"Well, if you perfered it if I tried, I would have," August said. Though the guy was being obnoxious, sarcastic, or both, August actually found himself enjoying the conversation. He doubted Gladys was have all to much fun, but still.
Then again, I think I'll pass on popping my arms. He thought to himself.

"Nooooo... I THINK I'm well off enough as it is now, though thank you very generously for the offer." Elliot retorted without the slightest delineation beforehand, wincing lightly as the owner snapped her tape measurer back with a low snap and hurried away again, a small tattered notepad in hand.
"Who are you two? For curiosities' sake, I mean." He raised an eyebrow first at Gladys then at August, waiting in his usual near-constant impatient manner. "Gladys." Gladys responded curtly after a few seconds of silence, shrugging.

"August," August replied. "And what is your name? Or do you perfer keeping it anonymous to strangers?" He had to admit, compared to books, the man was really original. Ignorant, but none-the-less original.

"Elliot." He replied without the slightest inclination that he had heard the statement following the question. "Not Eli, not 'El-ster', 'El-dog', 'El-lo', 'El-bean'- or any other street coloquilism you may or may not deem to think up. It's either EL-LI-OT, El, or Lien." He paused to take the garments the owner had just hurried back with in a surprisingly fluid manner. Of course, if you really thought on it, he would have to be a BIT 'stealthy' to have avoided the attention of the person he was now currently conversating with for as long as he'd managed. "Kay Au-gu-st?

(Since all I can say is sorry sweatdrop )
August blinked when he heard his name being spelled out in syllibles, and didn't bother correcting Elliot with the fact that his name was a two syllible word, not getting the point of his name being spelt out into two letters. His confusion left a momment of hesitance, before quickly gliding the subject somewhat away from personal matters.
"Gladys, have you finished buying your clothes?" he asked, determained to stick to the 'easy-to-understand' part of the human language.
