Ren paid attention to what Psyche instructed to his mind but he was busy focusing on the sticks laying on the ground to verbally reply. He didn't bother putting the sticks back in a tent formation. Instead, he placed both hands on the pile of sticks and focused chakra to the palms of his hands again. Ren started to force chakra into the sticks and held his palms there for half a minute doing this. He figured he would have to repeat what he just did, but for a longer period of time for the results to blossom.

Suddenly the sticks exploded in a ball of fire and Ren's palms got slightly burnt. He had immediately recoiled at the sight of chakra leaking out of the sticks rapidly. Ren pulled himself away from the fire and shoved his palms into the dirt. "Tsch!" The chakra that was en-coating his palms had reduced the injury; it could have been worse.

With his eye-jutsu still activated, he pulled his hands from the dirt and observed the damage that was done. No severe damage had been implicated, but several corrupted thoughts started to race through Ren's mind. He had just caused a pile of sticks to explode in fire. Possibilities of different attack styles rose to his attention. Ren was stuck there staring at his burnt hands absentmindedly while an astonished smile finally appeared on his face. The smile seemed like it was tainted with ill intentions.

Without so much as a flash of foxfire, Psyche is back to her normal state and crouching next to Ren. She places a hand on his shoulder and looks into his face. This is an expression she's seen before. In turn, her expression becomes very hard and serious.
"I'm gonna take a leaf out of someone else's book: 'With great power comes great responsibility'. You now know the very basic way of turning something into ash without gasoline, a lighter, or even matches. You've got to remember, though, that you're still playing with fire, and you can still get burned. And the fire isn't the only thing that can burn you. I can. To be very blunt about it, if I ever catch you abusing your element or using it for anything other than good will, your training will come to a halt and you will be at my mercy. I'm not gonna sugar coat this, Ren. You turn your fire on someone or something that doesn't deserve it, and there will be dire consequences. I don't care if it's an old, dead tree, but there had better be a good reason behind it ashing it. Do you understand?"

Ren's smile faded when Psyche's hand touched his shoulder. He looked the opposite way when she started explaining the ground rules for this element's capabilities. The look on his face was that of a scolded child's; saddened and resentful. After listening to what she had to say, he looked back in her general direction and nodded slowly. He now had a better understanding of the seriousness of this element.

Psyche pats Ren's shoulder and allows herself a smile. Behind the smile, though, is concern. She'll have to closely watch the kid. His will may be of the sort that is easily swayed. Training him may not be a good idea, but that will have to be set aside for now. Ren is her student, and she will teach him.
"Okay, keep going. Practice the same thing, over and over, until you have a better understanding of the technique and you can perform it with a little more grace. Watch your energy levels, though. I want you to keep your limits in mind. Don't practice so much that you wouldn't be able to defend yourself if an enemy dropped by. That's how I want you to train. Now, go for it. I'll stand by."
The fox woman takes a few steps away and leans against a tree. Her eyes become half-lidded, as though she's taking a sort of half nap, but they're still sharp. Nothing with escape her notice.

"O-ok.. right!" Ren got up and gathered more sticks but this time he laid them out on the floor. He picked up one stick at a time and tried to light each one separately. So far he was only able to light two before having difficulties again. He had been snuffing the sticks into the dirt to stop the burning for the past two so far.

Ren trained with lighting the sticks one by one until he had gone through all of them. Finally he had gotten the grasp of it, and was able to light each one on fire separately. While still sitting, Ren twisted his body sideways to look over to Psyche, "Psyche-sensei, I'm done for now I think.."

____________________________________________________________________________ Ren was practicing igniting different kinds of objects for the past several weeks. So far he was only able to light wood on fire and the like. While in the middle of trying to ignite a rock, Ren looked up at the sky and moved a hand over his eyes as a visor. There was an eclipse in the sky. "Oh cool, haven't seen one in person yet..!"

As the light from above faded across the land, Ren saw something in the sky. Byakugan! The veins around his eyes pulsated. His eyes zoomed in on a flock of black birds heading towards this general direction. Ren dropped the rock he was holding and continued to watch the birds' flight path. It was unnatural to see crows around this area.

As the crows drew closer Ren's Byakugan would notice something strange about the birds, they had a fading layer of spiritual energy wrapped around them, residue from the summoning, but beyond that there was nothing. Where the birds chakra paths should be seemed to be completely drained, and yet something was flowing through the paths.
Several of the birds flew ahead, diving towards Ren

Ren immediately noticed something was off about the birds' chakra flow. These weren't birds, or at least they weren't anymore. Those aren't -! He crouched down and placed a hand on the ground in front of himself. Ren waited for the diving birds to get closer.

Many birds scattered, but some birds seemed to be preparing to attack. The attacking birds accelerated rapidly as they neared Ren, moving in a straight line to take advantage of draft from the other birds, still the burst of speed coming from nowhere. They were moving nearly a hundred miles an hour by the time they entered striking distance, and still accelerating.
Meanwhile some of the birds were circling around in an attempt to attack either Ren from behind or continue on to the dojo, though their path wasn't clear just yet

Ren's optical bloodline passively monitored the birds that passed above while his main attention was drawn towards the birds that were approaching directly.
He clutched the hand that was against the ground as a thick dome made of stone spawned and formed around Ren. A second dome of stone, thinner than the first, formed around the first dome with five-foot spikes spawning all around it. There was very little space between each spike, which had made the 2nd layer thinner; not enough resources to make it as thick as the first.

The lead bird was impailed on the spike before it could react. It's blood splattered across the barrier. The second bird seemed almost as surprised as the first, however Ren's wall would take more of a shock, as if the bird exploded as it impacted. The third fourth and fifth birds seemed to create bigger explosions as they apparently had more time to react. When the sixth bird hit Ren would find feathers sharpened like blades sticking out of his side of the wall. The putrid green ichor of the birds dripping through slowly, hissing as it touched the earth and stone.
Ren's eyes might notice the way whatever it was in the bird's chakra paths seemed to surge just before the explosions. All the attacking birds starting their suicide technique immediately upon the death of the first bird, in a way that spoke less of telepathy and more of a hive mind.
The larger flocks had left some stragglers to turn back towards Ren to fill in their missing comrades, but the group at large was moving towards the Dojo.
