In ancient Egypt, similarities between words were not simply coincidence, and puns weren't so much a form of humor as a revelation of an intimate connection between two hitherto seemingly disparate subjects.

Language, after all, is a sacred gift from the god Djhwty- and the vibrations of words encompass the essence of the things they name. This principle was used in some of the creation stories, where the world was spoken into being- or formed out of harmonic vibrations.

My favorite creation stories make use of this principle.^_^ But they are only partially adequate as explanations- the ancient Egyptians used a variety of stories to express the complexity of this event.
