They soon made their way up to the level where the old man greeted them kindly.

"Ah, its a pleasure to meet you young lady~!" said the man as he reached out to shake his hand. His long, supple for his age, fingers reached out for her hand, their length covered in silver rings of all sorts and ages.

"I hope my assistant has not harmed you in anyway."

Flint eyed the man before giving a small "humf" and turning away. He skuttled into the small kitchen and started to prepare for the small meal if it could be called thus.

He pulled a small tin kettle from the cupboard and placed it on the small heating plate after filling it to the brim with water.

Dasha eyed the man carefully as soon as he came into sight. He seemed pleasant enough until....She stared at his rings and she hesitated. She didn't want to shake his hand. But it would seem rude. Reluctantly, she reached her hand out and took his. Her hand burned as her skin touched the cold metal. She tried not to show it, but she winced slightly at the touch. She silently cursed herself for doing so.
"It's...nice to meet you to," she said, somewhat strained. Who was this man?

The old man's eyes seemed to sharpen, picking up her wince as he pulled his hand away sharply.

"Why don't we go sit down miss..." he muttered as he turned and pulled his hands closer to him, pulling them into his long sleeves.

He turned, his beard flying through the air as he turned. He walked swiftly to the room with very little wobbling. As he came to the small room next to the kitchen he paused to look at Flint before continuing to the leather seat and plopping down.

With his left hand he motioned Dasha to sit next to him.

Dasha felt suddenly uncomfortable. Well, if she hadn't been before, she was now. She glanced away, wishing Flint would come back. She didn't want to be alone with this guy....
She turned back and watched him move to the couch. He seemed to have a change in attitude all of a sudden. Or at least that's what it seemed. Maybe she was just paranoid? She hoped so.
She walked over to him and slowly sat down, a decent distance away from him so they weren't touching, but not so far away that she seemed like she was afraid of him. Though she would have rather moved farther.....
She glanced back to were Flint had gone. 'You can come back now....'

There was a small crash of metal followed by some shuffling before Flint made his way into the small room. A wooden board was tightly in his grasp as he walked, the pot and several cups rested on its surface along with what seemed to be some cookies.

"Here," he said as he placed the board on the table and handed the two a freshly poured cup of tea.

The man sniffed his cup for a moment before scowling.

"This smells different..." he complained. "Is it out normal tea?"

Flint winced a tad as he eased into his chair.

"We are out. I told you so before and since I have no clue where you get that stuff I couldn't buy more. This is your old morning tea... the stuff you used to drink all the time... Lemon something."

The old man sighed slightly before taking a drink.

"Probably for the best,... wouldn't want her dieing..." he muttered under his breath as he reached out for a cookie.

Dasha let out a sigh of relief as Flint re-entered. She never thought she'd be so happy to see someone in her life. She watched him bring the tea in, not thinking anything of it until she heard the old man's comment. What?
She glanced over at him briefly, shooting him a questioning look that he probably wouldn't see. She then looked back at the tea. She wasn't sure she wanted any at that point.....
Pushing the thought away, she decided to try to change the subject. Perhaps actually engaging in a conversation. Oh dear....
"So....Flint...." she began, looking down at her lap for a moment before lifting her eyes to look at him. "What do you do here?"
Anything to keep the spotlight off of herself. Though....the fact that she spoke at all might have ruined that.

"What does any person who works in a library do dear?" scoffed the old man, a teasing smile on his face.

Flint shot him a quick glare before looking over to Dasha with a caring smile.

"I sort books... help people find literature they might be having trouble finding... and I read a lot... Cause there is a unbelievable amount of down time in here... And sorting books gets done quite quickly."

Flint sighed slightly and took a sip of his tea before setting it down before him.

Dasha did her best to ignore the man's statement. She just stared at Flint, an almost obviously fake smile on her lips. She nodded her head slightly as she spoke. Maybe it would just be easier to pretend the man wasn't there.
...why did Flint want her to meet him? From what she could see, he wasn't the most pleasant man ever. But Flint seemed so excited about her meeting him. She was probably disappointing him. Her eyes slowly shifted to glance at the man before snapping back to Flint.
Oh well.
"That sounds.....interesting," she said, slowly. "At least you like books, then...right?" She was straining to have a normal conversation. It was difficult when her mind was still focused on the man sitting next to her rather then what they were talking about.

Flint continued to glare at the old man as he spoke, taking a moment or two to shift his gaze over to Dasha.

"Yes, I do like them. I love learning. I especially love the stories Senior tells... Senior... would you care to tell us one?"

The old man's eyes seemed to snap to Flint's, his body growing still.

"You want a story here today, eh?"

Dasha avoided eye contact with the man, once again. Even when Flint mentioned him. She continued to stare at Flint before her eyes slowly traveled to the wall behind him.
The old man's words echoed her thoughts. She could only wonder what kind of stories he had. Well, maybe it would give her more insight on this guy. She slowly looked over at him, saying nothing. What would be his next move?

Flint nodded in return as he sipped his drink.

The man sighed as he closed his eyes and thought to himself.
"Lets see. Yes. I think this one will do....."
He opened his eyes slowly as a gentle smile came to his face. His english heritage came out quite clear as he leaned back and crossed his legs, his tea held in one hand and a plate in the other.
His whole personality seemed to change as he relaxed.

"There once was this young girl that lived in a far off land. The name escapes me at the moment. The girl, yes.. she was around your age when the terrible thing happened. Her father died. Was shot I believe, and thrown into the ocean. His body sank to the bottom and time passed with no evidence of where his body might have been. The girl worked hard to help raise her family of two younger siblings. She was old enough to care for them. The strange thing was that this man came around all the time. He was a blasted wanker of a man. His personality lacked all charm though it didn't stop him from getting what he wanted. And what he was looking for was the girl's father. she told him he was dead, for that was what everyone thought. The man scoffed at this and left for the time being."
He gave a small smile at this.
"He knew that her father was not like other men. He knew very well that her father was really a cursed soul. One who would be forced to walk the earth after death had taken him. All because of a deed done by his family long ago. And like the man had said, the girl's father returned. Steel cold spurred through his veins as he pulled himself from the ocean."
He gave a cough and then sipped his tea.
"Here the legend is skewed. Some say that the man took a silver cross and pierced the girl's father through the heart and stole his blood to be used on himself. The hunter was charged with the girl's father's death. And he was won. Others say that the hunter was killed by his own weapon. Those who believe this think that a terrible force had caused him to kill himself. Some believe that the girl's father killed him in order to stop the death of his child. Either way the end is grim. But it is a valuable story for it is one of many that have to do with the cursed souls that wander out land..."

Dasha listened to the man's story, growing more and more uncomfortable the entire time. It sounded far too familiar for her liking. True, she really didn't know what had happened to her. But, from what she had gathered from what her mother had said, it sounded like she had died before she was born. Or...while she was being born. There really wasn't a way to tell. But it didn't matter: she had died. But she was still here.
The man had said nothing about vampires but she couldn't help but assume. His entire library reeked of vampire lour and legend.

'I have to get out of here,' she suddenly decided. She couldn't stay with this man. He was far too close to finding out her secret. And she didn't want to have to move. Not again.
She stood up, giving a forced smile to both Flint and the man. "That was a great story but I'm afraid I have to go," she said, avoiding eye contact with the old man. "I'm sorry to leave you like this, but I seem to have forgotten that I......told my parents I...would visit...them...." Her last sentence seemed almost painful and slightly forced, but still believable. At least for one with an untrained ear.

The old man looked to her and smiled. Amazingly it wasn't creepy at all. Almost sad. As though his thoughts had been confirmed and he was all too sad about it.

"It was a pleasure meeting you child. I'm sorry that you must take your leave. I would have loved speaking with you."

Flint had jumped up next to her, his hand touching her hand absentmindedly.

"Are you sure? Hm,... I'm sorry."

The old man's voice became firm as he addressed Flint.

"Escort her out of her please, and be sure to open the door for her. Those doorknobs can be awfully cold. Their chill is sometimes very painful. We don't want her harmed."

He eyed Dasha before lowing his eyes and sipping his tea silently.

Flint looked from the old man to Dasha, slightly confused.

"Well, lets not keep your parents waiting...."

Dasha drew her hand away when she felt Flint's touch as a reflex. She then quickly caught herself and let it fall back down. He probably had already felt her jerk, however. She looked to him, then back to the old man.
"Well thank you very much for your hospitality," she said with a slight smile on her face. "I'm sorry I couldn't stay longer." 'I would have loved to hear more stories.' She had thought about saying that, but changed her mind. She just...didn't want to even say it.
She then turned towards the stairs, looking at Flint. She was going to wait for him but she decided she couldn't. She walked towards the stairs, but made sure her steps were slow enough so that she wouldn't seem too eager...

Flint felt the jerk of her arm and pulled his hand away. He felt hurt, like a stake had been driven through his own heart. But he decided to ignore it. Why would she want him touching her anyway?

He pushed the thought from his mind as he hurried to accompany her. He followed her down the stairs and to the door, his hand firmly gripping the door knob. It was awfully cold.

He wanted to say 'Do you want me to accompany you? Will you be alrighty by yourself?' but he felt as though he was putting her down by even thinking it.

"Tell you parents hello for me.... take care."
