My dad's (old yellowed) copies of The Hobbit and LOTR are pre movie too, yet still divided into 4 books (counting the hobbit.) I read them in high school and college, and I also had a hard time getting through the Two Towers. Too much war/battle talk. I want to re-read them all again now that I've seen the movies though. I can picture everything better, so I'm thinking that will make it easier to get through.

I finished Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern today (have had tons of time to read while here!) and as a quick review.. I dragged myself through it and couldn't wait for it to be over. It didn't hold my attention like the first three Pern books I read, wasn't really interesting, and I could summarize the plot in a sentence (of course I won't!)

I re-started The Hobbit today, and also brought the LOTR trilogy with me (so as not to split them up.) The pages are yellowed, the paperback covers of some of them quite tattered, and I'm somewhat surprised to see the books are older than Jason and myself! This copy of The Hobbit, originally written in 1937, was printed in 1973. And the LOTR trilogy is 3 separate books slid into a faded (and dusty) box set. I didn't even know there were copies of the whole thing as ONE book until Jelly said!

Wheee, I've finally had some time to read lately whee I just finished Digital Fortress by Dan Brown, which I really liked. I know a lot of people rant about this book because it's unrealistic, but I don't really know enough about technology to get annoyed by that. Also, the main reason I like Dan Brown is because of his writing style, and not so much the content. Now I'm reading Deception Point (also Dan Brown), which was finally released here this week. I'm trying to take it slow this time, so that the wait for his next book won't be that long xd

oh *heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee* I have Digital Fortress, Angels & Demons waiting for me to read and Deception Point on the way. One of my friends gave me da Vinci Code in audio (I wouldn't have picked it up otherwise) and fell in love with the info dump (truthfully, the end disapointed me and I felt it was rushed) so I'm going to try his other books.

My current favorite author(s) are still Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams for their humor though and I remain firmly planted in the fantasy/sci fi genre *nodnod*

I seem to remember more about Angels & Demons than about the Da Vinci Code, maybe because of the order in which I read them. I should really re-read the Da Vinci Code before the movie comes out. When is that due out anyway? Anybody know?

*follows you around and pounces on you* Dude, I could wander here all night I think razz

Movie is out May 18th, or somewhere there abouts mrgreen I'm visiting with CyberWarlock then (have tickets for Depche Mod in Toronto) and have demanded that he goes since he refuses to read the book because of all the hype. *grins* I actually didn't enjoy the book as much as I enjoyed the audio and probably wouldn't have picked it up if somebody didn't lend me their mp3s biggrin

Hehe! Well I would have been here more last night but our power went out for more than an hour, so I read Harry Potter 3 (my first re-read of any of them) until it was too dark to see. Then the power came back on for like 10 minutes and then went out again for more than 2 hours! We got ready for bed by candlelight, and then while we were sleeping everything (lights, tv, fish tank, fridge) all came back on and woke me up. Jason went down and parked our cars outside the garage in case the power went out again so at least we could leave this morning! Now I'm headed for Jade's vaccination appointment! Then I'll catch up with your intro post, etc. 4laugh

I just got back from watching the Da Vinci Code, and I have to say I'm disappointed sad There are a lot of differences between the book and the movie, and certain parts weren't in the book at all. Luckily it's been quite a while since I read the book so I didn't remember all the details, but my sister just read it a month ago and she was obsessing over all the differences.

I think there's one big flaw in this movie; those who read the book will get annoyed with all the "errors", and for those who didn't read it I would imagine some parts are more or less confusing or seem pointless. But that's just my opinion wink

we're going to see it Sunday. I was going to re-read the book but stopped myself cuz I had finished hitchhiker's guide like that day before we saw the movie and was so disappointed in things. I didn't want to be that way again. It's been about a year and a half since I read Davinci code so I shouldn't be too obsessive. Kevin was going to read it before the movie, but decided against it as well so he could just enjoy the movie. Plus he has me to explain things to him (like in HP movies lol)

I am re-reading Angels and Demons tho....and glad to hear Digital Fortress was good! I saw it at a local discount bookstore and contemplated it (it was around $3) but was afraid I would be disappointed since the subject matter isn't centered around the church and religion (i'm a nut about things with religious central themes...books and movies...my favorite ones are stuff like The omen and Stigmata etc...)

I think you should watch all 3 movies anyway. To many people (including me), they're the best movies ever made. And I've read the books. It made perfect sense to Jason who hasn't read the books. If you go in having a prejudgment, it might make it harder to enjoy for what it is though. Just remember, *every* movie made after a book has to leave stuff out, or change stuff in order for it to fit, but they can still be excellent movies.
