Ethin walked away glumly, hurt and confused. "I left the decision to her - to do whatever she thought was best. Why is she so angry with me? What did I do wrong?" he thought as he returned to the common room.
Ethin filled Esole in on his and Kiae's plans. "Would you like me to accompany the two of you?" Esole asked.
"We discussed that and decided having too many people would scare the man and that's the last thing we want to do. So we planned on carrying out our investigations separately then regrouping and sharing information. How does that sound?" he replied, in a defeated monotone - his mind far from the conversation at hand.
"Of course. That is understandable," Esole responded, nodding with approval. Ethin noticed how civilized Esole was around her family. He would have smiled at the thought had he not felt like things with Kiae were falling apart.
Feeling as thought he accomplished what he was sent to do, Ethin returned to Kiae.
"I did as you asked," he said sadly.

Kiae sighed. She had been hoping Esole and Ethin would actually talk, but that apparently was too much to hope for. She decided to mask the Bond for a bit, in the chance it would calm the two down as they headed down the street. "I suppose we'll go see the guardsman now," she finally said, uncomfortable with the silence.

Ethin nodded and lead the pair away from the inn and in the direction of the guardsman's house. He walked in thoughtful silence, trying to think through Kiae's reaction. "I thought I gave her what she wanted with no pressure from me. Why is she acting this way?" he thought distraughtly.

The Yellow sighed to herself and rested the palm of her hand against her stomach, the gesture hidden by her cloak. If she concentrated, she could feel the life in her and she frowned. "How could I have not realized it?" she berated herself. "All this trouble for a dead man!"
She shook her head, blinking the sudden tears away, and set her jaw. Kiae had thought she knew what she was going to do, but Esole and Ethin's reactions had made her think twice.

Ethin noticed Kiae's face tense out of the corner of his eye. He saw the tears welling in her eyes and his heart panged with remorse over hurting her. He put his arm around her in an attempt to comfort her.

Kiae gratefully accepted the gesture but refused to open the Bond any further. "I'm sorry for causing so much trouble," she said quietly, keeping her gaze trained on the street ahead.

"Don't be sorry. It wasn't your fault. No one knew things would get to be this way," Ethin said, glad that she was at least talking to him.

"I should have," she replied miserably. "I'm supposed to be smarter than to let something so stupid ruin everything I've been working for." She moved her hand back to her side and concentrated on not thinking about it.

"It happens to everyone. How do you think we are all here? I know that I was surely not expected. The Wheel weaves as the Wheel wills. The Creator meant for this to be," Ethin said, reciting what his Mother always told him when he was a boy.

"Light blast the Wheel and bloody Creator, playing games with my life. Aes Sedai witches are supposed to be the ones doing that," she muttered, before glancing up at him nervously. "And when I apologized...it was for the hurt I'm causing, whether I meant to or not." Kiae stared back ahead, turning pale from her emotions.

"I know. Thank you for your apology," Ethin responded sincerely. He felt better knowing she felt guilty about the ordeal. It helped him trust her more and let him open himself up to her again. "We will be okay," he said, putting a reassuring arm around her.

Kiae simply nodded, unsure of what to say and afraid it would come out wrong either way. "I wish things weren't so complicated," she thought sadly, knowing it was impossible to change life and yet wishing she could.

Ethin distanced himself slightly, not quite feeling like Kiae was comfortable with him at the moment and then stopped. "I think this is the place," he announced, gesturing to the small building in front of them.

Kiae nodded and moved forward, knocking on the door sharply. Within minutes, it was opened by a tall blond man who looked a bit worse for wear.
"Excuse me, I can't really have any...oh, pardon me, mi'lady." The man interrupted himself with a smooth bow quickly once he saw who was at the door, and Kiae inclined her head.
"We apologize for bothering you. May we come in for a short while? I have some questions I need to ask you regarding the theft," she said, striding into the room without waiting for an answer. The man looked at Ethin helplessly, unused to Aes Sedai.

Ethin noted Kiae exercising her Aes Sedai supremacy and decided he would maintain the usual intimidating Warder appearance. He walked into the room after Kiae without even acknowledging the man in the doorway who looked absolutely stunned. Ethin stood in the far corner, his hood up, hand on hilt, and stance solid as a rock.
