet," John flicked his safety, "that means no rounds."
He lowered his gun back towards the ground. "Now obviously, there ain't enough shells in my 8-gauge to take back the Sunrise." John smirked. "Let's keep a keen eye out for some assistance in the form of some big-a** purple s**t."
"Any objections ladies?"

Private Sullivan, Wren 'Hunter' > ERR.UEG_1707.TIMESTAMP ANOMALY >> Unknown Alien Construct
Breath...Just breath. Keep...Breathing. This was all the comfort she could give herself as she ran through dirt, rocks, and and underbrush. Hunter was scared and she knew it so all she could do to ease her shaking nerves was to keep herself focused on simply running. The voice to her side barely hit her pounding eardrums but when she finally realized the marine running near her she found herself more at ease. Still, she couldn't shake the feeling in her gut.
"I'm not entirely sure 'bout that, Corporal. I-"
Any sound emanating from her voice ceased along with her hasty footsteps and finally she came to an immediate stop. Hunter's right hand rose to the side of her helmet where her com was located. A male voice, though fuzzy, began to make itself known through the com. Lance Corporal...ODST Medic...anyone...there. That was all she could make out. Quickly Hunter responded, her voice shaky and her breath hard in between words from her run.
"This is...Private Sullivan. Go ahead, Corporal."

Kio went back to the pod and grabbed the CAWS and realized that the shotgun was jammed. As he attempted to pull it out, he was met with a response. "Private, what's your location? I have yet to hear from the rest of my squad and would love a few friends to cover my a**." As he said the word 'a**' he gave the gun a hard pull, releasing it from the bent frame of the pod. Now, with the opportunity to himself, he walked over to the brutish creature that had been killed by the pod door. Strong b*****d, wasn't it? It's neck was twisted backwards and the look of what Kio believed was surprise was forever frozen onto it's face. It looked like an ape. That was the best way to describe it. He kicked it a few times. Paypack for it scaring the s**t out of him and waited for the response.

"Not quite sure 'bout that one, Corporal. Ughhh...Seems to be just a bunch of trees, rocks, and mud from where I'm standin'."
In all honesty Hunter really wasn't sure where the hell she was. She had headed away from her squad only a little while ago to scout out the area for hostile units or other marines, but with no avail. It was when the Sunrise came crashing down towards the construct she'd gotten all panicky, practically forgetting why she was standing there and where she had just come from. Looking at what was around her didn't help in the slightest; it only furthered her confusion. Placing her hand back up to her helmet, Hunter swallowed the nerve-wracking saliva that had formed in her mouth and bit her bottom lip anxiously for what she was about to do.
"How 'bout you, Corporal? If you can give me some kind of location I'll see if I can't come 'n' pick you up."
When it came to finding certain places she wasn't completely clueless. But then why was sweat forming on her face? Why did her teeth tighten against her bottom lip when she stopped talking? What was with the shaky hands and knee caps? Well, Hunter wasn't the most courageous bean in the pot and going out on her own to search for a lost ODST member scared the crap outta her, but it was something she needed to do. Even if her fear overcame her she would somehow manage to pull herself together. She had to...That was the whole reason why she was here; to prove something to her dad and to herself. Suddenly she felt her blood run warm through her veins and a spark of adrenaline slap her square in the face. It was reassurance to her, in a way, and, for however long it would last, Hunter truly felt like a U.N.S.C marine.

Kio sighed slightly, then walked over to his pod. "Hold on a second, keep transmitting data over your com." He pried his seat out of the holder to reveal the power source of the HEV. Next to it was a small round box, which he carefully removed. He took the wires and attached them to his suit, which then began to power it. It was a comm buoy. Quickly, he used to the machine to lock onto his own signal, then the signal coming from the unknown location. Using the third transmission, he managed to triangulate the location of the marine.
"Private Sullivan, you're about half a mile to my east." He told her. Hey, ODST's were trained to survive behind enemy lines for weeks, this was a cake walk compared to some of his other techniques.

Hunter sighed with relief. The ODST wasn't too far out so if she did encounter hostile forces she wouldn't be stranded with no way out; her squad was only a few minutes away from her current location.
"Sit tight, Corporal. I'll be there in a jiffy."
Lucky for her the adrenaline rush was still workin' in her stomach. It would be another few minutes before Hunter realized just exactly what she was doing and started to panic again. You can't really blame her, though, for the way she is. Hunter wasn't raised in a very stable environment and she rarely ever spoke with her parents, especially her dad, which, in all honesty, was quite sad because she lived with the old fart. But this wasn't a time for reminiscing over her life story; she needed to focus on following the coordinates and picking up the stranded Corporal.
Her right arm was swung back behind her, her small hand grabbing hold of the M90A-CAWS Shotgun strapped against her upper back. Hunter brought the weapon to the front of her, gripping the middle of it with her left hand to support the unexpected weight of the weapon. Standing in front of the thick bushel of forest, leading to a place unknown, sent a cold tingle down her spine and for a moment everything grew quiet. The quiet gave her a feeling of uncertainty and, gazing up at the large, uninviting trees, Hunter felt a shadow of doubt hover over her. A warm breeze passed by her face, almost pulling Hunter in between the vast darkness. Raising her chin up, Hunter breathed in the warm air and, after a few moments of fighting back at her cemented feet, she picked her legs up and trudged along through the mud and grass.

"Roger." Kio responded, then magnetically attached the CAWS to his back. In his hands was an M7. He decided he should simply wait for the Marine to arrive, since the HEV could still be transmitting a beacon that might save them... Or kill them. Depends on who was reading the signal..
You know, maybe staying near the HEV wasn't such a good idea. "Marine, I'm moving in to meet you, make sure you stay as straight as you can." He sent, then jumped into the woods.

:/{ Hand of Perdition, Special Operations Officer; Zhar Vak 'Kuvamee :/{ Zealous Light; Dropship :/{ Enroute to Structure Surface
The cramped phantom was the least of the SpecOps team's annoyances while the Prophet of Disdain's last message played through their minds over and over.
'See to it that the humans do not live long enough to defile this holy relic. Once already this cycle a Fleet Master has failed to protect a relic, to have the Sangheili fail the Hierarchs twice in a single cycle is bordering heresy. Perhaps we have overestimated the Sagheili's worth to the Council...'
In the artificial light stemming from the plasma duct overhead, Zhar could be seen mulling over his orders with a bit of contempt and hate. Never before had he shown his emotions to his team, but the ideals he had for so long upheld and protected were slowly unraveling. Right before his very eyes, the Prophets cast his people aside like common Unngoys. Still determined to try to hold together the fragile balance the Hierarchs and all of the Sangheili held, he kept the message between the three of them and ordered no one know that the Prophets were losing faith in the Sangheili.
"Change of plans; we move now. The Hierarchs cannot afford another loss to these wretched lower-lifeforms. Kill any human you see, but spare only officers and the leader. We need information, by now they must have hidden whatever caches they have. This is our primary target. Find their databases, and have the last human worlds wiped from existence." Zhar said, confidence returning to his voice although every other warrior on that vessel paid no attention to him or his team whatsoever. No one knew who he was, and no one cared about his mission; he knew. The light from the structure pierced the interior of the phantom with a flash that dazed a few Uungoy as the phantom came to a hover and opened its belly to drop the Covenant soldiers onto the surface.
Waiting nearly a full minute after the common Sangheili and Uungoy departed to try to overrun the humans- a futile effort though honorable to face death so fearlessly -Zhar and his team exited the phantom just before it began to move off into the distance to gain altitude and pick up another group of Sangheili to join the battle. Not bothering to turn to watch the ship ascend through the artificial atmosphere, he quickly found cover behind a flat slab of stone, protruding out of the ground at a sharp angle. His team had already disappeared into the environment. SpecOps training gave his team an advantage, more so than simply being equipped with active camouflage. Without even activating his camouflage, he could remain hidden for long enough to get what he needed and complete his mission. "You have your orders, split up and find any survivors." With no need to wait around for approval or acknowledgement, he turned from his position and moved deeper into the thickly forested area. It was going to be a long day.

::: Corporal Formoe, Cole T. ::: UNSC Iron Sunrise ::: Enroute to Regroup.
Running through the woods proved easier said than done. On more than one occasion, Corporal Formoe saw glimpses of what looked like a metallic tunnel cut into the very ground itself. He was not totally surprised since they had just landed on a massive structure that seemed to be some sort of space station. Just as his mind was wrapping around the mere existence of the station, he heard Whitney speak up, but looking ahead saw not a single soul. Who was she talking to, and where was she even going? Miles of forest lay before them, but when the Sunrise came crashing down, he fell to one knee and kept himself aloft by grasping a small tree tightly. Seeing that Whitney had fallen must have jarred her more than she realized. They were still alone in the forest, and he knew that the First Sergeant landed somewhere in an oceanic environment, from the readout inside the SOEIV.
Just then, a signal came across Formoe's radio. His helmet buzzed with static for a second then a faint voice, with a horrible echo, pierced the silence, '...to meet you...sure you stay...you can...'. The choppy message was nothing to go by and it would have been impossible to pinpoint the person's location, had another ODST not just run past them, not ten meters due west of their location. The little tag above the ODSTs helmet marked him as LNGD; their medic. "Corporal! Medic!" The second word echoed much louder than the first, because saying one's rank could have gotten ten people's attention, but to hear medic yelled in a crowd narrowed the search drastically. On his feet again, he could only hope that Kio had heard him. For the last twenty minutes, he and Whitney had been running to find Mitchell and the others, but with no luck so far, he was relieved to see that they had at least been running far enough to pass another SOEIV somewhere.

Kio stopped in his tracks. Had he just heard what he thought he'd heard? "Medic over here!" He yelled, responding to the yell. He then opened his com. "Private, I just-" As he was talking, he past a tree and saw the Marine running towards him. "Follow me, I got a call for a medic!" He told her, then began running in the direction he heard the call.

Private Sullivan, Wren 'Hunter' > ERR.UEG_1707.TIMESTAMP ANOMALY >> Unknown Alien Construct; FOREST
Her first steps into the forest were perhaps the most agonizing. The adrenaline rush only moments earlier had almost completely worn off the battle-hardened shell shielding her from the danger of her current situation and Hunter felt her heart rate increase with each step she took. Mud squished itself beneath the soles of her combat boots as she marched through the damp thickets with nothing but the wind and her shadow to provide her with any possible comfort. The forest itself glared down at the five foot, four inches of anxiety and terror that walked amongst its outreaching branches. Hunter's mouth grew dry. The shotgun in between her hands began to shake as her hands rattled against it. She wasn't far in to the forest...She could turn back right now if she wanted to.
As Hunter began to contemplate the idea she moved into a jog; she couldn't just walk out. Her blood slowly began to turn warm once again, allowing the feeling to come back into her fear-stricken limbs and, without thinking, pushed Hunter into a fast sprint. Nearing a slight clearing in the forest she began to hear a familiar voice. Hunter followed in quick pursuit, the shot gun at her front, realizing who's voice it was that pierced her ears. It wasn't long before she turned a corner, charging through bushes and twigs, that Hunter found her terror completely washed away. The ODST Corporal whom she had spoken to had spotted her and, after calling out something that she could just barely make out, started running off in another direction.
Quick to catch up with another human being for a while, Hunter increased her speed until she came up alongside the Corporal, a half-smile forming on her lips as she looked up at him.
"Found you."

Kio's VISR became clear, revealing his face to the Marine. "Indeed you did." He said with a smile. The VISR once more became opaque. The action of revealing his face had hopefully helped to calm the Marine, as his HUD had indicated heightened BPI and BPM. After jogging a few more minutes, he stopped. He hadn't been able to see the one who'd called out 'Medic' but was hoping that he was still in the area, and alive for that matter.
"I heard someone call Medic." He explained to his new found companion. "I don't see them anywhere, so I suggest we sit tight for a few minutes. Maybe we'll pick something up." He held his M7 at the ready position, glancing at the trees around him. Suddenly, something hit him. He gently touched the bark and examined the tree. "What the ********> He asked himself, in complete shock. Why hadn't anyone noticed this? "These are pine trees!" He said, mostly to himself as he was still beyond surprised.

Stopping as soon as her companion had, Hunter set her right hand, her free hand, against the trunk of a nearby tree as she regained her breath. It wasn't as though the marine was completely out of shape, although she clearly wasn't as fit as her comrades, but the anxiety she had experienced earlier had increased her heart rate as the two of them ran through the forest, in search of where the voice had come from. Now, after the warm, friendly face of the ODST revealed to her, Hunter did not feel so uncomfortable. She felt as though the stress weighing her down was suddenly lifted off of her by some invisible force, but she was still human and needed to catch her breath.
It wasn't until she heard the faint voice of her comrade elevate from the peaceful quiet of the forest. Unsure of its significance, Hunter's head tilted upwards towards the tree in which she was standing against. Her green eyes took inventory of the subject and after a few moments of questioning how it was important she noticed something; this was an alien construct and the tree she was leaning against was a pine tree. The marine looked up at the tree in all its majesty then averted her eyes in realization to her companion.

Kio watched as she examined the tree as well, and saw the realization strike her face. "What's a Terran tree doing on a construct billions of miles away from Earth?" He said, voicing the question that was undoubtably bouncing in their heads. He then shook his head. "Ah, no time for that now." He used his VISR to take a picture of the tree and store it in his memory space. Suddenly, he went rigid, and went straight down to the ground, pulling her with him. He held up 4 fingers and pointed. Three grunts and one of the new ape-like Covenant were moving through the forrest ahead of them.

Private Sullivan, Wren 'Hunter' > ERR.UEG_1707.TIMESTAMP ANOMALY >> Unknown Alien Construct; FOREST
Not hearing his voice, or at least not paying attention to what he had said at first about the trees, Hunter continued to examine the bark in awe. Just as she ran her right hand against the coarse bark she found herself suddenly being pulled low to the ground. There she gave the ODST a questioning look, but then she noticed something; hostile forces trudging along through the forest ahead of them. Hunter had seen grunts before, but the large, ape-like creature was foreign to her eyes. It was clad in heavy armor and made a growling sound as it lifted its head to the sky, sniffing the air. The lump in her throat returned. Hunter could feel her heart rate fly up and once again she felt the anxiety, the panic, and the fear swelling in her belly.
Oh, how she would have loved to turn around and run, but she knew she couldn't. Hunter's fingers tightened against the dirt and grass as she strained her eyes to see the group better. Her breathing increased, then decreased, then it increased again. It was a rabid up and down circus for her internal body functions and it wasn't until she looked back up at her ODST companion that she began to calm herself down. Even if it came down to an encounter, Hunter knew that, with the ODST with her, they should be able to take the grunts out, the ape-like creature, though, being more difficult. What Hunter really needed to realize was that she was safe with her companion and there was no need for the panic, but she still couldn't fully shake the tense feelings.
