"Thanks, that's why I'm plagarizing it." She winked at the girl and gave her shoulders a squeeze. "So, are you sufficently cheered up for me to yell at you for climbing up and down cliff faces without safety equipment?"

A laugh escaped her lips as she pushed away with a mock glare. "Hey, what about you?" Amaya flexed her claws and toes with a grin. "I've got built in kleats now."

"As do I," Greer wiggled her taloned toes, "and they're damned sharp and make me very glad most of my legs are armored now. But claws or no, cliff climbing is very dangerous. As a pseudo-parental figure it is my job to worry over your physical safety. Even if you are very good at it."
She attempted to look serious and chastizing. She was too cheerful to pull it off.

Not knowing what to really say, Amaya settled to sticking her large, iguana-like tounge out of her mouth at her before hiding it once more. "Sorry, this is just a nice place to hang out and think. The rocks are nice 'n warm too."

Greer sighed, not knowing enough about how to be forceful to be able to win the arguement. "Just be careful, okay? No unnecesarry risks." She ruffled the girl's hair again, grinning. "Lovely tongue."

"Yes m'am." Amaya nodded and kicked her feet slightly, frowning at mention of her tongue. "I hate it. It's big 'n yucky and I can taste emotions." That was only the second time she admitted to someone about her new ability.

Greer cocked her head, trying to puzzle through Amaya's pronouncement. When no answers came to mind she gave up and asked her question. "What do you mean you can taste emotions?"

"... I dunno." Amaya shrugged and looked up at her. "I can't explain it." She flicked out her tounge, trying to taste Greer's emotions.

The entomologist's mind raced, trying to solve this odd little puzzle. She knew next to nothing about lizards, but if she had to hazard a guess based on insects... "It might have something to do with pheremones and the like. Or more persiration meaning fear. Hmmm. Have you done any research?"

She shook her head quickly. "I saw a book on lizards in the entertainment center but I was too scared to pick it up." Amaya looked down, ashamed.

Sliding a feathered hand under Amaya's chin, Greer gently lifted the girl's gaze up to hers. "That's okay - I imagine not everyone is comforted by research the way I am. I'd recommend taking a look at it, though. Knowing what to expect can be a lot nicer than drowing in a million what ifs."

Greer smiled. "You don't have to if you don't want to, it's only a suggestion." Brushing hair out of Amaya's face, she put on her best listener look. "Why does learning about your animal worry you so much?"

"... I dunno." Amaya shrugged, looking down at her lap. "It should'nt as much as it does, but I can't seem to even look at the cover of the lizard book because it scares me that that's what I'mma be one day?" It was more of a question the an answer as she looked back up at Greer.

Greer sighed, closing her eyes for a moment. It was bad enough fearing the loss of your humainty: she couldn't imagine also worrying about the type of creature she was turning into. "It might be, or it could just be the understandable fear of not being human anymore. Goodness knows that little thought's been giving me some nightmares lately."
