"Thanks! You moved pretty fast, Naoki," Shin said, returning her shy smile with one that made his dimples come out. Naoki was pretty nice and pretty skilled! Shin had to admire her just a bit at how well she was keeping up with the other students. She was a little new to the academy, but she was having no problem keeping up. It felt like she was almost stronger than Shin was. He hadn't really been training all that hard though. Maybe he should start working harder and paying attention. Paying attention. As Shin went over that thought, he snapped to attention to see if Naoki was already throwing the ball and she was. It was already up in the air coming back down to Shin. It was a little slow, but Shin was thankful! Quickly, he moved out of the way of the ball and avoided being hit. "Whew," he sighed and turned to go pick up the ball.

As he rolled the ball around in his hands, Shin decided that he wanted to learn a bit more about Naoki! "Say, Naoki-chan! What country did you come from? I came from the Earth Country. My uncle recommended me to Shimagakure, so that's how I'm in the academy. What about you? How did you get here?" Shin asked the girl as he swapped the ball around into his left hand to throw another shot-put style throw at her. He hadn't really been thinking about his strength or how hard he was throwing. Shin was thinking of where Naoki had come from, already trying to guess which country it was. He was thinking somewhere peaceful like the Tea country! Absent-mindedly, the ball flew through the air towards Naoki, moving pretty fast and not as high as the previous thrown ball.

Naoki smiled slightly at Shin's question. No one had asked her that, she had to give him credit. "I came here from the Water Country," she answered, trying to keep her voice calm. Her memories there weren't entirely pleasant. "My family and I moved around a lot when I was younger. Then, one day...well...one day my parents were killed. I wondered around for a while, then the owner of a local orphanage found me. I stayed there for about seven years or so, then the owner suggested I come here when I started asking a lot of questions about the ninja." She shrugged helplessly, knowing that there wasn't much to her story. "I didn't even know I was an Uchiha till the other day." So caught up was she in trying to tell her story without stuttering, she failed to notice that Shin had thrown the cannonball, and not in the more gentle underhand style like he had last time. Her eyes widened, and she tried to move out of the way, but was too late. It struck her already hurt shoulder. Thinking quickly, she turned with it, making the damage a little less severe. Still, tears formed in her eyes at the pain, though she didn't let out a single whimper. She took a few moments to collect herself and blinking away her tears before she turned back around, a shaky smile on her face. "That was a good throw, Shin-san," she said encouragingly, disliking how her voice shook slightly. However, she forced herself to continue on, hurrying after the cannonball without reaching for her shoulder and alerting Shin to her pain.

Picking up the cannonball, she tested her shoulder gingerly with its weight, only to wince. That wasn't going to work. Instead, she used her other hand to throw the ball. However, her other arm wasn't as strong, and she was distracted. The cannonball was going moderately fast, but not very high. Naoki doubted that it would hit Shin. Looks like they were going to be the last two to finish, if she had to guess. Sighing slightly, she felt a little down. She wasn't as strong as the other students, that much was obvious.

"Aaaarg!!" Shuga groaned as she stretched her arms over her head. She was walking up on the academy now. The walk to the little school seemed longer than usual, but Shuga supposed that it was just because she was hungry! The Tategami woman could hear the sounds of little voices coming from the classrooms of the academy. None of them sounded very fierce at the moment, but that was probably because soft Yuki was teaching them. Walking in through the doorway, not really trying to conceal her presence, Shuga's golden eyes looked over the little tykes throwing balls at one another. When Shuga taught it was stones and she was the one doing the throwing! There was a little Ibazi girl, a Kun Kumo, an Orochi... Naoki was that new Uchiha and then a bunch of odd balls. Shuga walked past the new teacher and Yuki waving her hand in the air. "Don't mind me," she said, moving over to window to lean up against. "I'm just watchin'," she explained, keeping her eyes on the tall skinny boy and the dark skinned boy who were training. She was here on a recruitment mission to see if anyone was worthy of becoming a Tategami. Kore and Ruha both needed partners and it was best to partner them up when they were young so that they could grow and bond together.

"Water Country," Shin said, looking up to the ceiling as he tried to think about something he knew about the water country. However, he didn't know much. He had never met merchants from the Water Country or anything. It was pretty far away from the Earth Country. While Shin was looking up and thinking after he threw the ball, he hadn't realized just how hard he threw it until he heard its padding smack against Naoki and whirl her around. "Ah! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to throw it so hard," Shin said, feeling a little guilty as he heard the shaky tone in Naoki's voice. Her story was pretty sad and now he had just whacked her with a ball. While Shin was apologizing, Naoki threw the ball back. Shin easily avoided he, but he still felt guilty that maybe he had brought something up that Naoki wasn't too fond about talking. He tried to think optimistically as his hand reached out to grab the ball in a catch as it went past him.

Holding the ball in both his hands, Shin tried to imagine what it would've been like to lose your parents when you were only 4 or 5. "Ah, that must've been hard Naoki-chan," Shin said softly with a low tone, which was completely different from his normal one. The Nara couldn't think about being with out his family since they were his closest friends. All he did was travel around with his mother and father until coming to the academy. He hadn't been particularly excited on joining a shinobi school, but his parents were excited for it, so he thought he would give it a try. "What made you interested in shinobi?" he asked at a lighter note, his voice giving a bit of a spring with his question. Shin couldn't imagine what kind of shinobi influence would be around while in an orphanage, so he was a little curious. "Here it comes!" Shin warned her, as he pulled back his hand to throw the ball back to the girl, while trying to keep a smile on his face and positive thoughts in his mind. As he watched the ball soar, he felt that he had thrown it too hard once again. "Ah!" he yelled in warning, hoping that Naoki would pick up on the fact that he had thrown it hard again, but not on purpose.

Yuki listened to the exchange of words between Shisei and Tanu. She let out quite a sigh as she read into those underlying meanings of their words. Yuki was an adult and shinobi among other things. Their insults had cooled down and she noticed that their tempers did as well. At least something was changing about the way they were training. Deep down inside, Yuki felt that the words they were saying sarcastically were somewhat true in some weird twisted dimension.
"What are you doing here?" she asked Shuga as the woman casually walked past her.

(The dice hate me...)
Startled by Shin's suddenly different tone, Naoki looked at him more closely. Her own voice was soft and thoughtful as she answered, "Memories, mostly... I remembered my father practicing with his kunai, and even creating a dragon out of water once." Naoki sighed softly. "I don't think he could use his skills with fire techniques... We were hiding from someone, and I've always assumed that they would reveal him somehow..." So bound up in her memories, she didn't notice when Shin threw the ball, till he cried out. She noticed just in time for the metal to hit her injured arm. This time, she couldn't help crying out.

Shisei’s eye sight was still feigning on him. Luckily the sight of two of his opponent gave him the power to try and strike both at once. His heart was pumping irregular and the sweat was literally getting beat out of him. His mind did not even notice the strain and stress in his arms from tossing the cannon ball with silent rage for the afternoon. There were only two things he knew. His body was in pain and the opponent wasn’t in enough pain.
Fatigue was beginning to make his mind sway from the objective. As the girl began to speak falsehoods, Shisei began to wonder what this exercise would have been like if was doing it with Kei. Would he still be in this same situation with the freckle faced student? Would he come to hate her as much as he hated the little imp in front of him? Where was that girl now anyways? His mind continued to lose focus until a bellow made him return to this world.
There was a new person. A woman. A muscular one at that. Her dark and dusty skin was etched with muscles that could make men quiver. She was taller than the medical woman, but still had a womanly figure. It was just compressed with muscle. Her eyes and hair were a sunset gold which contrasted from Shisei’s, whose gold was like the sun at its highest peak in the sky.
Her choice color of clothing was white, similar to another student in class, but more revealing. Her bosom was kept in check by a white vest. The vest seemed to be failing at its job. She had some very low cut white shorts with a thick belt around her hips. The woman’s hands also were covered in gloves and a thin line of trinkets. It was weird because her brown feet had no type of footwear. “That’s just like…” the boy began to think. Wasn’t there someone else he had seen with such similarities?
“In front of you!” A part of the boy’s mind reminded him that there was a short, jagged hair demon in front of him. His pupils came back in time to see a black sphere hurtling towards him as if divine might were pressed behind it. His mind still had enough sense to try and evade the dangerous artillery. His legs began to drop beneath him. With luck the cannon weight would just go across Shisei’s head. Luck would not be with the Orochi child today.
Instead the steel snapped against his forehead. The serpent boy’s brain and skull vibrated within his head. The power and force behind the sphere not only reflected off of Shisei’s head like it was made of light rubber, the ivory child himself was sent off his feet. Purple dreads cracked off the back of the floor as the momentum kept the rest of his body moving. This resulted in Shisei haphazardly tumbling back a few feet. Each time his head and body made a blood curling thud among the hard surface.
Once his body came to a stop the boy realized he was on his back. He figured it out because his amber pupils could see the rest of his classmates upside down. The two groups were still playing this risky game of dodge ball with smiles on their faces. The tall stick, known as Shinobu, and the green eye girl conversing. Karite parrying with some gaudy moves.
The serpent child noticed three things. They were enjoying themselves. They were not trying to injure one another. Shisei didn’t mind his deadly game with the more boy than girl, Tanu. He actually preferred it. Wasting time laughing was not what he wanted. This serious fight between the two was better. Still the third thing the snake student noticed is what angered him the most. He was the only one that got knocked down. His body was the first to fall.
As the images displayed by his eyes became singular again, Shisei stared at the ceiling. His mind was thinking about a few things, but in the end it came to one conclusion.
“This sucks…”

Gritting her teeth, Naoki forced herself to take deep breaths. I will not cry... I will not cry... she kept repeating mentally, though it didn't help much. She was an eleven-year-old girl, and she was hurting. It was only natural for a few tears to well up, and Naoki was far too much of a weakling to resist the urge to let a few of them fall. However, she sniffed and wiped them away quickly. "I'm alright," she said to Shin, refusing to submit to the deep ache settling in her arm. "It's just a bruise, it'll stop hurting here in a few minutes." Hopefully, she mentally added.
True to her words, the ache did die down after she let her arm rest for a moment. She hurried after the cannonball Shin had thrown, being sure to pick it up with her other hand. It was getting harder and harder to throw these things, as each turn passed. She hadn't hit Shin in a long time, and it wasn't helping her spirits. For the first time, she had been the first to finish an exercise. Now it looked like she was going to be last again, and she was slowing Shin down with her. This time, the ball arched high as she threw it, though it didn't seem to have as much speed as Shin's last throw.

The boy got up slowly. First to one knee and then the rest of his body arched up. "Amazing Tanu. You augmented both power and accuracy within one throw. As a shinobi your future is sure to be successful." he stated while keeping his uncaring expression. This time his words were harder to say, even though they were all lies.
The vile creature caught him good that time. Shisei’s head instantly got a headache. Luckily the pain and Yuki-sensei’s intrusion before managed to quell his anger and clear his mind. If his state was from a few minutes ago then surely Shisei would have gotten back up and just pelt the ball like a javelin. The situation may have flowed differently, but at least now he could try and figure out what was going on.
The first thing that his brain told him was that he would be the first to fall in this contest. As much as the snake child was avoiding the thought his mind was that of an analyzer. Even though his accuracy and precision managed to attain a few good hits, brute force would be the winner. Still the question is what to do? This is where the conflict in Shisei’s mind began and tore at him. More than the pain in his body.
Basically it came down to three possibilities. “The first choice….” He could continue this war and suffer the consequences. Most likely in the next attack or two if he could not dodge would be the end. His strength would not allow his skeleton to get back up. And if his will forced him back to his feet then there would definitely be detrimental damage. Shisei didn’t mind that. He’d gladly do it if his opponent was on his…her…, what ever it maybe, last legs. It would probably still take a greater amount of blows to knock her down. Of course for him to lose by his enemy’s hands would be just what they wanted. A knockout would be the ideal situation for his adversary. How did Shisei know this? Because if the tables were turned he’d kept flinging cannonballs till there was nothing left. Till the enemy, especially this foe was out cold and hurt. “In that aspect we're both the same….”. Shisei quickly swept that thought out of his mind. The last thing he wanted was to have any remote similarities to the little imp in front of him. He continued contemplating his choices.
“My second choice…” That one would be intervention. If one of the teacher’s became involved again, it would give him a breather or actually save him from another harsh landing to the floor. The major problem with that was easy. Save. When had Shisei ever needed saving? He didn’t need it as a child in the Orochi village. He didn’t need it when he usurped to that outsider’s village. He never needed assistance from his sister. He never needed it from his so called ‘father’. He never needed it from his mother… nor did she ever give it. To take a graceful hand of rescue now? From people he’s known for only a few hours. That would be a slash against his pride that would hurt as much as his body. Bones can heal with time, but could his pride ever heal from that if someone were to step in?
“The final choice…” The one that would also halt a physical defeat, but might be the greatest defeat towards him self would be to yield. Submit to the foe ahead of him. Three simple words could end it. I give up. It could even be two. I give. Yet how hard it is to even mutter them from anyone’s mouth? And for Shisei, the thought was treason and punishable by death to his mind. Of course his lips could spin out words that would make it seem like he had the upper hand. Still he might be able to fool everyone else in this room, but the serpent youth could not fool himself.
So now it came down to what he wanted to lose more. Like choosing between an arm and a leg. Either way will be unfavorable. Shisei would suffer humiliation either way. An audience of peers and teachers had been watching his performance and no doubt he was on the failing side. This would be the part in Shogi where someone says ‘checkmate’
The only question was could he risk physical health and permanent damage? More importantly could he allow the opponent to have their win in this physical competition of who could withstand the most pain? Or could he swallow his pride and allow someone else to step in, which may end their match in a draw with no true victor? Then finally could his lips and voice box utter words that would erase his integrity and self important honor.
Shisei’s mind was analyzing every equation and aspect of this situation. He had to do it quickly too. There was only a few seconds before an undesired choice might be made for him.

Karite saw where the ball landed and bit his lip a little. That was not what he wanted to happen at all and it seemed like it wasn't his fault but he couldn't help but to feel bad. Picking up the ball he would hold his apologies till later. He didn't know if Akiko would be to accepting at the moment. Looking around he noticed another women he had never seen before had joined Misses Yuki. She reminded him a little of Maya with he rough brawny style. She looked like she had been through war after war by the way her skin looked. It also seemed she spent much time outside. Remembering when he was on the grounds for the short moment in time during the festival he remembered a small tent and a large tent. She might be the owner of that large tent.
Looking back at Akiko he smiled and nodded accepting her response as a lets finish this. Spinning the ball in his hand he made sure he had a clear feel of the ball. Breathing in deeply closing his eyes he paused a second before opening them and exhaling. His silver lifeless eyes locked onto Akiko as he spun in a full circle and launched the ball directly at her. When he released the ball Karite was much lower to the ground then he had ever been and this ball was moving faster then any he had thrown.

Akiko wondered why Karite hadn’t thrown the ball yet, not that she was in a rush to possibly get hit again, but what had been taking him so long. She guided her distracted eyes from her arm to look at Karite; he seemed to be busy with his own observation of a new woman that entered the room. Another observation she would have to do later, she noticed her partner spinning with the ball in hand.
The sphere was moving in with great swiftness, Akiko concluded that Karite had received his second wind also. As the solid metal closed in the lean girl attempted her dodge, she began stepping to the right, the ball bashed into her left arm. Seconds after the hit Akiko’s attention was settled on her new pain, her hand giving small caresses to the injured limb. “Nice throw.” She said as she chased after the ball, it was a very nice throw, she felt lucky to move enough before feeling it’s full effect.
The girl slowly approached her green haired peer, the ball in hand. “So now what?”

“Chances are low….” Shisei contemplated to himself. The analysis had been done. No matter how many times the gears in his head shifted the information formed came out to the same results. What would be the natural thing a normal person would do in this type of situation? For some reason the serpent youth began to wonder what would the rest of his peers do in this situation. The girl, who would rather keep her face hidden away within her hood. Kei, the one who boldly faced that leviathan. The others? What would they do? Probably the sensible, rational thing. Something Shisei would usually do. For only a second a small smile grew while his tongue quickly flickered over his upper lip.
“You’ll be as successful a ninja as that jungle woman. You’re such a naïve brat Tanu-kun. You can’t see or hear what everyone knows about you. You’re blind and death to the truth. I’ll be kind and enlighten you on one thing. Whatever the outcome of this match, you cannot defeat me Tanu-kun.” the boy said without any anger in his voice. The words he stated sounded more of a lecturing tone rather than a malignant insult like previous. His lips had already returned to a thin line making his face emotionless again. The boy raised his head higher to look down upon the irritating foe. If the kind teacher reprimanded him with strict words then hopefully that could be alleviated later.
It would seem as if Shisei had found some undiscovered truth. Many probably would not understand his words, but that didn’t matter to him. All that mattered is that he knew what they meant and his next move. So the serpent boy picked back up the ball and used his golden orbs to aim. Even if it meant injury. Even if meant death…. If that scenario did happen all it meant to the boy was that he reached his limit in this world. Even if the foe would attain victory now… it wouldn’t be forever! Shisei couldn’t let himself turn away and throw in the towel to someone punier than him. He wouldn’t live down this day if his body lost, but if his mind lost to this person that would be defeat he could never recover from. So if this Tanu person managed to beat him today all that meant for Shisei is he would have beat her eight times the amount. A streak against her that was 99%.
The pale hands and nails took up the dark orb. His vision was still blurry and arms were not holding the ball as stiff like before. Shisei remembered teacher Yuki’s words and would try that same maneuver again. The amber pupils took in his foe’s chin as the new target, from where he hit last. His palms then lobbed the ball at Tanu’s shoulder. The eyes had the perfect setup, but the arms were not as cooperative. His last fall took most of flare out of his body. Still. As long there was a bit of light left, Shisei would keep on going.
