Rather, he drops hints to those he fancies. Whether or not the latter notices the hints is another matter entirely, as they aren't terribly obvious.

Well, not until he's been assured that he has a steady-going relationship with the character in question, at least. Then his mind will wander... but only within certain places (i.e. a private residence, somewhere secluded enough for no one to disturb him, etc.), and with the permission of his lover.
Typically, he has other things on his mind, which outweigh his libido enough to suppress any thoughts of questionable morals.
