"exploring your mind" will just send you in circles around all the information that's already in there.

That's the purpose of "self-discovery."

I dont need drugs. I act half stoned half the time as it is. I mean, if that's me WITHOUT drugs, me WITH drugs can't be good. eek

But yeah. Drugs are bad. They kill brain cells and stuff. And honestly, who's gonna listen to "violence is not the answer" when its coming from someone who's been smoking something.

Although I dont do them personally, I wouldnt bash someone who DOES do them. Like, I know this guy. He's seriously one of the funniest people I know, but he recently got in trouble for being drunk 3x the legal limit. And I know he does other stuff, too. But I dont dislike him or anything. He's hilarious. So, you know, it's really up to you, but I dont think drugs are really NEEDED for anything other than medical reasons.

I still think, well I know, that there are a lot of people out there that use drugs to escape from their reality, or as a crutch, or simply out of boredom and lack of motivation...but I will grant that it's possible that some drugs may have beneficial effects and because of their bad connotations, lie as untapped resources.

I read recently in a British scientific journal (actually pointed out by my aunt to my mom who has smoked pot since she was 13 and is now 49) that research into the diet of the apes from which we evolved shows that they ate psychotropic plants as a small but regular part of their diet. It goes on to say that it is possible that the rise in nervous breakdowns and some mental illness in present day society could be due to the lack of those plants in our diet! plants like cannabis!Basically we have given up marijuana for valium and prosac. Drugs that are at this time accepted by society. I have a victorian herbalist encyclopedia that lists medicinal uses and preparations for cannabis and opium. Laudenum (an opiate) was a common bedtime drink in the days of Queen Victoria.(Of course she also thought lesbianism was an impossibility!)
tell me how many hippies drink coffee? It is not really a matter of no drugs is it? It is really about which drug is socially acceptable. If someone wants to grow cannabis in their attic for their own private consumption and pays their taxes for compost and gardening equipment how is that more criminal than growing carrots. They are not harming society.
I personnally know many ppl over 45 who have used cannabis since their teens and they live productive, responsible lives. Teachers, lawyers, architects, doctors. In England ppl smoke cannibis with tobacco sometimes. The modern trend is to go the usa way and loose the tobacco or some are using vapourisers to ensure their lungs saftey. In this country there have been no cancer lung disease associated with smoking cannabiis alone and the reports about the link with depression are not conclusive. The problem is ppl with a tendancy towards depression often look for a crutch. We need to look towards the cause of depression etc. within our society not dump our problems neatly at the door of cannabis.
Lets stop prohibition! Would you feel safer with a room full of drunks or a room full of stoned freaks? I know where I'd rather be!!!!!Oh and in case you havent guessed yes, my mom did help me write this!!!say "hello mom"
she says-"hello you wonderful new era of beautiful people! Keep those freak flags flying!!!"

There's nothing that hippies should or shouldn't do. It's all up to personal opinion. I, myself, am in favour of drugs, but that's just me.

To whether it hurts one's imagine: yeah, it probably does. I mean, you really can't take anyone seriously if they're blazed out of their mind. And many people today don't realize that there's space inbetween being sober and being really stoned.

It's a personal descision. Myself, I'd like to see drugs legalized. Who do you want in prison, a harmless person who likes to get high or a real criminal. The government likes to take all the fun away...

People often use "druggie" and "hippie" interchangeably, which I think is unfortunate, because society never tends to take druggies seriously. On individual matters I don't really care, but hippies should remind one of PLUR before LSD.

Personally I'm not for it, but I (Try my best not to) judge people based on that. You don't know why they do it. And saying you don't like it won't stop them anyway XP

I am against drugs, however, for mostly medical resons. I also think there are other ways of reaching aspired states, and I have never considered anything unhealthy and destructive. Try insence; I've just started into my--little--sister's stash, and I find it a good means to give you that extra little spiritual nudge ~.^

Drugs r bad hmkay!

Hoho, looked through this entire thread looking for MY post, and it looks like I just haven't POSTED my post smile Well I'll POST it now. Haha.. word fun.
Yeah, D.A.R.E and other bullshit government programs brainwash kids into thinking black people with cornrows, afros, dreadlocks, are all smoking pot. People with long hair, are smoking pot. Someone in a tyedie t-shirt, is dropping acid AND smoking pot. It learned alot of the quality of the people here in the GHG from just this thread. There are those sticking to the stereotypes, and you MUST do drugs to be a hippie, opinionaters (is that a ******** WORD? D: ) those who look to convince people that you should be free to do what you choose, the whatever, man, opinionaters (theres that word again.) and then, those who aren't even hippies at all (The ones who suggest shooting Nixon in the a**. Not very peaceful, huh?)
When you boil it all down. Alot of drugs are natural. Banning something natural seems kinda odd huh? I personally wouldnt do something like cocaine, or meth, because of their addicting qualities. But the dope is (haha, pun intended), the dangers of any drug, is largely made up by the government. My dare officer last year tried to convince me that weed was physically addicting. And REALLY, you cannot judge all druggies from a small handful. Lots of people do it. Your mom, your uncle, your babysitter, your 3rd grade art teacher (mine was gay too, what a trip!), maybe even your DOG ;o I'm on my soap box now wink
Either way. DRUGS = DO EM IF'N YOU WANT. I'm not gonna decide for ya, neither should anyone else. Don't be forced into something, man.
Do I do pot, no. Have I tried smoking peanut husks to get high? Yes. It doesnt work. So don't try it. Neither does bananas. You'd be amazed at how strict the bacon is on drugs, here. I'm NOT gonna get busted for weed, man xD So if I was to do it, it'd take some convincing of my girlfriend (harhar, second time I've mentioned her in the guild, hmm?) and I'd be outta high school. We get random drug tests like every month come next year. Also, I've already seen a link to www.hippy.com man, that website is the s**t. Skip Stone, the webmaster, has seen it all, man. And if you join the forum, SpreadingFlowers is my name, man wink Now I'm WAY off topic.
And again, do drugs if ya want. Hippiedom is about peace love freedom and respect. Not drugs. Thats the stereotype man. If ya wanna do em, do em, if not, mmkay, no problem. TRIP HARD, FELLOW HIPPIES. lol

i agree that it is your own choice. i bring this up alot, but it never gets old. who's decision should it be to say who should and shouldnt do drugs? certainly we should be free to try what we want. the first and only time i ever got high, was back in april of this year. since the begining of the year, i had been molested by my [ex]boyfriend, and my older brother had just killed himself the week after my birthday. needless to say, i was depressed, anorexic, and severely messed up in the head. i was considering suicide, when my best friend called me because she demanded that i come to her house. so i said 'whatever' and we hung out. we were walking along by the riverbank, when we stumbled across a rather large bag of weed. we smoked a little bit, and got verrrrrry relaxed. the next monday at school, i was able to think clearly, and began to catch up on my work. for the first time in months, i was ok, thanks to weed. mrgreen happy ending: i havent thought of suicide since, im eating healthily, and im pretty much back to my normal self. im not saying that pot is good...well...yes i am. pot is good.

It's not set in stone that a hippie "MUST DO DRUGS." It's a personal decision. My decision was to not do drugs because I wasn't too psyched about the negative side effects, and I haven't really felt a need or an urge to do drugs. I don't condemn people who do them though.

Yes, drugs help you look at things in a diffrent light. Opens your eyes to a diffrent reality.
