For the first time since Cindy had begun teaching Rhea, the girl was not paying close attention to what her teacher was saying. She was simply too distracted by the myriad of magicks that she could feel coursing through her body and being absorbed into her. Whisper rebuked her several times, as had Cindy, but at the most Rhea could only appear to pay attention, hearing only about half of what she was being told.

"This is the reason you have your staff, you know," Whisper reminded Rhea, licking one paw. "So that you don't absorb too much. Who knows what else you're taking in besides just abilities?"

Caranthir looked around the inn as he and Triton arrived back, his eyes scanning the guests anxiously, searching for his partner. He didn't see her, however, and though his smile remained, his eyes reflected his disappointment - and even anxiety.

"We're back," Triton called out once he reached the group.

Which pretty much cut off whatever Cindy was going to say to Rhea. Though it looked like the poor Phoenix woman was going to give up at the moment. Rhea was just far too distracted today and she hoped tomorrow would be
better.

"Welcome back," she smiled up at the two men, "Did it go well?"
"I have more than enough reference for the portal, and it will certainly be the most secure."

Caranthir stood next to Cindy and smiled down at her. "I beg your pardon," he said politely, "but ... do you know if Aerin has returned yet?"

If not, he wasn't sure if he would be able to wait around. His worry was evident in his tone, and he didn't even try to hide it, even though his smile never wavered.

Rhea looked at Caranthir intently. "Did she go somewhere dangerous?" she asked quietly, settling down for quite possibly the first time that day.

Cindy looked up and shook her head, "I don't recall seeing her at all, not since she has left and that was before you and Triton did."

Not to mention it would be very hard to miss a girl like Aerin, she was so different compared to the elves she knew.

Caranthir nodded, his smile lessening slightly.

"Thank you," he said softly, "I'll leave you alone."

He glanced at Rhea, almost as if he were trying to gauge her and figure out just how much she knew and about what, then headed off towards the corner table where Aerin had been sitting when they group had first been introduced to the two.

Rhea looked over at Cindy and blinked. "It was just a question ..."

Cindy sighed and put her chin in her hand which was proped up by her elbow. She looked at Rhea good naturedly before inquiring of the little girl.

"And how much of that question was gleened from what you might have sensed or taken in from him?"

She knew for a fact Rhea was far more perspective because of her gift, and knew from talking to some of her family members about Aragost (when his name came up in conversation) that knowing too much could be a hinderence.

"He's worried about her," Rhea replied softly, staring across the room at the man. "Not like how Mama worries when I go outside to play, but ... how she worries when Papa goes out into the mountains all by himself. Like ... like he's expecting something bad to happen to her."

She turned to Cindy, her eyes anxious. "Do you think she went somewhere bad?"

Well that was very logical, even though Cindy knew that Rhea was still using her gift (well it wasn't like the girl could turn it off even though she could shield).

"It is quite possible," Cindy replied and then added softly, "But I suggest in the future to ask your questions with care. I think asking him if she was in danger revealed you knew more than you should. Sometimes it makes people nervous, others suspicious..."

She paused knowing she had just delivered a lecture but that couldn't be hleped neither.

"And you probably hit too close to home, in otherwords you were probably right which was why he left."

Rhea wasn't sure that made any sense at all. "It was just a question," she pointed out, confused. "What's wrong with asking a question?"

Of course, she was used to being around people who not only understood her, but who had known her for her whole life (or a good part of it, in Cindy's case), and so her incredible understandings rarely confused them.

Cindy sighed a bit, she realized she had been too accepting of the sort of questions that Rhea had been asking but no one back in the Borderlands were ever bothered by it.

"There's nothing wrong with asking a question," Cindy amended, "It's just some of the questions you ask show you know a lot more than you should. Think about it, if you didn't have your gift would you have known that what Aerin was doing was dangerous?"

Rhea shrugged. "Maybe. He looked worried. And he sounded worried too. And he kept looking around for her even though he was asking you if you saw her."

Perhaps she would not have noticed so much without her gift, knowing already how he was feeling, but still, the clues had been there, even if they had been subtle.

"This is true... though we don't know Aerin or Caranthir that well, most wouldn't assume right off that those were the signs of someone worried because they knew their friend was doing something dangerous," Cindy suggested gently, "The point is, is when you know that you have sensed something from someone else, keep in mind that it might not be something someone wants to be brought to attention, or something most people wouldn't realize normally about another."

She shrugged a bit.

"We're all use to it because we know you Rhea, it's normal to assume you are very observate, and this is part of your gift. Most will not realize this, your cousin Lothiriel and Aragost both sometimes say things that people don't expect. In Aragost's case I've been told on a few occasions that it is down right creepy. People just do get easily unsettled when you know more than you should, so don't take it amiss if other people besides Caranthir might be disturbed by your question."

Rhea blushed and lowered her eyes, feeling rather self-conscious for the first time in her life. She had never thought about the idea that she might make people feel a bit uneasy ... but what else could she do? She wanted to know where Aerin was ...

"Maybe I should have waited until she got back and then asked her instead," she mumbled, feeling bad now for upsetting Caranthir.

Cindy smiled a bit and placed a hand upon Rhea's head, the little girl meant well she knew this.

"It's fine, you were just worried, but just so you know in the future. You're very unique using your gift is as natural is breathing, and it's always there. So it's going to be natural you're not going to think about it at times."

Rhea smiled up at Cindy, her cheeks still a light shade of red. "So I have to be careful what kinds of questions I ask?" she asked hesitantly. But how would she know what questions were safe, and which ones weren't? After all, she was just a child ... growing up, certainly, but still a child.
