Looking over a the Dwarf Kale blushed a bit out of embarrassment. Then putting his rosary away and slugging his shoulders a bit Kale mumbled "I've been scared of spiders since I was small... the eight legged things just...'' Sending shivers down his spine Kale continued to talk, ''They give me the creeps!'' Kale said recalling a memory of waking up once after a previous day of training to find a spider laying its eggs in his lower nose. Then smacking his nose repeatedly Kale shivered with fear of it happening again.

The Dwarf laughed. "Some hardened warrior." He chuckled and shook his head.

"What's your name, son?"

Raelise shifted her weight slightly, but otherwise betrayed no outward sign of her growing impatience. Before this, she wouldn't have believed that a hired sword would show up for a job unprepared, but some of them obviously did. Watching her so-called companions as they looked over the merchandise, she came to a decision; if they weren't ready to leave within a few minutes, she would leave without them. They were certainly welcome to catch up, if they could, but she wasn't going to wait around for them to finish shopping.

Hope finished going over her gear. Everything was in order as she knew it would be. She took a seat next to the door to await further instructions.

Hmm. There was no hiding all those bright colors against the white world outside. And Havicson actually WANTED the bard looking like that? Maybe they were going to use him as bait or something.

Hope shrugged. Not her problem yet. But she was curious as to what the knight had in mind.

[[I was thinking about going into it, but unless its something drastic, I'm going to assume that you have it, for now.

Basics would include things like Flint and Tender, rations, rope, sleeping gear (Or at least a blanket), canteen for water, torches . . . stuff like that.]]

At this time, most of the mercenaries are in the process of leaving. The sun is approaching its Zenith, though through the clouds and snow . . . it is near impossible to tell.

"Very well. I find those terms acceptable." Zywynran decided it would not do to deliberate any longer. One of his companions was already waiting by the door and the other was likely nearly as impatient. Ah, who could have thought traveling with two women could so quickly prove itself to be so terribly lacking in any entertainment value? They were so quiet and dull! Receiving his goods, Zywynran approached Hope. He nodded, but decided to save his breath.

Havicson laughed as he watched the group leave. It was obvious he found something funny about it.

The doors opened up to a light sprinkling of snow, nothing at all to compare to the blizzard the night before.

Holding out his plated glove Kale smiled to the Dwarf, ''Kale, Kale Northren.''

((Sorry for short post quite busy.))

Finally, both of them were moving toward the door. Raelise walked over to join them, her mind still picking away at the implications of the missing dwarves. 12 missing dwarves. Miners. It was nothing if not ominous.

Her thoughts were interrupted briefly by Havicson's laughter, and her eyes automatically shot up to study his face. He was looking at their little group; apparently something about it amused him. As unaccustomed as she was to being the cause of laughter, she didn't take offense or puzzle over it for more than a second or two; it wasn't as though she cared what he thought. Likely as not, he was just found the juxtaposition of the colorful bard and the two hardened mercenaries entertaining.

Assuming her companions would follow, she opened the door and
walked out into the snow.

And Zywynran did follow, somewhat pleased to see that the snow was no longer falling so heavily. But it was still terribly gloomy out here... and so the bard began to sing. What else? Oh, he would have loved to pull his lute from his back and play along, but then how would he carry his pack? And as he did not wish to freeze, starve, get lost in the dark or be abandoned in the bottom of a canyon by his lovely companions, the pack was terribly important.

"Vargen Van Blunderbuss. And the pleasure is all mine. Oh . . . and it appears that you are the third member of our group." Said the dwarf, proceeding to introduce another person, a male who was currently meditating in the corner, dressed in nice monk's robes.

The snow was deep, making travel hard. It would take most of the day to reach the caves.

The cold didn't bother Raelise, but she still didn't want to be stuck in the snow at night. She started off in the direction of the caves, her pace fairly fast by human standards, but by no means unsustainable. They would reach the caves well before dark. Before they arrived, she would have to have her companions list their combat specialties, so that they could better decide what their strategy would be. If they have any combat specialties, she thought dubiously, resisting the urge to glance at the singing bard. Well, better sooner than later; one never knew when one would run into trouble. She pursed her lips, obviously reluctant, and then spoke to the half-elf without taking her eyes from the terrain in front of her. "Can you use that dagger?"

Zywynran had stopped his singing some time ago, though he did intermittently hum to himself. Any sound to drive away the gloom. He was a bit surprised by the elven woman's question, but hesitated not a moment in his response. "I can use all of them, my dear. The one you actually see mostly serves the purpose of preventing the necessity. I am a traveling entertainer with instruments and clothing worth more than I am; it would be most injudicious of me to have no means with which to protect them." Zywynran smiled then, a twinkle in his eye as he turned to face the woman. "But I imagine a simple yes would have sufficed for an efficient warrior of few words and fewer frivolities."
PostPosted: Sun Feb 08, 2009 9:06 pm

The answer to that seemed fairly obvious, so Raelise didn't bother answering. Instead, she came back with another question. "Are they throwing knives, or are you mostly close quarters?" Finally she glanced over into the eyes that were so like her own, her expression cooly appraising. "Exactly how good would you say you are?"

"I have several throwing knives and two more I use in melee. I will not exaggerate my skill; I am no seasoned fighter. I am a bard, first and foremost. But my fighting skill is adequate." His joking expression turned serious for a moment, his smile flattening to an uninspired line. Even his voice, when he spoke again, sounded somewhat dull and leeched of its life. "If you believe nothing else, then believe that I would not be here if I were incapable of defending myself. Much like you, I find myself unused to relying upon strangers for my safety. Most strangers do not have this one's best interests at heart."

And then Zywynran smiled again and made a gesture that most would see as flippant. However his sleeve moved in such a way that, should anyone care to view them, the scars upon his wrist from shackles he'd worn years ago were clearly visible. His wrist was far too slender for an adult human shackle... and to learn such things were even made for children depressed him more than their tight, chafing fit. "How I do go on... Quick, best ask me your next question before I start upon another rambling monologue."
