You're just better off paying someone else to cast the spell for you. You can get the same effect without mangling your character build.

assuming someone learns it, and then casts it for me XD (granted, NPCs are handy for that, but...)

i've got time to figure out what to do, though
Get me the scroll and the inks and you've got a deal. XD

Okay, I have the free RP section up. I'll add more locations as time goes. Feel free (haha) to poke around there and play while adventures are being whipped up.

So... someone help me understand something about clerics. Clerics, at any time, can substitute a cure spell for an already prepared spell instead?

So... I don't *have* to take the healing domain to be able to heal (so long as I'm of a good alignment)

Mhm, that's correct. But, taking the Healing Domain will make your Healing spells better. So if you wanna focus on being a better Healer, it's a good choice.

Ahh... well hm. What sort of benefits do you have if you pick a deity? Cause that's what I've been trying to do. Pick a deity. X_O I might change Healing for Chaos in terms of domains instead.

Well, proficiency in the god's chosen weapon, and their sponsorship. It isn't unrealistic for a cleric to occasionally receive unbidden assistance from a deity on occasion.

Ahh... *nods* Though then again, that requires your deity to *have* a specialized weapon. Hm. There isn't another way to get the Healing proficient w/o taking the Healing Domain, is there? ~le sigh~

Not really. Of course, some Prestige Classes let you pick up multiple Domains later on. And you could always design a Prestige Class, too. If it's something you really wanted, you can get it.

orly? How so? o.o

So I'm assuming, Prestige classes are classes you multiclass in *after* you've got a few levels under your belt in general? Or can you design something that you can be at lvl 1? o_O Tell me moar! This sounds... interesting.

But ja, I need moar help. XD If the deity I'm *thinking* of doesn't even have a favored weapon to pick from, is it still worth picking the deity instead of going ronin?

You're pretty close to on the money there. Prestige classes are later, higher level classes that you can take to specialize your character, to get specific benefits, or just because they're awesome. They can be associated with a particular class, a couple classes (like divine spellcasters), specific races, or just about anyone. For example, the Shifter prestige class enhances the Druid's ability to Wild Shift into many more forms, but is really only available to druids while many of the more fighting oriented prestige classes can be taken by any class.

All prestige classes give some benefits that (usually) aren't available to characters of the normal classes, like specific extra feats, supernatural abilities, and whatnot. It's useful, when planning a character, to see if there's a prestige class you're interested in and to then try and aim your character's skills and/or feats towards it. All prestige classes have some requirements to get into. Most of them require at least some combination of a certain base attack bonus, skills, and feats. They might then have other requirements, like being a certain alignment (or not a certain alignment), being a certain race, or having an ability specific to a couple classes, like barbarian raging or turning undead. It's important to look at the requirements and see where to take your character.

One thing to keep in mind for spellcasters is that they do not actually gain levels in their normal classes while taking levels in prestige classes. This means, unless otherwise stated, that they will not advance their spellcasting abilities at all. They won't get new spells, nor will they become more powerful with the ones they have. Most (though not all) of the spellcaster prestige classes have a column when listing the abilities the class gives them that says "Spells per day/Spells known." This chart then details at what levels of the prestige class the character effectively gains a level in their original spellcasting class (or the spellcasting class of their choice, if there's more than one of a given type). This can say Arcane spellcaster, meaning a wizard or sorcerer, a Divine spellcaster, meaning clerics and their ilk, or it might not specify, in which case, it can apply to either. Thus, you might want more special abilities in a prestige class, but you'll usually have to lose some spellcasting ability to get them. On the other hand, a prestige class with full spell advancement won't normally have as many or as powerful other things as classes that give up their spells.

Help clear things up?

Also, one quick question: Anyone remember exactly how many spells a wizard starts with in their spellbook. I took a look through and couldn't find it. That's basically all that's holding me back from having a finished character.
