Looking back at the food line, giving Richard and Gene some privacy, I spotted Baralai and the boy who gave me money. I jumped up from the table. "BE RIGHT BACK!" I practically screamed it. I need to work on that as well. I approached them. "Baralai! Hi cutie pie!" Then I turned to dark eyes. "Hey, thanks for the coffee handsome! I'll pay you back some time! Take care of my little Baralai!" I skipped back at the table. I whispered to the boys this time. "Sorry for yelling."

"I am getting used to it, I think. Slowly." Gene replies to Rae once he swallows his mouthful. Rae was shocking and loud, but that was not so bad. Did he really need any friends as quiet as himself? Rae could be his friend, Gene thought with a small smile. Why not? She seemed to be every bit as eager to meet new people as Richard had suggested.

Sipping on my coffee, I looked over at Gene. "So, sweetie, tell me more about yourself. I through with talking." Or yelling. I nudged Richard, who was already use to my loud, obnoxious behavior. I just hoped Gene didn't mind me so much.

"About myself?" Gene repeats a bit nervously and stalls by having a mouthful of tea. What was there to really say about himself? He was not a very interesting person. "There is not much to tell, really. This is the first school I have attended. Before I was home schooled. So... it is still a little strange here for me." Gene held tightly to the thermos lid and stared into the liquid as he spoke. He did not speak much, so knowing what to say at a time like this just escaped him. "My parents are just much too busy now. So it has to be done. But today was good. I have friends now... Richard and you?"

I looked up at her, "Oh, sorry, I'm in my creative world," I smiled at Gene. I had been thinking about telling them, but I couldn't, could I, what if I slipped up, this is why I genrally steered away from people. "Yeh, tell us about you Gene," I didn't notice how load Rae was being until I noticed a few people turning. I drew a bird coming off of me, very quickly, putting a fork full of salade in my mouth.

I threw my hands up in the air. "YES! OF COURSE!" I laughed, lowering my voice. "You are SOOO sweet, Gene! I know how you feel though," I said with a blush. "I didn't have many friends. People don't seem to like me." I don't really blame them. I was a walking circus show. I smiled, glad to have Richard and Gene by my side.

"Why not? I can understand with me. But you are not so strange." Gene meant it, but of course his definition of strange did not quite match up with that of most people. To him, anyone who could actually hold a conversation without having a spasm of fear was fairly normal to him. Gene found himself distracted by Richard again and he leaned over to see the drawing.

Liz made her way down to the cafeteria her hands were shoved into her pockets and she watched the floor as she walked. Her room had just been pranked again and she was in no mood. neon green paint stained half of her face, neck and shoulders on the left side, it had been washed but not come off of the skin as much as she thought it would. "Lovely." She said threw clenched teeth. It was not uncommon for her to be a target of such tomfoolery, her refusal to fight back or tattle made her an easily mark for any new freshy wishing to prove themselves. She entered the cafeteria and walked threw the line. She bought herself a mug of vegetable soup, and a cookie. After she paid she found a seat at an empty table near the back wall of the large room. She kept her eyes low but the smallest of smiles fluttered across her lips.

"I'm not as normal as you think," I mouthed out quietly. Gene and Richard were really sweet for putting up with me. I wouldn't want them to find out about my little 'talent'. I kept quiet this time, thinking about random things. One of them, where would I be sleeping tonight? I hadn't had enough money for a hotel room for the last couple of days....

An eyebrow rose as the girl covered in neon green paint entered the cafeteria. Swallowing what was left of his pizza, he couldn't bring his eyebrow down. She looks like she's had a bad day. His broad shoulders rose and fell in a shrugging motion, and he tossed his tray into the nearby trashcan. Not before grabbing the apple in his right hand and the tea in his left though, of course. Without hesitance, he made his way to the table the girl was sat at.
A smile flitted across his face as he pulled out a chair and took a seat next to the girl. "Bad day?" A truly curious and sincere expression was present upon his face as he idly munched at his apple.

"Oh. Well. I still like you." Gene says equally quietly. "Richard, too. He said you are great." Of course, Gene realized belatedly, Rae had been right there when Richard had said it. Still, Rae just didn't look that convinced, so maybe she needed to hear it again. Or maybe she was just thinking; she did seem a little distracted. Gene nibbled on pretzels and watched Rae think. Then he stared at Richard's page again. Back. Forth. He was interested in both, but he only had one pair of eyes.

Liz glanced up to see that a boy had taken a seat beside her. She raised her head to look his in the eyes. "Could be worse." She said a joking smile on her face. She was not one for sulking so she leapt easily out of dower moods. "you?" She asked in response her eyes bright and intelligent. She would not let her misfortune captain her relationship with her new friend. She took the lid off of her soup and stirred it with out even looking. Her eyes were still on his.

Connor nodded in acknowledgement with a quiet, muffled chuckle. Not at all tempted to break their eye contact, he swallowed the part of the apple he'd been chewing and shrugged. "Aside from missing my first class in favor of sleep, great." A playful grin spread across his lips and his shoulders shook with soft laughter. Keeping his gaze unto her own, he took another chunk out of his apple.

I blushed, reaching my hand over to place it on Gene's hand. "You're very sweet. Thank you." I leaned on Richard, who was drawing in that wonderous sketchbook of his. I couldn't wait to see my picture in it. Had I been so distracted I didn't hear him say I was great? I should pay more attention. I smiled back at Gene. "Rich is a great artist, isn't he?"

"I like his pictures." Gene agrees with a little smile. "He draws such strange, unreal things. But I like that." Gene had the sudden, very irrational thought that somehow his parents would know what he had just said and they would disapprove. He knew it made no sense, but it still stuck with him for a long moment. It took an effort not to look over his shoulder just to reassure himself that they were not standing and frowning over him. Finally, he did look and was disappointed in himself for it. "I never draw things like that. But I am not very good, so it is better left to others."
