Mr. Gregorovich looked at her, expectant for obvious questions. That was how teachers worked. Usually, a person would ask an obvious question about something already covered, and he would have to go back and re-elaborate. It was a boring task, but he was used to it after teaching here.
Suddenly, things grew very interesting. He blinked at her question and then looked at the necklace, walking over and picking up the necklace, looking at the ruby-colored crystal, speaking softly as he walked back towards the front of the room.
"Only one way to find out..."
He then reached out and grasped the book that was on fire, the flames moving away from his hand, fading away as he opened the book. For a moment, flames boiled out of the book, but he calmly reached out his hand, the flames subsiding and dying at his command. Unchecked, the flames would continue burning and boiling out of the book, destroying everything, until either the book was closed or a powerful Fire Elemental commanded the flames to stop. Someone who knew the secrets. Someone who was a rogue fire elemental, dangerous in all aspects. He knew he was in that category, but he was committed to teaching, not to destruction and death, like some of his comrades by definition.
He calmly took the crystal and held it over the book, watching it closely as he whispered a word, so silent that nobody but himself could hear it. The crystal began to glow as he spoke, and he calmly let go of the crystal, watching. It, along with the necklace, floated above the book. His hands shaking, he grabbed the crystal and then closed the book, the flames boiling on the cover once more.
Mr. Gregorovich calmly turned to look at Ayla, walking over and setting the necklace down on her desk.
"Indeed, this is one of fire crystals. I don't have any idea how you got your hands on it, and I don't think I particularly want to know. However, if you wish, I will teach you how to use that crystal to its fullest. Your power will be magnified a hundredfold. However, you must tell no one of these lessons. Not even the Headmaster. Not even a representative of the Fire Consulate, should one come peeking around. Do you understand? I can teach you, but teaching you would be very much against the London Convention, and therefore if you wish to learn this, then you shall have to keep it quiet. If anyone found out that I knew the great secrets required to harness that crystal, I could be imprisoned or worse. Are we clear?"
Mr. Gregorovich fixed her with a penetrating and intent gaze, wanting her answer right then and there.
