*her face red from anger turned to flushed from embarrassment and stupidity from not slipping them further into the pocket sewn into the shirt sleeve. she twists her left wrist in the shackle a little bit and the remaining three picks slide into the palm of her hand.*
"I never stole that ring. I told you, it's rightfully mine." She says again curtly. She stares at him as she manuvers the picks into her hand properly.
"I would apprieciate my 'bauble' as you so tactlessly called it, back...." she paused grinding her teeth a bit before finishing the sentance, ".... please."

Taking the picks, Baxter flashes another sarcastic smile, "Rightfully yours...I'm sure." The sarcasm in his voice made it evident that he didn't believe what she said, nor did he care. He dropped the rind into her open palm.
"In any case, you'll ave plenty of time to think of many things. The first and foremost thought on your mind should be what is to become of you when the Captain returns to the ship"
Dr. Baxter looked around the operating room. He left for a few minutes and returned with a pale of water and a rag.
"Your first task is to clean the floor up. I want all of the blood cleaned up and fresh sand around the table BEFORE more wounded arrive." said Baxter, tossing the rag at the woman.
He turned to the crewmember he had assigned to watch over her, "Make sure she tends to her chores, I'll check back later. Do Not leave her unattended." The doctor put his pistol back into his belt and left the crewmember with the pistol he had loaned him.
"Now if you'll both excuse me, I'm a busy man with much to do. Ta."

*She glares at him as him as he sarcasticly attacks her claim of the ring being hers. She practically snatches the ring from him as he drops it into her hand. She bit her lip tightly at the ballsy attitude of this Doctor. Not wanting to look like fool again, she bit her lip harder than say anything that would get her into trouble. The last thing she wanted was more work to do.
Then the Doctor's next words struck her numb.
"What is going to happen to me?" a bit of shock hit her a moment, marginally wiping the glare from her eyes and a temporary glassy expression waved over her. A theif, no matter how well skilled, cannot swim with legirons and shackles. The idea did NOT sit well with her. She didn't snap back to until she heard the clattering and sloshing of a pail of water and the Doctor reentering the room.
She focused her dark green eyes upon him. They never left him as he informed the crewman what her duties were to be, barely catching the rag as he threw it at her. She watched the Doctor leave the medical deck and still stood there a moment, watching the door intently before the crewmember barked out her orders again, bringing her back to her senses.*
"You 'eard the Doctor! Get on da floor an' scrub da dried blood" he waves the pistol towards a particularly large area.
*She knelt on the floor and set to the arduous task of cleaning the floors while the crewmember propped himself up against the wall, watching her scrub the floors. *
"That arrogant b*****d..." she mumbles to herself as she starts working.
*Twice the pail had to be changed of the bloody water before she had the floors all cleaned. The crewmember had them changed for her by another shipmate so as to obey the Doctor's orders. She wiped the sweat off her forehead before slowly getting up and starting on the chore of cleaning up the sand.
In the corner of the room she found a broom and began sweeping the floor and around the table to prepare laying down the new sand. As she begins to scatter the sand on the floor near the table to complete these chores, the crewmember taps the wall with the pistol to get her attention.*
"Oi, Missy.... you missed a spot o're 'ere" She looks up and sees him pointing to a near miniscule spot on the floor. "Guess you'll be needin' more of dis..." shoves another bucket of water across the floor. "Get to it dere... You've got tha whole floor ta be cleanin'..."
*Her eyes widen and glares at him. Fuming, she grabs the pail, slams it down beside the spot, and starts on the one stain, muttering a slew of curses under her breath*

Walking back in the operating room and was a bit surprised to see this woman still scrubbing the floor. He didn't understand why she was still scrubbing though as the floor was clean. In fact it was cleaner than when he first came aboard. He then looked over at the crewmember he had left in charge of her to see him sneering with sick pleasure, and he pieced it together pretty quickly.
He knelt down in front of the woman, and he spoke to her once more. This time in a considerably softer tone than when they had first met. "The deck look good. As soon as you get fresh sand laid down, we shall move onto your next task." The doctor paused to organize his thoughts for the next bit. "About our first meeting; while it wouldn't have gone too much differently, I do apoligize as I may have been unecessarily rude."
He then looked up at the crewman who was still grinning. "And you, wipe that disgusting little smirk off of your face. She is a prisoner, but she is to be treated humanely. She is not your slave."
"B-but s-" the crewman started.
"But nothing, would the Captain except this sort of behavior from his crew. Remember, your actions reflect back on him, as do mine. We must conduct ourselves accordingly so not to dishoner him."
"Y-yes, sir." He stammered.
Dr. Baxter then Began organizing his tools once more to prepare for the next round of wounded sailors that would come through. He then addressed the woman once more.
"As soon as you get the sand laid your to come above deck and help the crew prepare the ship to recieve wounded."

*She was still furious with her predicament when the doctor came back in to inspect her work. So as he knelt down to talk to her, she was taken aback a little at the gentleness in his tone when he spoke. Staring at the floor, she quickly thought of all the curses and comments she had been thinking of saying when next they met. Instead of uttering a word, her face became slightly flushed and continued to stare at the floor.
It wasn't until she heard him repremanding the crewman that she looked up and watched him. A small smile crossed her face as he dressed down the crewman before him.
"Good, that jerk got his... I thought I was going to have to clean this whole area again!" she thought as she tossed the rag back into the bucket and got up to sweep the area and started to lay the sand at the table again.
Looking up at the doctor again at his last order, she said politely*
"I'm not that good with wounded but,.... yes Doctor,.... I will be there shortly." and she set out to finish her work.

"Well, you'll have little contact with the wounded. Just come above and you'll be helping to clean the deck clean. Moving things out of the way, cleaning up blood as people are moved, that sort of thing."
As he finished reorganizing his instruments, he started to walk away again, then stopped in front of the crewman he assigned to watch after her. "Do not leave her unattended, but remember what I said about how your to treat her."
He didn't wait for an answer. He went back on the maindeck to see to the final preparations.

*After laying the sand around the table, she grabbed the broom and bucket with rag. She walked over to the crewman and and awaited him to escort her to the maindeck. He squinted a little at her, inspecting her once over due to her second conversation with the Doctor. She merely sneered back at him before walking out the door and he followed up behind her, closing the door to the medical deck*

Bringing Miss Ares into the operating room, he places her on the table. He then went into his quarters grabbed the open bottle of Brandy and handed it to her.
"Drink some of this, it will numb the pain. I'm going to have to feel around inside your would to make sure there is no permanent damage."
He then removed the temporary dressing the Captain had made and poured some alcohol into the wound as well as soaked his hands in alcohol. He then stuck two fingers into the wound and pulled it open so that he might get a better look at the inner workings of Miss Ares.

*she grabs the bottle and drinks some, takes a second gulp, and spits it out, stifling a scream as the doctor opens her wound. Her body involuntarily convulses in an attempt to get away from the doctor. She chokes out a few words to the doctor* The bullet....is still...in my shoulder....

"I'll tend to that next. First I've got to get this sword wound mended."
As the doctor rooted around in Miss Ares' abdomen, the only thing he found was that a vein had been severed. Luckil it was close to the surface of the wound so it was easy for him to sew back together.
"I do say, you are a very lucky woman. Well, as lucky as one who was stabbed or shot could be. The blade only severed a small vein which I have repaired, and barely nicked your stomach, which will heal on it's own. Other than that, the blade only cleaved muscle and flesh, which must heal on it's own, as well. You'll not be capable of many strenous activities for awhile, especially after having lost so much blood. You'll have to eat and drink as much as possible to rebuild your strength. Don't gorge yourself, just eat several times throughout the day."
Dr. Baxter then stitched the wound shut from the stomach side. He then proceeded to with a set of clamps to dig the musket ball out of Miss Ares' shoulder. As he dropped the ball onto his tray, it made a metallic clink. He then pressed on her shoulder.
"Hmm, this isn't good, the ball seems to have fractured you your shoulder,. This means you shouldn't move this arm unless necessary. It will be fine in about a month, I'd say"
Dr. Baxter then bandaged the shoulder, and he did his best to immobilize her arm.
"Now, I need you to roll onto your side so I can mend your back from where you were stabbed."

((It does seem kinda out of character for you. But that's alright. I get the point))
*she tries rolling over, but to no avail. She was too weak from losing so much blood. She looked to the doctor for assistance.* You're gonna have to help me, doctor... *she had given up and swallowed her pride, and asked for help.*

Dr. Baxter gently tucked his hands under Miss Ares and lifted. He slowly got her rolled onto her side so that he could work on her back. As he did on the wound in the abdomen, he inserted his fingers and spread the hole in her back apart to see that all was well. Again, to his surprise, Nothing vital was damaged when she was run through. It seemed that she bled so much due to her sheer stubborness to continue on. Her adrenaline kept blood pumping through the vein and minor vessels that were severed by the blade. He sutured the wound on her back.
He then sat her up so he could bandage both wounds. He also tightly wrapped a compress around her abdomen.
"I think that should about do it. If you feel something wrong other than the pain you feel now, if it should worsen or you feel something change, do tell me."
He picked Ares up and returned to the deck of the ship, where he sat her down so she might rest there.

The doctor had brought down two people to patch up as best he could. He got the first on the table and was just about to start operating on him. Before he could start however, the sailor began to shake and sieze violently. The doctor tried to hold him down but was thrown accross the room. The doctor managed to get up just in time to see his patient fall off of the table and land limp on the floor.
The doctor squeezed the bridge of his nose in frustration. "Get him out of here. Drop him in the mainsheet." The doctor said in a tone that was angry, but sad at the same time.
Two crewmembers brought in the other man in and the doctor set to work on him after resterilizing his tools.

((Sterilization? Whoah, you're hi-tech here. Didn't come into common use until about the time of the Civil War, though the more forward-thinking used it before then. Thank you, Pasteur.))
