Firrah's eye grew wide with awe, and he nodded solemnly, adjusting his position so that he wouldn't lose his balance and fall from Shemei's back.
"They're dark like me," he murmured softly, smiling to himself.
Once they reached the water and Shemei lay down, Firrah climbed carefully off her back and lay down next to her. He lay on his back, hands clasped peacefully over his chest, knees drawn up over his belly.
"It's warm here," he smiled, closing his eye. "Is it always like this here?"

Shemei shook her head, "No its gold during the winter...but the sun has been warming the sand all day." She smiled and moved to lay at Firrah's feet so he could rest thim on her. "It is very nice here...if we just wait for a wait quietly for a wail I am sure some other animal will come to drink."

Instead of laying his feet on Shemei's back, Firrah turned around and lay on his stomach, his head next to hers, arms and legs sprawled out in the sand.
"What are we?" he asked her curiously, snuggling right up against her body. "Are we animals? Or are we something different?"

Shemei smiles and licks Firrah's head, "Well we are what we are dear..." she said softly, "We are a type of animal yes...but all animals are different." She smiled, "As far as I know we are the only ones that can talk."

Firrah lay his head against Shemei's cheek and smiled.
"Then we're special, aren't we?" he asked her softly, his voice tired now that they had stopped and were lying down. He giggled a bit and looked up at Shemei, then nuzzled his head against her chin. "You're special to me."

Shemei smiled happily at his nuzzling of her. Maybe he was learning to be a bit too much like her. She nodded and nuzzled down against the top of his head. "Yes we are special....and your even more special to me little brother." she smiled and licked his ear.
She was really enjoying this time together with him. It was over all a very good day.

Firrah closed his eye and cuddled against Shemei's side, curling up in a ball with his head on Shemei's arm.
"Do we have to go back?" he asked her sleepily. "Can we sleep here instead? Even just for tonight?"
Maybe they would see some animals ... and he wouldn't have to worry about Casimirio coming to get him again.

Shemei's eyes softened though was a bit worried. "Firrah you will have to face him again some time soon." she said softly. She looked at him. "And it might get too cold..." she turned to look at him and nods, "But we will stay here until you get too cold."

Firrah frowned and snuggled closer to Shemei, his ears folding back against his skull.
"I don't want to be with him," he told her softly, fearfully. "I don't want him to hurt me again ..."
He already couldn't see out of one eye, who knew what else the horrible male would do to him?

Shemei shook her head and sighed, "Firrah...I know it is hard to believe but he will not hurt you like that again..." She sighed and kissed his cheek. "But we will stay here....I want you to be happy."

Firrah rolled onto his back and looked up at Shemei, his one eye filled with anxiety and sadness.
"Why did he even do that, anyways?" he asked her quietly, his tone confused. "I didn't do anything to hurt him ... did I?"
It didn't matter how many times he asked, he would never understand why Casimirio had cut him as he had.

Shemei shrugged, "I do not know dear...it is just how he is...maybe it is a right of passage to see if they are worthy of being of his house hold." She smiled and pulled him under her so she could hold him and give him some warmth. "I am sorry he hurt you...I wont let him again."

Firrah cuddled against Shemei and wrapped his arms around her neck. He trusted her - he believed her. He knew that she would never let anything happen to him ever again.
He yawned, the events of the day catching up to his battered body.
"You're nice and warm," he murmured with a faint smile, closing his eye and holding her tightly. "I think ..."
He yawned again, showing his tiny fangs before licking his lips and nuzzling against Shemei once more.
"I think I'm going to fall asleep soon," he giggled.

Shemei nods, "You just sleep if you feel you need too dear...I will be here when you wake. Still around you and still warm." she licked his face softly and shifted her wait to lay at a nice spot for her and him. She was glad to see he seem happy. And she blushed at the cute little fangs. He was like a scared cub deep inside.

Firrah smiled and rested his head against Shemei, his short arms still wrapped around her neck. As she licked his face, he cracked one eye open and looked up at her.
"You didn't give me a bath yet," he realized quietly, realizing at the same time that her licking his face was helping to soothe the dull ache of the cut down the middle of his face.
