Honestly, Band Camp was really fun when you are surrounded by a bunch of your Band Friends. It's really not even that hot, but i guess if you have marching band in the dead beating hot, and you have practice every Monday from 1-5, Which it's not that bad, other than sweating. I joined Marching Band when I was in 8th grade (i'm still in 8th grade) At first, Band Camp was HORRIBLE, but then it slowly started getting better, because I guess i learned how to march correctly, The only good part about this, is we barely played any music, and it's was in the morning time, and really wasnt that hot. But unfortenally, everyone knows in Marching Band you don't have music right in front of your face, you have to memorize it. Right? Of Corse. Well I struggled ALOT, when it came to memorizeing music. I tryed and tryed and tryed to memorize it but could never do it. Then I guess all the practiceing Wore off, because I memorized it, ut heres the bad part I only memorized 3-5 songs!!! I had 2 left, and we were about to be checked the next day to play them,So i tryed and tryed, staying up all night just to get it. Then when it all came downI memorize 4-5 songs. "99 red Balloons" "Kung Fu Fighting" "867-5309/Jenny" "Mickey" The Other you ask??? "Lanier County Fight Song I went to school the next day and played it to my band director after school, I had all of them correct, i got off lucky though, bc "Lanier County Fight Song" Didnt have to be played for another week. Well thats my story smile ) Oh, Did I learn it you ask? Well Yes Yes I did smile

Our band camp is a field right next to our school, but maybe once or twice we'll go up to the football field and practice. It usually starts in August sometime in there for about a week out of that month.
I enjoy going to band camp because everybody is just so much fun! We also do other things other than just the camp we'll go tubing down a river, and a scavenger hunt around the city, which is awesome too! It's just plain fun, and hard work.

My band camp is in our school parking lot. We start in aug and end in sep. then compitions and show at the football games start. We start 7am-2pm and then when we get close to school time we start 3pm-9pm and its hot and sticky, but totaly worth it smile I started band camp when i stared high school and i have been hooked ever since, i love it and now im comming up on my last years of high school i want to do this in college. I have made so many friends in band camp and the marching compitions, we one large family. I love it, when you don't have your school friends, you always know you have your band family. I have many band camp story's some are good and other our bad, but the one i remeber well the two i remeber is when i met my bestfriend, brittany: i was sent to backline because there where too many saxaphones and i was a freshman in highschool. Then i met her and we were bestfriends ever since and the other one is where one of my firends decided to spary his jacket with axe the light himslef on fire. I was so random but that is band for you. He put himself out but i just thought to myself, I cant belive you get so many people in on place and not expect it that to happen :0 lol. So i am proud to say: I AM A BAND NERD <3 and I LOVE IT!

I freaking love band camp heart ! We go up to a Jewish camp about an hour and a half from our school. The food there has to be koscher. I don't mind it having to be koscher, but it is the worst food ever. The Friday and Saturday before band camp, we have sectionals for a while. On Monday at 7:30, we leave for camp. Right when we get there we practice and then eat lunch. Though a normal day there goes like this; 7:30 Breakfeast 8:00 Marching 10:00 Sectionals 11:00 Free time! (canoeing heart !) 12:00 Lunch 12:30 Our state requires us to be off our feet for 30 minutes xD 1:00 Sectionals 2:00 Marching 4:00 Free time again =D ! 5:00 Dinner 5:30 Sectionls 6:30 Field marching untill whenever Later in the day we would have an activity, which was always real fun! I'd really suggest bringing sun screen; because I didn't xD . I got so burnt! Bug spray, is probably something you should bring, but I didn't, and didn't get bitten at all xD . WATER!!!!!!! The water at our camp has like a yellow-ish tint xD . Anyways, lots of people complain. I don't see why though; it's like a week to hang out with band friends =D .

Well since this is about band camps, I got a story, *WARNING: PLEASE DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME*. This took place before my freshmen year I was told this story by my upperclassmen my freshmen year. It was about the third day of band camp and the lunch of the day was ham and cheese sandwhiches from Hardees, for a drink they had chocolate milk. Well the drumline decided to finish the last of the crate of milk, about 25 cartons, though dumbly enough the band had to go back outside. Well, the band practice the feild show in the 75-85 degree weather, and I will leave you imagination to do the rest.

Just finished my last band camp. mrgreen ... emo
We get ice cream trucks to come on the fourth day. The seniors throw water balloons and shaving cream at everyone else after our final run through on the last day of band camp.
There's a talent showcase every day, and "mandatory fun." They're usually not fun. I'm gonna miss it. gonk

Reading your stories makes me wish we had band camp away from school. Ours takes place on our stadium, practice fields and baseball fields at our school. adn the band room. Its still fun, but I think it would be more enjoyable if we went somewhere cooler. I mean temp. Southern arizona+mid-late summer=if you are cooked by the end, you are one of the lucky ones. Its so hot. Like over 100 everyday and very little shade or clouds msot fo the time. Either that or its pouring rain and humid. This past band camp, it got so hot out that our principle came and told us to practice in our big new gym with brand new ac. Which was kinda nice, but we were doing stations, and as clarient sl I was in charge of one of them with the head dm. And of course, the director chose our group to be the only one still outside.

Really to tell you, my band camp takes place all over our high school campus. And Kavalnir, I understand you this pass summer was my last band camp, though I intend to visit the band afterwards. Though if it is my luck the band director might ask me to be the teacher for the Trumpets. Because, he allows his past students to return and be a teacher for the band students, only reason is because if the band member know the teacher they get along easier and more stuff gets done, sometimes.

Most band camps usually take place in the summer?! what. Mine was during a long weekend. :I
okay. so at my band camp, I found a guy who looks exactly like the guy from Aang the last airbender. Like the anime. Not that movie. //shudder We rehearse for a loooooooong time, and free time people usually sleep and stuff. :I We also were there with another school and they were the bitchiest school ever. I mean, we're there playing our instruments and they tell us to stfu. We also invited them to a concert and they just ran all over the stage and all of us wanted to just go up and tell them to gtfo. :I
It was fun though!<3

I've been marching college band for 2 years now with a band with about 350 members, 50 of them guard, 100 pit and drumline together. If you love marching band in high school, then you will LOVE it college. It keeps getting better! I marched baritone sax in high school and now I march alto in college. Most of my friends are in the marching band; that doesn't change when you go to college. The games are longer and more competitive, the audience is COLOSSAL, the shows are INCREDIBLE. I was the serious band geek in hs that couldn't stand people being band when they obviously didn't want to be there; they just brought us down. In college, everyone WANTS TO BE THERE! This is the big leagues, and I hope all of you continue band in college. The experiences, the people, the laughs, the cries, all of it...can only happen here. Even if you don't plan on pursuing a career in music, that shouldn't stop you. Over 90% of the band I'm in is made of non-music majors, and they love it. Music majors have to participate in marching band for two years, but I'm doing all four. Because it is a part of my life, and always will be.

Band camp for me is a love/hate relationship. XD
We don't go to an actual camp, we just practice at our school. 2 weeks, this past season July 12 - 23, Mon-Fri, 8am - 4pm. Then after that was a week off, then school on the 2nd of August. But this year, bc will start later since school starts later. It depends. smile I still have band camp tans from the past season. XD Honestly, I like them, since I used to be very pale until bc, the same with figure (bc does wonders!).
Our band camp schedule? - Mornings, 8 - 12, marching fundamentals and then later rehearsals. - 12 - 1 is lunch/free time. - 1 - 3, 3:30, or 4 is sectionals and/or full band musical rehearsals. - Whatever time we stopped rehearsal - 4:30 is marching again.
So yeah, pretty simple for us. When school starts, though (since we have a block system, and band is 4th block), we have marching rehearsals til the end of the class. We have afterschool practice on Monday (musical, and we keep having them til we are sure and awesome at our parts), and Tuesdays and Thursdays (marching fundamentals/rehearsals).
And that's how we do it at OCCHS. biggrin

I have an interesting way to repel bugs at band camp, or when you are outdoors in general. Instead of using bug spray, use dryer sheets. There is something in the sheets that bugs do not like. I tried this, and I barely got any mosquito bites during my whole week at cam, and we were in an actual camp on a lake and a swamp next to the marching field, so it was bug central. Those who used bug spray had more bug bites than me.

At LHS, we had band camp at an actual camp for one week in August. I always loved band camp, especially my Junior and Senior years. My Sophomore year was very interesting, and I do not remember much about my freshman year. Our camp schedule went a bit like this (I cannot remember the exact times):
7:30-8:10 Breakfast 8:30-11:45 Marching rehearsal 12:00-12:40 Lunch 12:40-1:40 Nap time 2:00-3:00 Music rehearsal 3:00-5:00 Free time 5:00-5:40 Dinner 6:00-9:00 Marching rehearsal After 9:00 we would have some evening activity. On the first night it was movie night and ice cream where we would watch videos that some sections made. Then we would have a BINGO night, Dance night, In- Cabin Night, and then Bonfire on Thursday evening. Bonfire was always a big deal. Thursday morning was Toga day for Seniors. Seniors would use a bedsheet to make a Toga and wear it to breakfast. At Dinner it was Senior Dinner and they would make a special meal based from what the seniors voted on. We would get dressed up and the dinner table would be nicely decorated. It was a lot of fun. Then the seniors would make speeches if they wanted to. I gave one and started crying becuase it was such an emotional moment.
What made my Sophomore year very hard to forget is that the whole week was bombarded with a lot of thunderstorms. On our last night, we had a severe storm sweep through bringing with it tornado watches and warnings. We were in a warning at the camp. We had bonfire indoors (no real fire was lit, but we gathered around a makeshift fake one). During the bonfire, the camp lost power for the entire night! I remember walking back to my cabin and seeing lightening streak across the sky. It was awesome! lol
