Merethist's worries melted away at the smile Charming gave him and he sighed softly, reassured. "alright, i'll see you tonight" he murmured softly, brushing his lips against Charming's. He stepped back, letting his hand slide from Charming's as he walked back towards his chair, nodding to his question.
"yes, have fun!" he chirped, sitting back in the chair. This time opting to pick up a book of fairies.
---
THE BALL~
Merethist was entirely too nervous. He had no idea what this ball was going to hold and he was a bit scared and lost. His hands twisted nervously in his skirts and he looked around, trying to spot Charming. If Charming's mother knew, did that mean he could be open with Charming?? Somehow, he liked the idea of his head still being on his shoulders.
"oh well~" he sighed to himself, moving through the crowds to reach the buffet table, picking up a glass of wine and sipping it. Happy to find it gold and not pink.

Prince Charming himself was actually nervous now. Everytime he turned his mother seemed to be there poking him in the back, but he hadn't located Merethist yet. His eyes scanned the ballroom as he tried to avoid dancing with any of the princesses who were really becoming quite the nuisance by now. It was odd how their standing changed in your mind after you'd found someone.
He started as he spied Merethist's conspicuously pink hair in the crowd, near the buffet tables, fetching a glass of wine. "Merethist." He breathed as he came up behind the other, absentmindedly picking up his own glass of wine out of habit. He'd found Merethist by now - that was a good thing. He turned his head a fraction to spot his mother watching him like a hawk - she was beginning to intimidate even him by now.

Merethist took a sip of his wine, glancing around nervously. He felt alone really and all the princesses were still avoiding him, he started as he heard Charming say his name and he turned to him, looking very relieved. He looked around, still uncomfortable that everytime he was near Charming, all the attention seemed to follow.
"this is...grand" he murmured nervously, smiling a little to hide that nervousness. He didn't know what was happening after this, but he did know Charming's mother was watching them. He raised a hand to timidly wave, before he took a sip of his wine again. So she wasn't bothered, but why was she watching Charming like that??

"Yes," Replied Charming with a small smile, noting quite a bit of attention now on himself and Merethist. He blinked at Merethist as he was to his mother. She might have approved, but he felt like pretending as if the woman weren't there. Charming took a sip of his wine before setting it down. Wine wouldn't do him too much good right now. Granted, it might have made he calmer in the situation, but it wasn't as if that really mattered.
The prince listened to the music begin to blend into another piece and offered Merethist another smile - he was so anxious at the moment that he felt as if he might have looked more like he was baring his teeth. "Do you want to dance, Mere?" He questioned, glancing at the couples already accumulating on the dancefloor. His mother had now skipped quite a bit closer and he had a feeling she was listening to him speak, because he spotted her nodding from the corner of his eye. She was becoming quite the intimidation.

Merethist watched Charming, noting how uneasy he looked. Was it his mother's doing?? He sipped his wine again, gaze flicking to Charming as he asked him if he wanted to dance. He nodded, setting the wine glass down on the table and he took Charming's hand. He was oblivious to Charming's mother's hawking over them and he smiled at Charming, aiming to enjoy himself.
"you look tense, what's wrong??" he asked, worrying a little as he walked them onto the dance floor. One hand resting on Charming's shoulder as the other held his hand. He liked this music, slow dancing was nice and easy. He looked around, still feeling his nerves twist inside himself.

Charming blinked as they made their wake to the dancefloor and Merethist spoke. "Oh, it's nothing." He replied, still feeling acutely nervous in the situation he'd back himself into. He noticed he was quaking a little and tried to stop it. It was just that... he'd never done this before. Granted, most people only did what he was about to do once. Still, he knew how it was done, at least.
Their surroundings really were very extravagant as they dance around in slow circles, but Charming wasn't sure what to look at. Merethist, or the world around them. In the end he settled his eyes on Merethist, feeling a strange unease flow through his system. He also felt as if his pocket were about to burn open with the thing it held. He just had to calm down and everything would be perfectly fine.

Merethist looked around, one hand delicately clutching the skirts of his dress as he danced with Charming. He focused his attention on Charming, twirling out of the hold and bowing to him as the dance ended. He felt the butterflies in his stomach go away as he calmed down, realising this evening was going to be like any other. He was just glad he wasn't in danger of forgetting anything anymore.
He stepped closer to Charming, tilting his mouth up to his ear as the couples dispersed into the crowd to chatter with everyone else, they all seemed excited over something, Merethist was curious. "I love you, Prince Charming" he whispered, pulling back with a blush, his hands clasped together, he was embarrassed and he knew he was. He was hoping no one had heard that.

Charming felt the dance come to a stop. Now was the time, wasn't it? He felt an amazingly odd calm settle over his body as Merethist stepped closer and spoke into his ear. "I love you, too." He murmured, grasping one of the cherry blossom phantom's hands for a moment and staring at him, hard. His heart now fluttered rather annoying in his chest, despite the complete calm he had felt just a few moments before.
Down on one knee in one graceful movement - the same movement his mother had beaten into his head that morning. He couldn't help but grin at the situation. People now had their eyes turned towards both Merethist in Charming. Watching. Waiting. Some horrified, others merely curious. A moment later the ring was out of his pocket as well. Everything perfect. Everything in place. Everyone watching. He took a breath, wet his lips.
"Will you marry me, Merethist?"

Merethist felt his world come spinning to a halt when he saw Charming get down on one knee. He watched, breathless and with a fluttering heart, the face all around them, then he focused his attentions on the man kneeling before him and a sense of utter love and adoration pooled in his stomach. He wasn't.....was he??
Merethist's eyes widened and he failed to catch the gasp as it left his lips, cheeks stained a deeper red and a smile flitting across his features. He curled the fingers of his held hand, around Charming's, looking at the ring. He felt a tad dizzy, overwhelmed and he didn't care if every princess in the underground hated him right now, he was too busy loving the man that had proposed to him.
"..yes.." he finally managed to happily reply, the shock having passed over and allowing him to speak once again. He sorely didn't know what to do now and he looked around, a tad puzzled. He was...engaged? He was engaged!! Happy tears welled up in his eyes and he hastily rubbed them away, giggling a little. "oh my.." he breathed.

Charming watched Merethist over the span of the few moments that passed, feeling an utter relief as he replied. Merethist himself seemed to be in a state of shock, but for Charming it had already washed over. In a swift movement he made his way off of his knees to gather Merethist up in a kiss. The reactions of anyone and everyone else in the ballroom ceased to matter by now. They were here and Charming was actually agreeably engaged.
A scream of obvious joy emanated from the big-bosomed woman as she made her way over to her son, who was now shamelessly making out with his gay fiance. Not that it mattered! Merethist was so girly that it didn't! "MY BABY!" She cried, interrupting the moment as she attempted to hug them both tight. This was absolutely perfect! Well. Not quite, seeing as how Merethist was male and all, but it was very close!

Merethist smiled at Charming, returning the kiss happily, he felt very, very happy right now. The ball didn't matter anymore, he didn't care about opinions, he was just blissfully engaged to the person he loved, that was more then enough to cancel out the bad.
The scream alerted him and he broke the kiss, staring at Charming's mother, a tad bewildered as he was hugged. He didn't notice the tall man following Charming's mother, he was too busy trying not to get squished too badly, while still clinging to charming. Charming's father beamed and brushed long dirty-blonde hair out of his eyes, patting his son on the back. "finally!! now your mother can finally stop twittering about princesses and grandchildren!!" he siad, aiming a smile at Merethist, who timidly waved back.

Charming let a sigh escape his lips as his kiss was interrupted, and gazed at his mother who was currently on the verge of crushing his fiance. He blinked as his father came up and spoke before rolling his eyes. "Yeeahh..." By now Charming had to admit he really wasn't sure what to do anymore. He wanted to stay with Merethist, preferably alone, but it really didn't look as if his mother would allow him to do that just yet.
Prince Charming's Mother finally released her son and Merethist from her chokehold, staring at them with teary eyes. She'd have to prepare for the wedding as soon as possible! There was so much planning to do now! "We have to start planning!" She cried in obvious excitement. Never mind that her son had been engaged for less than five minutes.

Merethist smiled at Charming's mother and father, not knowing what to make of them. They seemed a tad....too spirited really. He cuddled closer to Charming, examining the pretty ring that was on his finger. He looked around, suddenly realising they were the centre of attention. He blushed, burying his head in Charming's chest to try and hide.
Charming's father surveyed the crowd, grinning broadly as he started clapping for the newly engaged couple, most likely he'd need to drag his wife away from them so they can have some alone time. "dear, lets go get them /that/ gift, yes?" he asked, knwoing how frenzied and excitable his wife could get.

"OHYES!" Prince Charming's Mother screamed, running over to her husband and almost bouncing with excitement. "Come! Quick!" She stole her husband's hand and began to drag him off in the opposite direction with a bright smile plastered on her face. She was going to have such a wonderful time~
Charming wrapped his arms around Merethist in a comforting manner as the other buried his head in his chest. The prince really did want to get some alone time. His father seemed to notice that, at least. He watched as his mother dragged his father off in a slightly blank manner before looking down to Merethist. "C'mon." He murmured softly, surveying the court in one swift glance before taking Merethist's hand. "Let's go to the gardens..."

Two weeks after the night of the engagment. The morning after a very large ball...
He awoke slowly and groggily, already feeling the beginnings of a hangover, not realizing he was in an unfamiliar bed he slung his arm around Merethist. He opened his eyes a little wider. "Mere--" He stopped. Stopped completely. This wasn't his bed. This wasn't Merethist's bed. He took his arm back quickly, gaping in horror as a woman sat up and turned to him. "Charming~" She smiled at him. A princess he had danced with a few times. He knew her. Just barely. The princess leaned in nearer to him and Charming felt himself rooted in place in the bed. Just a dream. Just a dream. He swallowed as an almost sickening wave of lust rolled through him. He didn't get this feeling. Didn't really get it at all as he leaned forward and caught her lips in his. Merethist-who?
Merethist felt sick with worry, so very sick with worry. He had gone to bed alone, Charming had disappeared the night before and he had slept alone, in his own room, even Star was out wandering last night. He had gotten up and tried Charming's door, only to find it still locked. What could he do?? Charming had most likely just gotten too drunk right?? He was trying not to think Charming was in someone else's bed, he wouldn't do that, Merethist trusted him completely. He sighed and stopped trying to force the door, it was early morning now and no one else was up yet, so he decided to just go and watch the goblins and servants clean up after the ball and maybe bump into Charming, there was no harm in looking and hoping, right??
The kiss was deep and really very lustful and Charming pulled away wordlessly, slipping out of the bed, locating his clothing in a heap on the floor, and throwing it on. He sent yet another glance to the princess, memorizing her face while feeling himself nod slowly. It was wordless. Completely wordless. Almost as if there was nothing there. But there was most definitely something. Something the prince couldn't even identify. He noticed he'd lost another hair ribbon as he exited her room, giving her a long glance before shutting the door behind him. There was probably something wrong with him, seeing as he was engaged and all, but none of that seemed to matter. The princess was a beautiful one... It was almost disturbing how easily Charming had forgotten all else in her presence.
Merethist was walking along the hallways, humming unevenly to himself as he wrung his hands in worry, trying to fight back worrisome tears. Charming was most likely just up early or something!! Nothing to worry about, no nothi-- He paused as he saw Charming exit a room just ahead of him and he rushed forward, throwing himself into Charming's arms, too happy to see him. He looked up at him, wrinkling his nose. Perfume and....he looked at Charming's appearance and his lips and shook his head, that wasn't lipstick!! and those weren't bite marks on his neck, he pulled away, staring at him, looking surprised and a little disgusted. "y-you didn't..." he whispered hoarsely, no it was his imagination, surely.
Charming was shocked as Merethist barreled into him and had to suppress a strange wave of disgust. Either at himself or at his fiance. Merethist seemed to quickly take in his appearance. His mussed hair, the light stains from lipstick smeared near his lips and the light bruises on his neck. Now Merethist was disgusted with him as he spoke. Charming should have felt immense guilt. Immense remorse. He waited for either of the two to come. Neither did. Did he even care? "Didn't do what?" He questioned Merethist in a rather curt tone. "Didn't have sex with a woman? Someone other than you?" He felt a chill roll through him as the words escaped his lips. And yet... he didn't feel that way about Merethist. Wondered if he'd just been imagining it all up in the first place. Probably. Besides the fact that she was beautiful and wonderful and amazing, his new lover was a woman. Ideal, really.
Merethist felt his eyes stinging in fresh tears at the tone and he shook his head, unable to believe this. This wasn't true!! Charming was just....disregarding him now, he took a step back and dragged the ring off his finger, tears spilling down his cheeks as he chucked the ring stormily on the floor, glaring at him in hurt. How could he?! This hurt so much!! "I hate you, you ungrateful sod!! I wish I never fell in love with you!!" he shouted angrily at him, resisting the urge to slap him, he ran off aiming to just go somewhere and cry over his broken heart, maybe Charming's parents could help. He'd just been cheated on!! and Charming wasn't even sorry!! He felt so hurt and rejected, Charming didn't want him because he was a /man/. He wiped his eyes and simply sat down in the ball room, watching the decorations being put away with a stormy and hurt facade.
Charming watched the tears form in Merethist's eyes. He should have felt sympathy. Instead he felt the need to go back into the room he had come from to be with the princess. "I wish I'd never thought I'd fallen in love with you." He replied instead of something else with a cool smirk as he was quite suddenly freed from the issue of engagement. And then Merethist was gone. Charming leaned down, picked up the ring and put it into his pocket. Off he went, he supposed. He threw a long glance to the door the princess was behind before turning on his heel and beginning to walk slowly down the hall. Mistakes, mistakes. Had he just made one?
