"D-do you think that'd be alright?" Lorey asked, but her eyes were big with the very idea. "We'd have to go into the really ritzy places... there's lots of security there. No one gets away with anything when the police are around."
Actually, it was more the fear they instilled in everyone that made everyone behave in that section, but if it meant they'd be safe without having a man around...
"You know..." Lorey said, more to herself than Raquel. "Let's do it! Let's go have fun like we were supposed to all these years." She gathered up her purse in a wink, but waited or Raquel. For some reason, she felt Raquel was more knowledgeable about these things than she was, getting the feeling of a little chick to a mother hen.

Raquel nodded, though paused a moment holding up her e finger. "Wait right here..." She said as she turned on her heel. She took off quickly but quietly down the hall towards Damian's room. She spotted exactly what she was looking for. A rather expensive looking wallet sat idly on the dresser. She picked it up and pulled out one or two credit cards, trying hard not to let her curiosity provoke her to see what else his wallet contained. Leaving it where she found it, she took off, practically floating back into the living room. "Let's have some fun!" She gave a playful wink to Lorey as she held up the credit cards. And fun...they would have.

For all Lorey knew, Damian had already given permission for her to walk off with his credit cards, and so she never said anything about them. In the back of her mind, she feared running into trouble... but regular people hardly ever got attacked, right? It seemed to her like only people in lower stations were the ones targeted because society and all it's villains viewed them as expendable.
"You lead the way. This was your idea," she said, giving her dress a little brush here and there. "And let's not be too long... Damian might worry."

Her eyes narrowed slyly as a twisted yet good humored smile crossed her face. "Let him worry. We're grown women, we can do what we want. We don't have to have any man's permission to do anything." She nodded matter of factly, taking Loreys hand as if she were a long time friend. "Come on, I'll hail a taxi and we'll be off." She said pulling her towards the door.

And just like that, Lorey was being pulled into a night made exclusively for them, two run-down souls in great need of a girl's night out. She wasn't sure what to do with that kind of freedom, or how to really enjoy herself, but Raquel did... so she would simply find out through her.

*Few hours later*
Raquel stumbled up to the door way trying to stop laughing. She and Lorey both were weighed down by ridiculous amounts of shopping bags. They had started their evening just looking through the different shops not really buying anything, mostly because, Raquel noticed, Lorey was too quiet to speak up. She fixed that right away. She had Lorey try on probably quite literally hundreds of things. Buying most of them. The had bought a few more dresses, some shoes, a bit of jewelry and some under wear, bra's included. Raquel had enjoyed herself thoroughly, feeling as if for once in her life she had a friend who didn't want something from her...only to simply be her friend. To end the night, the two had gotten dinner at a fancy little cafe, both choosing only soemthing small for they both had light appetites as Damian and Richard had probably already noticed. Though their evening was almost perfect, Raquel wasn't satisfied. Before heading home, she took Lorey to one of the well known spas that her 'clients' usually sent their wives to while they were 'busy'. She didn't mention that part to her, but simply that it was a wonderful way to relax and forget your troubles. After treating themselves to a few therapies and treatments, Raquel decided they shouldn't head home without something drastic. She had heard of a new kind of Hair extensions that were much more permanent than the old kind that only stayed in a couple days to a few weeks at the most. They matched her hair color exactly, transforming her straight little pixie cut into a long luxurious mass of wavy perfection. It looked and felt like her own natural hair. She hadn't believed it was her she was looking at when she looked in the mirror at first. In the back of her mind, she hoped Damian would like it, though she reminded herself all throughout the day that she didn't need his approval...even if she secretly wanted it. She turned to Lorey, with a tired smile, knowing that they were both thoroughly exhausted. She held her finger to her lip shushing her as she reached for the door. Hopefully they could sneak back in and get to bed before Damian realized they were there.

But of course he did know they were there, because he had been sitting on the couch for hours waiting.
"Where the bloody hell have you two been?" he exclaimed as soon as the slight rustle of a bag gave. Lorey cringed. She had actually enjoyed the night very much, and hated to see it come down to this yelling. Raquel had made her feel like she deserved all the praise and love she got from Richard, with every compliment and thing she had wanted her to get, always saying how pretty and wonderful she was. She tried to return every little gesture herself no matter how awkward it all felt, but eventually Lorey was relaxing in her new friend's presence like they had always been so close.
Even while they were at the spa, Raquel somehow made her feel more like an independent woman and not a frightened girl. They chattered about men, life, the troubles they had while getting their hair done (Lorey getting her long sheet of white trimmed so that it hung halfway down her back, along with some properly trimmed bangs instead of the choppy ones she always had). Everything was like finding a sister in a way, or at least someone who understood. That was all she ever wanted in a friend. Just someone to understand.
But then, she suddenly wished Damian was the one to understand, as he sat there, stuttering at them both. But mostly, it was at Raquel. "You... you went out?" he said, looking at the bags, and their haircuts. "Alright, well, that was the kind of spending I had wanted you to do in the first place, but for the love of life, taking my credit cards without my saying so... where are they? I almost had them cancelled and the police set out to find you, not knowing if you'd been kidnapped, or... or something worse."
Though what that something worse was, he couldn't quite say. Dead? Or maybe becoming thieves? That was indeed a thought he had entertained throughout his wait, that Raquel was really a thief and this was the climax of her entire facade of helpless prostitute. But obviously, they were back, and had wanted a fun time. He could understand that. Maybe.
"Well?"

Raquel was used to angry yelling men, though it coming from Damian threw her for a moment. But she recovered her falter, giving him a seductively entrancing smirk. "We were just doing what you wanted love." She said with a raise of an eyebrow and thrusting her hip out to balance the bags. "Lorey and I did what women our age are supposed to do. Enjoy life. With or without a man. I know it must be difficult for you though, to even consider two lovely, independent women just taking off without your approval. I will apologize for taking the cards however.." She tossed him the two pieces of plastic before readjusting her grip on everything. "I take full responsibility on that mark. There's no point in sitting here yelling at Lorey, she was just accompanying me on a little girls only excursion." She leaned into Lorey in a chummy manner, laughing a little. "Besides, you might like what we bought..." She smiled and bit her lip seductively looking into her bag but keeping it just out of Damian's eye view.

Flabbergasted didn't quite describe what Damian was feeling at the moment. "Good grief, woman, we're surrounded by murder and scandal, and you think I'm worried about you being independent?" Being alone in that danger, that was the key there. He stashed the cards away in his vest pocket before glancing down at the bag with a slight curiosity.
"Unless there's a pistol or something else you could have used for self-defense, I can't say I really care what it is you bought..." But his eyes... his eyes were scanning her face very carefully. Gorgeous, really, he thought. However, Damian was searching for some hidden reason for this sudden burst of rebellion in her. Dragging Lorey along was excusable. She was never one for standing up for herself unless she found it absolutely necessary...
"But do try to warn me next time. It is my money after all." And with that, Damian went into the kitchen to pour himself some kind of hard drink. He needed it after all the stress he had just put himself through.

Raquel's smirk faded as he disappeared into the kitchen. She looked back at Lorey trying to hide her guilt ridden expression. "H-how about you go on and put those pretty clothes up...I'll catch up with you later." She said quietly, turning her attention to maybe patching things up with Damian. With one last smile to her new found friend, Raquel gathered her things and followed Damian into the kitchen. She set down her bags on the floor and stood facing him, her arms crossed uncomfortably, and her eyes diverted. "Look...I'm sorry ok?" She said, a little annoyed, mostly at herself. "But I was just trying to help Lorey. She's been so dependent on you guys physically and emotionally...I was just trying to how her what she is...a beautiful young woman with her whole life ahead of her." She looked up at him, her eyes full of pride for how much Lorey opened up to her that night. "And just so you know, we didn't go anywhere dangerous..." She added, feeling her body get hot from slight anger. "Where do you think I'd take her? Down to the streets I used to work? Back to the slums? What good would that have done? Besides, even if we had run into trouble, I would have protected her. I've protected myself for years. That time you helped me the other night in front of the hotel? When situations arise like that I take the beating to avoid a bigger one. But if someone else is involved I can and will protect them...I'm stronger than you give me credit Damian..." She felt very uncomfrotable now. She had let off her steam in a rather gentle way, but now was only left with guilt. After a short moment she looked up at him. "...Are you mad?" She asked, her voice suddenly taking on that of a young girl, waiting for reproof. She looked down at her now long hair. "O-or, what about my hair?? I did that for you, you know..." She trailed off, suddenly wishing she had kept her mouth shut.

Lorey nodded, regretting that she hadn't spoken up in Raquel's defense at all. They had shared so much together for that night, and she had stayed the quiet little mouse she always had been. But, she smiled and nodded, scurrying off to her room to hang up everything they had bought together.
Damian turned from his glass of rich wine to listen to Raquel. He knew she wouldn't place Lorey in danger, not by the way she had wanted to leave at the mere thought of hurting him, and he hadn't imagined that they would have returned to their old worlds of filth willingly. No, it was returning there unwillingly that haunted the possibilities running through his mind.
Damian set his glass down upon the counter and slowly approached her with the slowness of a cat stalking an unsuspecting bird. It was only when he was standing so dangerously close to her that he finally muttered, "Of course I'm not mad..." And with a fluid motion, he caught her in his arms, holding her close as if he had just reclaimed a stolen treasure. "I'm relieved..." And again, that rare softness in his voice began pouring out like water from a sudden crack in the wall about his heart.
"Raquel, I thought someone had taken you away. And Lorey, I was worried about her as well, but I had no idea where you went or what was going on. I thought that if maybe you had gone out that you would return, but what if you hadn't? I kept wondering if you and Lorey were out there, taken by the people hanging over us like vultures, while I was sitting around, waiting for an answer to come to me. This madness... I had no idea if you were dead, suffering or alive." At the end of his breathless whispering, Damian heaved a sigh.
"You did not have to do anything for me. Your hair is ravishing, but you did not have to do a single thing for me..."

Raquel had flinched as he had brought her so close so quickly. Out of reflex, she expected a strike, but realistically, coming form Damian, she knew better. At his desperate, breathless words, she was speechless. It was not what she was expecting at all. All she could say, in a tiny, scared little voice was "I'm sorry..." She looked up at him, not knowing she had him so worried. It was something she didn't expect form him, and was pleasantly surprised. "Im...so sorry..." Her sly attitude had disappeared, like it usually did around Damian. Looking down she started fiddling with her hair. "...I wanted to be presentable for you...you know, so you could take me out where you needed me to go..." She furrowed her brow, not able to meet his eyes.

It was with a heavy heart that he told himself he couldn't take her where he wanted to, but he let that go. She didn't have to know. Not then, at least.
For the moment, he simply held her out at arm's length to have a proper look at her. "You were always presentable... now, though I must admit, you are... well, it is unfair to all those other women." Damian wanted to kiss her terribly (and do more than kiss her, to be sure). He hoped that didn't show, lest she think him an absolute lecher, but he could play the card she kept in her hand so often.
"And unfair to me," he added, letting her hands drop with a coy little glance as he turned back to his wine. Oh, the things he could do to make her his, but he would not. Not yet, anyhow.

"Unfair to you?" She asked, bringing her own hands together in a self-assuring way, trying not to let him notice. "What do you mean by that?" She asked, leaning against the counter as well, though pulled herself up so she was sitting on it, cocking her head at him.

"Don't you know?" Damian said, trying so hard to preoccupy himself with putting the wine away and not looking at her legs, or lovely figure sitting upon his counter. But eventually temptation turned him right around to look at Raquel. It was quite the effort to keep his voice even and his eyes from scanning her in unsavory fashion. But he would control himself, simply because he cared for her, and was a gentleman, even in this time of insanity. "And... I wish we were together, I suppose."
All the past coyness was gone, replaced by something sounding like... regret? Desire for things to be different? Even he didn't know.
