The planets
In modern Western astrology the planets represent basic drives or impulses in the human psyche. These planets differ from the definition of a planet in astronomy in that the sun, moon, and recently, Pluto, are all considered to be planets for the purposes of astrology. Each planet is also said to be the ruler of one or two zodiac signs, on the basis of a similarity or sympathy between planet and sign. The three modern planets have each been assigned rulership of a zodiac sign by astrologers. The ten planets used in astrology are as follows:

* - Sun: Personal strength, vitality and achievement, leadership qualities, power and authority; the need to express oneself; creativity, parenthood, (especially fatherhood), the need for recognition, esteem and personal pride. Ruler of the zodiac sign Leo
* - Moon: Inner feeling, moods, habits, the unconscious, nurturing and parenthood (especially motherhood), home and family life in general, instinctive reactions to life, need for emotional security and safety. Ruler of the zodiac sign Cancer.
* - Mercury: Mentality, communication, (especially for short distances), thought processes, teaching, schooling and basic education, literary pursuits, the immediate environment or neighborhood, capacity to be logical, detached and rational. Ruler of the zodiac signs Gemini and Virgo.
* - Venus: Relationships and partnerships of all kinds, romantic love, desire for beauty, harmony and co-operation, personal comforts and possessions, the arts, fashions and social life. Ruler of the zodiac signs Taurus and Libra.
* - Mars: Urge for action, personal energy and drive, assertiveness and aggression, sexuality and passions. Sport, physical activity and competition. Ruler of the zodiac sign Aries and traditional ruler of the zodiac sign Scorpio.
* - Jupiter: Personal growth and expansion, aspirations, desire for freedom, sense of justice and morality, religion, philosophy, higher education, the law, long distance communication, enterprise, risk taking and gambling. Ruler of the zodiac sign Sagittarius and traditional ruler of the zodiac sign Pisces.
* - Saturn: Personal limitations and structure, sense of responsibility, ambition, career, authority and hierarchy, serious thought, concern for hard realities of life, capacity for hard work, discipline of self and others, tenacity and trustworthiness, capacity to deal with sickness and difficulties in life. Ruler of the zodiac sign Capricorn and traditional ruler of the zodiac sign Aquarius.


These are the seven heavenly bodies known to the ancients and are believed to represent the seven basic drives in every individual (the sun and moon, also known as 'the lights', are included in this assessment alongside the planets). Astrologers call Mercury, Venus and Mars the 'personal planets', as they represent the most immediate drives. The 'lights' symbolise respectively the existential and sensitive fundamentals of the individuality. Jupiter and Saturn, until very recently the two furthest planets, represent aspects of the individual functioning as part of society.

If you take the first part of Mars (Aries) and all of Jupiter (Pisce) (I was born on the cusp), that pretty much describes me, well, minus a few of the things. With Mars, I am by no means into sports or competition. And with Jupiter, all but the "the law, long distance communication" doesn't describe me. Other than that, they both describe me pretty accurately.

Maggie, since you were born on a cusp. Do you fell partial to one side? Or do you feel that both are you in some way? Do you ever feel that one side could be you completely?

the-jo, do you think it's possible to have someone else's traits "rub" off on you? Picking up on someone's habits is very possible, but traits give trough birth? Hmm... Can you give me an example of something? Maybe the "appearance" part of you is just that. How you would like to appear to others. I myself feel that acting a certain way is better then my own way. Are you mistaking them? or do you truly feel connected to you nanny in such a way that you have some of her traits?

Even though somethings are said there that you disagree with. You're looking with only one thought. Yes it says that Rebo has risk-taking traits, but not meaning she would like to jump out of a moving train just because she wanted to....or maybe she does who knows. But what I'm trying to say is that Rebo may have a high risk factor. She may be the one to go out and do something if someone else can't. Say for instance a friend is in need of help and everyone is sort of resilient. Rebo is more likely to go out and help that person. So she may not be jumping off any cliffs but she is the one to step up first....

At least...that could be it.
But if you look at you traits in a different way, could they fit you? Or maybe traits you thought were perfect don't seem to fit anymore? Just look closely at the meanings and see what you can find.

(I hope I didn't offend anyone. I was just kind of typing out everything I wanted to say and when I read it back to myself I kinda thought, "Ouch...I hope that doesn't come across that way." So if you feel irritated by anything let me know.) n_n

I really like the way you put that. Being in this guild and especially this class has helped me learn that there are more than one way to look at descriptions such as the ones in the zodiac. It seems that sometimes I forget to look at the other side of things. So far in my life I haven't been placed in any situations that could be considered high-risk, so I have no idea how I would react. In the situation where a friend may be in danger, I would like to say that I would jump right in and help, but I have no true-tried way of knowing. Thank you for opening my eyes to the other side. xd

I think it could be possible that traits could rub off on you. I always looked up to my nanny and always wanted to be like her so I think maybe that is where I can some of my traits.
How funny that you mention how I would like to appear to others. I'm having problems with that right now! LoL. Because I'm a mother of a three year old, people always see me as their "Mommys" and treat me that way. I have a difficult time getting me friends who see me and accept me for me and act the same around me like they do their other friends. Most everyone tip-toes around me like I'm their Mom and if they are upset with me, they don't say anything, they just complain to everyone else. . . like I'm their Mom! It drives me nuts! LoL.
I hope I'm not mistaking them. Maybe I am. confused Hm, I'm going to think about that. I feel that I am very connected with my nanny. But perhaps it's just the whole thing of being younger and wanting to grow up and be just like her.

Yes that is a good site. I do like how they give it to you short and to the point. However I would like to know if it was someone who just thought, "Hey I would like to make something thing like this..." or was it someone who put a lot of thought into it?


Well of course you never know until you try. However I'm sure there have been times that you've had to help a friend, not in a "dangerous" situation, but something like work or helping out at home. That too is showing that you are what your planet says. It's just all how you look at it after all.


Has there every been a time when one side will show more because of excited emotions? Like if you very anger of really happy? Does one part of your personality shine more then the other because of emotions?


My cousin became a mother at a very young age and though she had her kids and people tended to do as you say, act different because she's a mother, she didn't let it change her. She still went to school and she partied and she still had fun, though at the same time she would still be a very good mother. Her friends started seeing her in a different light. "She's a mom now, but she hasn't changed." lol though a lot of it was not always a good thing that she stayed the same it was good that she was able to keep her friends and remain how she always was.

Okay but for what I was talking about before. Yes it seems likely that people that you live with or respect or for that matter love their traits tend to rub off on you. And vise versa. I myself have two brothers and though they are both younger then me I still find myself being lured into their personalities. One's a Aries and the other a Leo so we all clash and work together in different ways. I do like that the eldest brother, we shall call him Aries XD, and I can do things together without thinking about it. It's natural. He's only a year younger. But getting other traits from others is very natural as long as it doesn't break the "rules" of your own traits. I'm glad you had someone that you were able to look up to because it most likely gave you incite on not just you're way of thinking but also on another.


lol it sounds like you have your own traits down to a tee. I like how even though it says that you have relationships and partnerships of all kinds you say that you have friendships that are stronger then family. That is an excellent way of looking at things. Because my friend, a Libra and we shall dub her so, she read that part and said, "It's not like I go out and sleep with everyone!" I had to explain to her that she was misreading. lol I love her, but she can be so dense.

On a personal level. This took me an hour to do lol I'm so glad that I put so much thought into this. n_n I hope you all really are learning great things from this class. I'm enjoying myself.
