"Actually, that tome does look rather interesting. Almost as interesting as Chizakura, but I highly doubt I'll be getting the chance to take a look at that tome any time soon." The sparks ceased as he flipped the book in his opposite hand shut, and he wandered over to the tome and picked it up. "Antaram, hm? It's Light magic, so unfortunately I cannot use it. But it will make rather interesting study, nonetheless." He pocketed the tome.

"Now, I'm not entirely sure what your plans are with the young lady here, but...do make sure this little flower doesn't come to harm." He walked over to the two together, and he laid a simple kiss on her cheek. "She's much too beautiful for that," he said, his blue eyes gazing into hers.

"Now," he said, backing off, "I have what I want. I do hope I'll be seeing you again, Jyoti. Less so, in your case, young man."

Anri wandered deeper into the forest. This was the way back to the campsite, where it was safe, wasn't it? The steed remembered his rider rushing him through these woods.

The war horse had to protect his rider, and he knew from many battles that it wasn't safe back there. He understood what that drink of elixir, and even Leon's tossing of it meant. No more healing. His companion could be seriously hurt if he didn't help him escape. The brown steed never stopped running until the sounds of war were no more in his ears. Of course, Anri had no map. There was no telling where he and Leon ended up, only that they were safe for the moment.

Sue hadn't known what to make of the last few seconds. Why wasn't Misura coming to save Jyoti? Oh yeah, she was fighting with the Fire Dragon! Of course! How could the nomad forget?

And Anri just took off like she wanted him to. That was a good thing too... Sue didn't want an unconscious knight on a battlefield. With her tracking skills, she could find a heavy-hoofed war-horse easily. For now though, she focused on Jyoti, doubting that the two... unscrupulous men would stop a Hero. She likely had another tome.

The nomad was in the right mood to aim at her though. "Give up... I think you're pinned." she said fiercely.

Victoria too was surprised by the pace in which everything was going. Oh so fast! No time to react! It was literally like she blinked and missed a whole lot.

She could have used her newly found Psychic staff to heal Leon, so why did Sue make him take off? She wanted more experience in staff using, non-mages didn't understand. D:<

She kept her cool. She wished that her Divine could do something! She was in the mood to fry more than morphs with it.... but then again, she just knew it would be entirely useless.

And there it was. The great magical creature, the dragon. Although Misura hated it for being what it was, she had to admit that it was quite a beautiful creature. The bishop was away, the nomad was gone... this left her free to concentrate on what she wished to fight most. And here, it was attacking her first. Her lips split into a wide grin as she turned to face this new onslaught. How delicious, the first time she had come against something with magic this powerful. It was time to test the limits of the sword which she had forged. Flipping Vezra, the General slammed her sword's point into the ground, lowering her body just a bit to move behind it. The flaming breath struck the blade...

Then split into two direction, rushing past on either side of Misura and leaving her absolutely unharmed. This was perfect. Now she had an open movement towards him. Or, she would... were she not to hear the sound of a cry, one she was always tuned in and listening for. She snapped her head to the side, and her eyes immediately caught the man on top of Jyoti. On top of HER Jyoti. How DARE he. Her eyes smouldered with rage at this affront. Jyoti was HERS. NO ONE was allowed to touch her in that way. However... there was still one thing that could be done. Misura's blade rose in the air again, and the woman allowed herself a quiet smirk. The man had locked himself to Jyoti, it seemed, and that would be his undoing. "Keep him in place!" came the words, echoing across the battlefield. There was only one person she could be talking to, so they couldn't possibly be misconstrued.

Vezra began to glow again, three of the four runes lending themselves to the power this time. She'd come prepared; before the battle, she'd had Jyoti cast an Aura spell on the blade. She'd hoped to save it, but this was a more pressing matter. A moment later, a spear of light extracted itself from the blade, flashing through the air directly towards Lance. Not his head; but to his stomach, where he would be injured and Jyoti could punish him as she wished.

That taken care of satisfactorily, Misura turned her attention back to the great dragon. It was roaring something at her, but it didn't seem to just be roaring. Perhaps dragonspeech? If only one of the blessings put upon her blade had been translation. Well, it made no difference. She would simply kill it, and then it would no longer matter what the creature ws saying. She strode forward confidently, blade held at the ready. "Prepare yourself, creature! Vezra is honed sharp enough to cut through even your scales. Do not expect me to show any mercy, for this is a war. I will not allow my enemies to escape, whether they are guilty or innocent."

Fire Dragon remained still in amazement and Misura's sword splitting his attack in two. No, "shock" fit the description better. Flametongue was supposed to be able to penetrate anything! It didn't even discriminate against armor or mage; Flametongue had always come through! And yet this general's sword had cleaved it in two. His mind wandered, stunned at this observation, even if for but a moment. His attack had delivered so that it would spread out to ensure catching its target within. Such was generally a great tactic when hitting is more important than potency or especially when you had multiple targets to deal with.

But it clearly wouldn’t be effective in this battle given the power of the Fire Dragon’s opponent. She was the material of legends after all. Perhaps that was why dragonkind had been on the losing side of the Scouring, FD contemplated while his mind was still absorbing what had just taken place before him. Yes, the “heroes” of Elibe that had defeated dragons so long ago seemed to have more in common with their current foes that FD had realized. Perhaps things would have gone differently had the dragons fought Elibe’s “heroes” with tactics meant for single opponents rather that those for mass-number battles which the Scouring consisted of. Alas, the past was the past and FD couldn’t alter it. Best to focus on the enemy at hand then on yesteryear’s failures.

The general’s power was just a testament to Fire Dragon that she had to be stopped. Were she to take him down, she’d surely proceed to kill his comrades as she apparently intended to, or worst or all – get to Nils, already on the very same battlefield as this demon general. That couldn't be allowed to happen! Fire Dragon prepared his second launch of Flametongue – this one intended to be streamlined and concentrated in its power, rather than to fan out over a wider area. He fired the focused blast directly at the general, his body being pushed back several inches even, at the concentrated power of it.

Lance was flabbergasted at Loch's behaviour. First he acted completely hostile because of Lance's actions towards the valkyrie, then he went 360 degrees as if it didn't mattered, took the tome with him, gave the valkyrie a kiss, then left as suddenly as he had appeared.

And Lance was still locked on tight with the valkyrie. "Isn't that just great? He left without letting us loose first. This is gonna be more annoying than I originally planned."

Lance motioned with his head to his right, meaning Jyoti's left. "On that side, the back of my belt. Fifth pocket from the middle. There's a pouch in there containing a keyring. One of those eight or so keys should be the one to the handcuffs. If we work together a bit, we'll be able to get loose."

Lance didn't think she'd be too happy working with him for a few seconds, but what other choice did they have? Waiting for Leon to wake up? She wasn't gonna treat him nicely once they got out of the cuffs, but Lance was actually quite confident in his ability to run away. And Loch had gotten a hold of her mean tome, after all. She still probably had something up her sleeve, but at least Lan-!

Lance jerked forward as something pierced through his abdoment. Looking down, he saw the glowing shape of something that looked like a weapon. Though...

"A...Light...spell...?"

Lance could feel the pain rushing through his body, but he couldn't scream for some reason. Was the spell draining him of energy? He did not know. But he did feel his head throbbing and his eyes doing dark. "Oh...dear. I was even starting to enjoy your company a bit, now that we were working together for...a while."

He smirked at Jyoti, but his eyes did no longer see what was in front of him. He coughed, and he felt some sort of liquid trickling down his mouth. He spoke one last time before losing consciousness completely. "You...should've told...your girlfriend...the...rules..."

Lance's body slumped forward, as his entire weight was put onto Jyoti. All his keys dropped into the grass below them as he swayed forward. But the keys weren't the main concern.

The two coins the two of them had been lying on earlier glowed more intense, and they finally had their stored power erupting.

However, it was not a bolt of lightning. Not a ball of fire. Not a gust of wind.

From each of the coins, a spark flew upwards, staying slightly in front of Jyoti and behind Lance. The spark then exploded into a multitude of colors, forming shapes in the air.

On one of the shapes, a cartoonised portrait of Lance showed, doing the V sign with his tongue sticking out cutely, and the other shaped turned into letters, forming a sentence.

HAHA. Gotcha! Had you there for a while, you fell for it! Come play again next time!

The image and sentence lingered for a few seconds, before it dissipated into the air, leaving nothing but the faint smell of smoke.

Had Lance originally planned doing it? Was it a bluff to make the hero believe Lance could hurt her worse than she could hurt him? Had he never intended to hurt her, just as he told Loch? Had he just mistaken the coins?

Whichever the case, Lance was now unconscious. But he was still smiling happily.

Fa was wandering through the forest and trips and rolls down a hill crashing and bumping into trees and shrubs alike. Fa rose up and dusted herself off and looked around saw Rhys. Fa ran towards Rhys and saw the putrid thing behind him. "Uhm...Mistah Whys...whats going on...?" Fa asked as she grabbed her dragonstone already feeling the energy pouring into her body.

... Things kept on getting weirder and weirder for Jyoti. She had no clue what was going to happen to her at this point, so she just remained silent, watching as the heron appeared, threatening Lance with a spell that she didn't immediately recognize. Her face softened a bit; if she appeared innocent enough, would the heron actually help her out?

"Since you look like a nice guy, could you take care of that tome?"

The valkyrie's heart sank. Take care... of Antaram? This guy... was he serious? No, no, no! She gulped, willing herself not to physically react. He couldn't take Antaram away from her! No one could! It was rightfully hers! She earned it! She--

A voice, soft and mocking, no louder than a whisper, ran through her head. "Ah, tsk tsk, Jyoti... you're letting it slip away so easily. You--"

"Shut up!!" The valkyrie snarled, looking at Lance for a moment before her eyes snapped up to Loch, who was walking away with Antaram. Her eyes narrowed dangerously. That heron may have helped her out, but he was not going to get away so easily! "You--"

"Keep him in place!"

Jyoti's expression softened almost instantly. Misura... A small smile came to Jyoti's face. She wasn't alone.

She turned back to Lance, who was motioning to where the keys were. Perfect. Just a bit longer and she wouldn't have to deal with this... this... this idiot. She nodded slowly, arm moving towards the pocket that he mentioned.

"A... Light... spell...?"

She hadn't even noticed that Misura's attack hit Lance, stabbing through his abdomen. It didn't matter to the valkyrie, though. She didn't feel it at all. Besides, he deserved it for doing what he did to her! Her hands twitched slightly, remembering despite her mental protests. She shook her head. Just get the keys. One, two, three, fo--

"You...should've told...your girlfriend...the...rules..."

The valkyrie blushed slightly and she blinked a couple of times, snapped back into reality by his words. Girlfriend... Misura? Involuntarily her eyes wandered over to where she knew Misura was, tracing back from the attack. Yes... They did like each other. She was Misura's, and Misura was hers. It was true. It was all true, yes, but it was strange to hear that coming out of someone else's mouth.

Girlfriend... girlfriend... ... Rules? Lance's body fell forward but she kept upright regardless. Rules-- It was then she remembered a rather important detail; the coins. They were to go off after he was unconscious and, well, he was most definitely unconscious now. His warning from earlier echoed through her mind and she braced for pain.

But no pain came.

... Huh? She looked up to where the sparks were flying, face warping with anger and irritation at the image before her. He was bluffing?! Her eyebrow twitched in annoyance. She stopped Antaram for nothing?! And her tome, the one she obtained all those years ago, was in the hands of some stranger she could consider a savior if she wasn't so damn pissed off! The valkyrie's head turned, looking for some sign of Loch; a feather, his retreating figure, something.

... Nothing. Nothing at all. Gone, as if he were never there.

But he was there. She was now defenseless thanks to that b*****d!

... Or was she? Jyoti remembered something; a request from Misura, to cast Aura on Vezra before they got to the battlefield. That's right! A small, barely visible smile came to her face. Where did I leave it...? Her eyes fell on Victory. ... Ah ha. The valkyrie wasn't completely defenseless. That tome was about to save her for the second time in a day! If she could just get her hands on that Aura... But how? Even though Lance's grip was looser than before, she still couldn't use her arms well.

There was only one choice. She turned to Sue, who had told her to give up. No intention to give up, though. "Miss... Sue, was it?" The valkyrie asked timidly. She remembered seeing the nomad back in Eyris, but so much had happened between then and now that she could barely remember what did happen. She rose to her feet, wobbling a bit; that cut from the poleaxe earlier was starting to affect her. "I... I know we are on opposite sides, but can we reach some sort of agreement?" A soft, sweet smile came to her face. If Jyoti couldn't get Sue to help her, then who knows what could happen.

It's all up to this... "I came to ensure that my comrade is safe. So, please, help me get him off. He said that one of the keys on the keyring over there unlocks the handcuffs." She gestured to Lance, who was being supported by the valkyrie, and then to the keyring, still sitting on the grass. "I will not harm you or him if you decide to. All I ask in return is a chance to find who I was looking for... What do you say?" She kept the smile on her face, positioning herself so that Lance was in between Sue and herself. Can't have Sue changing her mind and deciding to try to shoot her until she was dead, could she? "Do we have a deal?"

Soren observed the attack from afar. He watched it all the way to its destination — the morph's gut, with no way to stop it. There was an unpleasant sound, followed by the unpleasant expression on the morph's face, followed by an unpleasant thud of unconscious body against body. But it didn't register as unpleasant. Merely unfortunate.

What he was a bit more affected by was the spark that came up from the coins. Soren stepped back as a miasma of colors sprouted from the coins and formed some sort of illusion, which presented a message to the Hero — the truth that there was no danger behind them. His attention trailed back to the woman on the ground. She seemed frustrated, quite frustrated, but she was quite helpless.

Soren strode over as the woman began to plead with Sue. He listened to what she had to say, but the deal was not directed at himself, so he paid it little heed. He was dangerously close by the time she finished. And as soon as he was close enough, Soren kicked the woman in the chest, and he slammed her back to the ground with his boot.

He stood on her chest, letting his weight suffocate her. A snap of the fingers sent a blade of wind stabbing across the woman's cheek. Then he flourished his hand, uttered a simple incantation, and blades of wind bloomed around Jyoti's face, seeking to spill lifeblood from her veins, thirsting to open her throat.

Sometimes I wonder why they need me at all!

… For this, a tragic journey•
… A
vision of a dying embrace•

Evelyn twisted her head back; once she had Triumph stop far away from where she had summoned her draco zombie. The creature, with its great body, towered above the trees making it quite easy to spot. It was still holding up, but Evelyn knew full well that her creation wouldn’t last forever. The monster was unlike the others she had summoned, thus when she put too much distance between herself and it, the draco zombie would simply vanish as if it never existed. The benefit of this was that as long as she was in range, it could not be destroyed. It did have a toll it exacted upon her though; it stole away her energy with every attack that smacked into its body that failed to do any harm to the creature at all.

The tome, Chizakura, fell to the ground with a thud as Evelyn’s arm went limp. The energy drain from the draco zombie and… wait, was her shoulder bleeding more than before? “Blast, I must have cut it again on one of Triumph’s spikes,” she hissed while commanding Triumph to crouch down so she could pick her fallen weapon up with her good arm. Getting off Triumph to pick up the book wasn’t exactly an option right now. With the worsened shoulder wound Evelyn wasn’t confident she could get back on the monster’s back, and if she should faint with the state Triumph was in… well, it wouldn’t be good for her. For the moment, she would stash away the tome in the pack she had brought with her and return Triumph to his senses.

Evelyn visibly flinched as watched another spell get cast that was obviously meant to destroy her draco zombie. Naturally, the spell, just like the attacks before it; a failure. The air around the dragonic creature shimmered slightly before the spell smacked into it. So, when the spell finally got to the point it should have been harming the monster the image of the decaying thing became slightly transparent for the duration of the attack. When the attack ended, the monster returned to its original form, roaring once again at the top of its lungs.

“Ggh,” the Beastmistress moaned as her vision flickered and went black as she limply fell forward against Triumph once more. When her vision returned she stared stupidly at the ground from her position on the Gwyllgi. “Regain… your senses,” Evelyn mumbled as her good hand was placed against Triumph’s side once more and she sent magic into his body. As the magic took effect, his eyes returned to their normal bright red and control over his body was transferred back into his possession. “Triumph,” she mumbled as she pushed herself back to an upright sitting position. Her left arm was useless now, which was an easy conclusion to reach what with her sleeve being soaked to the point with blood that it could absorb no more, and there being no feeling from the shoulder all the way to the fingertips.

“We need to find the others.” It had been quite a while ago since Evelyn had sent that message for help, so it was safe to assume help would have arrived by now. Unless, they had never gotten the message and she was on her—no, it was stupid to guess when she could find out for sure. “Triumph, can you smell any of the others?” The three heads of Triumph all nodded in unison to her question as his body turned in the direction of where Evelyn assumed was where her comrades were. “Let’s go then.”

“Jyoti!” Evelyn shouted when Triumph had finally brought her close enough to the girl where she could see her with her own two eyes. What was that though? Was she cornered? Was she hurt? There was some strange man leaning against the blonde’s body and another one fast approaching her. Evelyn growled not at all pleased to see people other than Misura touching the girl and to think someone was so stupid as to be threatening her. It was outrageous! When Triumph reached the scene, he circled around before ramming into the man, that had dared to kick her, with enough force to send him flying. While Triumph preformed the motion, she retrieved her tome from her pack. "CHIZAKURA,” she yelled as the spell was summoned and smacked into the man’s wind causing both spells to fizzle out of existence.

"I don’t know who you sorry excuses for people are, but… if you fire that bow missy I will have Triumph bite into your dirty, filthy, disgusting, sorry excuse for a friend for touching my sister, so that his bones instantly shatter and he dies with intense pain. Things won’t stop there though, if you dare to strike even at the cost of your friend, you too will meet the same fate. And if you aren’t ugly enough now, b***h, you soon will be. The same goes for you, retched creature that dared to strike Jyoti!" As she said her speech, Evelyn jumped from Triumph’s back to retrieve the fallen keys that would separate that vile man from her lovely little sister. “Triumph, if that girl or man strike kill them both and the sticky, stinky, yucky man with gross hair.”

Sue knew better than to know that Jyoti, the one whom said she was 'looking for someone' was telling the truth. The nomad knew that what she was really doing was using Lance as a hostage of truce.

She held out her hands for a moment, being careful not to drop her bow as she lifted the morph thief onto her horse. Two unconscious warriors left her alone, she didn't stand a chance, not against superpowers like this. Regretfully, she'd have to retreat again.

"For now... do not fire upon me then... as you said. I will take him away." she answered calmly, before whipping Andre into action. How she regretted retreating, leaving Lord Rhys and FD by themselves! But... there was nothing else she could do, and she had to find Leon and Anri. They'd be in big trouble if left alone for very long.

Victoria was still in hiding. Again, another horse speeds off before she could heal someone! Not good, not good at all! Didn't anyone know that she was still here? Then again, she WAS hidden, but she didn't think she hid herself so well! Now... what to do?

Lance, Sue, and Leon were all gone. Whom was opposing Jyoti? No one?

She looked onward to FD and Misura. How interesting it would be, but it didn't look like Misura was in the mood to be taking hits. She too might have to flee if things got ugly. It wasn't what she wanted to do... but... sometimes it was best.
