Overlord of Night- Shadow

PostPosted: Fri Aug 21, 2009 11:26 am

Tura waited until they were fully concealed to speak, and then, of course, the woman had questions of him. Why not? He might as well answer this; there wasn't much need not to. "Well, since you seem to not be understanding my clues, I may as well spell it out for you. There is a lesson to be taught to the Watch, and the members of FEF. Quite obviously, I'm not going to tell you; it wouldn't mean anything if you can't figure it out yourself. If you haven't realized it by the seventh twilight, however, the game will come to its final stage, and all will be revealed. I'd rather like that outcome; you would prefer to end it sooner. However, the third and fourth twilights have just fallen; there are only three left. You haven't much time."

He paused for a moment, considering. "But there are... other reasons. Each of these persons deserves to die; I am serving justice onto them. And in the end, these deaths will create a new life, you see. The ends justify the means, no matter how drastic." The knife tapped against the top of Isadora's breastplate idly, as Tura thought of what he had been going to say.

"However, you've gotten me off topic, milady. You are involved because of a direct request by a certain bishop - you know, or should I say knew, this man very well. To be precise, you are one of an honored group of three to see the very end of these proceedings. The second has already been informed by a certain... morph friend of mine, and the third already knows. You are to come with the Watch when they receive the final clue; you will be in no danger, again due to his request. And when the proceedings are finished; all three of you will be able to see him again. Take that as you will."

Tura paused for a moment; he wasn't quite done, but he also wasn't entirely sure how to continue. "Mmm... tell the young woman that her father will be waiting to see her again in three days. It is ESSENTIAL that she know this. As for you... to tell you the truth, you were never actually in any danger, as one of the terms of my contract was that I was forbidden to kill you. I see no harm in releasing that information now." For he was already moving, off the horse and back down the alley away from her. It was a small alley; he doubted her horse could turn, and she would have to go out the other end. "The crime scene isn't far, you can still catch this one. But, don't forget what I've said~" And he was gone, vanishing into the night without another word.

At the crime scene, there was one more detail; just above the victim's head, a note had been tacked to the wall. Obviously this was another clue...

"A lesson to be taught to the Watch and my guild?" Isadora repeated. "I don't understand why we need to be taught, but we have not committed anything wrong. If you have something against us, then do something to us. These people you've killed had no relations with us. You have no right to kill these innocences if your business is with us."

This was madness. All these crimes he committed were just to teach them a lesson. But to what lesson did they need to learn? She knew that the Watch and her guild had done nothing wrong. They were there to protect Learania from enemies. It was their job to bring peace and order to this country. And now this mad man was to be their judge for their actions?

This made the paladin disliking him even more. As much as she wanted to draw her blade, her life was hanging in his hand. One false move and she would become his next victim. He must be stopped right away. Isadora was with him right now, despite the difficult situation she was in. If she could stop him right now, they didn't need to deal with the clues he left behind and the killing would be stopped. So far, four people had already died. Only three people were left and needed their protection. But who were these three people? She wouldn't let the innoncences be killed due to his insanity. However, the assassin counteracted her plead about the people.

"You're bringing justice onto them for what these people do?" Isadora questioned. So now this assassin was trying to become a vigilante? This really boiled her. How dared he try to bring justice onto these people instead of letting the Watch and the guild do it for him? This was not how she was taught of being a knight. "If these people did wrong, you should report it to us instead of serving your so-called justice upon them. We have our own method of serving order and bringing justice upon those who did wrong. You can't force these matter into your hands!"

A cold chill ran down her spine as Tura tapped his knife against her breastplate, informing her about why he brought death to them. Despite how Tura informed her had become somewhat sense without giving out his motives, she couldn't help it that it had become more madness than it was before. The victims' deaths would create new life? Was that why some of the organs were taken from these people? Was creating a new life Tura's true motive?

She knew that life could be brought back, but only as morphs. After all, she had battled against them. But it couldn't be morphs. If it was morphs, Tura wouldn't need those organs but a Druid or a higher level of magic user. Why bother taking the organs out? If it was a true being with no physical appearance of a morph, it would be impossible. Only a higher spirit such as Brimimond or a god like Loki would do that. Was there someone with a high level of power he was working with?

Before she could ask who was he working with, Tura answered one of her previous questions. The information shook Isadora with denial. Her involvement with this crime was from a certain bishop she knew? The paladin knew it wouldn't be Rhys. Rhys would never dare have people killed, whether they were good or evil. Besides Rhys, the only Bishop who was a male that she knew was Father Renault. But it couldn't be. Father Renault was killed. She, Amelia, and the guild saw him plunged into his death by Loki. It couldn't be. It couldn't.

Isadora let go of the reins and placed her hands onto Tuomas' back, trying to support her. The color of her face paled as her eyes shown disbelief. "No.... It can't be. He's dead. I saw it with my own eyes. He can't.... No. You're lying!!"

Isadora turned her head around. The knife glazed against her neck. A small ounce of blood oozed out from the cut. She would wince in pain, but her mind wasn't on the pain. It was the concern of Father Renault that Tura had informed her.

Anger flashed before her eyes as she stared at the assassin. "Father Renault would never do that! The Renault I knew would never dare allowed these heinous crimes in his favor! He would rather find suitable punishments to those who commit petty crimes than death! In fact, he would rather die than adding more deaths into his sins by contracting you! How dare you committing these crimes! How dare you trying to threaten the Watch and my guild! How dare you trying to bring Amelia and I into your madness game! And how DARE you using Father Renault in front of me!! This ends NOW!!!"

Isadora drew her sword out and tried to stab Tura. However, the assassin was too quick for her again. Tura moved backward and was moving in the direction from where they came. The paladin was unable to turn her horse around. The alley was too narrow for Tuomas. She later heard him informing her that she could still catch up to the crime scene. Hatred still boiled inside her as she jumped off her horse.

The flux with the crime scene. She had the assassin in her sight right now. But before she could catch up to him, he had already disappeared. Isadora bit her lips.

Within seconds, there was a scream in the once silent city. However, unlike the scream from before, it wasn't the scream of fear. It was a scream of anguish.

Amelia made a shooing motion towards a few lingering people. There were still too many thickly grouped for her to gauge if any of them had actually seen the crime. The idea flashed through her thoughts to try shouting again for any witnesses, but she dismissed it. If they hadn't answered her already, perhaps no one had seen it. It was entirely possible no one arrived until after it had been finished... Amelia resisted the urge to glance back at the corpse.

She paused in tightening her gloves as she heard Leon's voice somewhere over her head; he was still astride Anri's back. She tilted her eyes up to his level, offering back a little smile, shaky and unsure. "Yeah, I... you were going much faster than me. I started earlier, but... I'm not on a horse."

Amelia brushed her hair off of her face. She hesitated at the question, unsure of how to answer. She didn't quite know if she really had a hang of this job, not now that so many people were dying and they were still so far from actually keeping a hold of Tura. She did, however, speak when Leon continued, sending a shiver of fear down her spine.

"They all be so quick, 'Melia... either they 'ad it planned since f'ever, or he ain't human... this 'un."

Amelia slowly turned her body back to the corpse. She managed to look at the body again, actually absorb details this time. The heart was gone. The limbs had been amputated and nailed to where they would look like they were attached, if it wasn't for the gap inbetween his arms and his shoulders or his legs and his pelvic bone. She could see the intestines starting to spill out, and as she focused her eyes on the man's face to ignore that gruesome sight, she noticed the small note above his head.

"...Another clue," Amelia whispered. She moved slowly, as if walking through water; she found an empty wooden crate nearby and stood it near the man's ankles. She stepped on top, stood very still for a moment (to make sure it wouldn't buckle under the combined weight of herself and her armor), then reached up and plucked the note off of the nail. Amelia half-fell, half-stepped off of the crate and hurried back to Leon, her face tinged green. The smell of blood was thick, enough to make her gag reflex start jumping.

After a full minute of silence on her part, the note clutched tightly in her hands, her spine relaxed. Amelia's face was back to a normal color as she slowly unfolded the note, green eyes focused on the paper, albeit slightly distant, like they also saw something else.

Leon dismounted, wanting to a get a closer view of the note that Amelia had removed from the corpse that was literally left hanging. It was another clue, or rather, another riddle. Upon seeing the note, the young man's brows furrowed into that frustrated scowl usually only seen when he'd been personally insulted by someone right in front of his face.

It almost was like that, like someone was taunting him, mocking him, doing the one thing that would set him off more than anything by just stepping on his honor like it was a road to be walked on. "Now wha's it say?!" Leon didn't mean for his tone to be so harsh, but the lack of sleep had now made him cranky, and the fact that Tura was clearly just toying with even the best of the Watch was really wearing on his nerves.

Where ever I wander, where ever I roam,
There's only one place I'll ever call 'home'

The Magic Swordman Master Lord, Roy

User Image

Roy saw a familiar face pass by the opening. Well, sword was now out of the question. What did he have on him...? He check his pockets. Some loose change, gum, and...panties from earlier.

He armed the panties.

Finger in the elastic band and stretched back a little (lace seemed to work unusually well for this, though only so much), the panties were prepared. The figure was now in the open.

It was Mel.

He flung the panties at the noblewoman's face to distract her, then charged forward, wanting to pin her against the wall so that she wouldn't try to attack him. He heard the rumors about her. She was a violent one, even if she was a pyro like him.

Melethia saw the panties fly onto her face. By the time she got them off, Roy a few seconds later pinned her to a wall. She struggled to get loose.

"Roy let me go!" She yelled. She growled after she said that. She didn't like being pinned to a wall.

There were two notes, of course. This was obvious at first glance. But was it really true? The notes held by both Amelia and Jin would say completely different things, true. But to understand one, the person holding it would have to have the other. For, the way the notes were written was this:

The one Jin held read:

the seven begun
three are left
for the time is closer
the winner determined
these people were not
you should understand
life after death shall be
in the end, nothing
you see, this is
to bring back one

And the one held by Amelia read:

four have been taken
and now you watch
this game will end
yet more you have sinned
what seeming they had
they had truly no light
given to one
but that one exists
my job to do
most important to you

Oddly, there was nothing additional written on these notes. It was as if the writer wanted them to pay more attention to his writing this time, and the additional pieces had been deemed too distracting.

Amelia stared blankly at the note. It didn't seem to make sense; had he started to write a sentence and then left off part of it before going onto the next sentence? She couldn't understand what he was getting it. We've all done something wrong, apparently, and four people have died... but... what does he mean? Amelia flipped over the note. Nothing. She looked back at the words and stared at them.

"My job..." And "most important to you," what do those mean? He has to do this? And why? And what does he mean "most important to you?" Stopping these killings...?

Amelia looked up at Leon. She felt very tired now; perhaps not physically tired, although she did feel like a rest would be nice after all that running, but emotionally tired. Drained. She couldn't take much more of this serial murderer business. It was sucking all the spirit out of her. "Do you... understand any of this?" She asked. She held up the note a little bit higher, towards his face.

"Go n' take it doon."

"What?"

"Th're's 'nother note o'er yonder, ain't there? Go."

"...Ahh."

Jin ran off to deliver the note to the crime scene. Ghis stared after him.

Leon was asked if he understood the riddle behind it. "Nah, not in th' least, 'Melia. I ain't good wi' riddles none. Fightin' is wha' I'm good at... I been itchin' for a chance t' stick m' axe in 'im for all this, jus' once..."

Normally, he wouldn't confess those feelings. Normally, he wouldn't have them at all. Now though, he was toyed with more than once. He was mad a fool of in front of the whole of Eyris, and everyone knew the rumors that would spread.

'Leon's incompetent, what's that fool doing being a Lieutenant, the Watch is as ineffective as ever, etc.'

Oh, how it boiled his blood to think about it! Maybe it was best he dropped the subject from his mind before he exploded.

And that he did... for he noticed a shadow (which he had no idea knowing was actually Jin), and he pointed his axe, which he'd just barely noticed was still in his grip towards where the priest/assassin was hiding. "Oh, ya better not be who I think ya are, or yer in for a world o' hurt!"

Amelia nodded slowly. She started to look around to see if any normal citizens were left before Leon was shouting to the side. Amelia whirled around, hand gripped on the note, but instead of seeing an enemy, she saw Jin.

"Jin...! Snuck up on me!" she breathed out in relief. The familiar face was enough to lighten her mood, and she walked over to him with a smile. The sight of the note was enough to make her smile crack just a little, but she gently took it out of his hand to look at it. She studied his note in her left hand, then glanced at the one she had grabbed, held in her right hand.

"...Hey, wait," she murmured. Amelia held the notes next to each other; like this, they formed coherent sentences. "Hey, look at this...! They match each other!"

Amelia quietly read aloud the full sentences for Jin and Leon.

"the seven begun four have been taken
Three are left and now you watch
for the time is closer this game will end
the winner determined yet more you have sinned
these people were not what seeming they had

Amelia slowly looked over to Jin, then at Leon, then back at the notes. Gears were moving slowly as she tried to determine what he meant, exactly. "...You can't bring back the dead... can you?" she murmured. "And who's he bringing back...? Who is 'one most important to you'? If we knew who he was referring to for that 'you,' then... maybe we could know..."

Leon put the axe away. He was just starting to tell himself not to get angry, and yet he pulls a weapon on an ally? He must not have looked very trustworthy at all just now.

That subject was pushed aside though as he noticed the notes going together and forming more sentences. "Most 'mportant to us? All 'o us?" he wondered as he stared at it in fascination. "An' th' part 'bout them havin' no light... they ain't good people then? More crim'nals? Ha! Knew it. A crazed vig'lante that thinks 'e can play Goddess."

As Amelia and the others were trying to decipher the clue, Isadora entered the crime scene, feeling light headed. It had taken her a while to get to the crime scene due to the narrow alley she had entered earlier. It wasn't easy to get Tuomas out of the narrow passage backward.

While her hand was holding the reins, her other hand was placed over her neck to stop the bleeding. She had forgotten to bring the elixer, but she didn't know she would need it. Isadora cursed silently for her carelessness. She had let out her emotion to receive this wound. She shouldn't have let her emotions got the best of her. It was a mistake to cloud the knight's judgment and calm emotion when dealing with the enemy. The next time she met Tura, Isadora swore that she would attack him first and ask questions later. She would not let Tura escape again.

When she approached the group, Isadora spoke. Her voice somehow became soft and shallow. "The clue. What does it say?"

She had to know what did the note say. She had to figure out the clue as fast as possible. Isadora couldn't let Tura kill more people, whether they deserved to die or not. It was the guild and the Watch's job to bring the order and peace; not the crazed assassin. In addition, she had to alert the Watch what Tura had told her, especially Amelia.

Amelia. What would she think if she found out that Father Renault was somehow behind this? Isadora didn't want to believe that the bishop she knew was part of this crazed game. It couldn't be Father Renault. She wanted to believe that it was someone else and not him. Why would Father Renault want to do this? But if what Tura spoke was true and somehow Renault was alive, would that mean she had to bring justice on him for the crimes that took place? It was bad enough for her and Amelia of losing Renault to Loki from the last battle. But to lose him again for the crimes that were committed would be even worse. The paladin was unsure if Amelia would be able to handle of losing Renault again.

Isadora waited to hear the clue. However, she didn't get the chance to hear it. Her vision somehow became a blur. Suddenly, darkness loomed over her. She also felt that there was nothing around her. It was as if she was in space, surrounding in darkness.

Tuomas let out a neigh as he felt his owner fell out of her seat, collapsing onto the cobblestone street.

Leon was about to greet Isadora the proper way when all of the sudden...

THUD.

There she went right off Tuomas, smack into the cobblestones. Concern swept through the Lieutenant now, as he dismounted, kneeling at the side of a fellow member of cavalry and lifting her head above the ground with one arm. "Lady Isadora!" he exclaimed. "Are ya okay, Lady? Wake up!" He noticed the cut on her neck, thanking the Hero and his Blessed Blade that he'd brought some Vulneraries. Hopefully the slight nudge he gave her would awaken the fallen dame knight.

Mel had asked him to let her go. He would, but then he noticed that she had armed herself with an Elfire tome. Not a good idea to leave her with that, even if it was fire.

"What's the matter? Too close for you? I thought you liked the whole touchy-feely thing." he asked with a laugh, smirking as he wrenched the Elfire out of her hands.

The tome was then tossed behind him as he released her slowly before backing away a little, though standing between her and the tome, and yet close enough to be able to pin her against the wall again if she tried anything funny.

"Why did you follow me?" he asked seriously, looking at her.
