Rayne looked at the drunken man with disgust. she had listened, and one piece of information hit her. 'thats his father? odd. neither of them seem to have inherited many of his characteristics. well, maybe their mother's characteristics carried through strongly.' she looked at the man, noting with acidity that he smelt like cheap alcohol. "dont worry, i wont get in the way of this family reunion." she turned on her heel and started to walk away, drawing the sewn together scraps of black silk tighter about her. something in the mans aura was distinctly unpleasant, and she wanted to get out of his presence as quickly as possible. Ember flapped up off her shoulder, disappearing into the darkening sign, whilst Rayne showed no sign of feeling that her daemon had just flown off beyond what most normal humans would be able to do.

Jane caught the bag and hefted it. Her eyes grew wide, it was heavier than it looked. She then turned to Luke. "Here. Come on." She held out her hand to the boy and hoped he flinch at it. She then noticed the other girl standing there. "You two, get moving. You going to come with us or go back home?" she yelled.

Luke was shaking his head at first, not wanting to leave Walter alone to deal with their father. "Walter, don't," he said, not wanting to see his brother hurt by the man.
"Let's go Luke," Rhynll said as he climbed down from Luke's shoulders and into his arms. At first Luke looked to Rhynll like he was mad - as if he would ever want to leave his brother to deal with their father alone, now they had been reunited! - but then despite himself he started realizing what it was that Rhynll saw. He would be of no help if he stayed; he could never fight his father even if he managed to get past his fear and be able to do so. He would only be in the way and distract Walter. It probably was best that he left.
"Don't be long," he said as he turned to go. He flashed a brief closed-mouth smile to Jame's offered hand but merely shook his head, indicating he wouldn't need it; he was tired, exhausted even, but he could walk, he wouldn't let the illness rob him of that.
"Yer no' goin' anywhere!" their father roared as he reached out and snatched a hold of Luke's thin wrist hard enough to bruise. The effortless way Walter had evaded his blow had merely agrivated him further so he went for someone who couldn't evade his grasp so easily.
Luke's eyes widened in alarm as he felt that steely grip on his wrist and spun round to face his father, yanking and wriggling his wrist trying to get it free even though he knew it was impossible. Rhynll climbed up from Lukes arms to his shoulders once more, somewhere the pit bull daemon couldn't get him.

Jane acted on instenct when the man grabed Luke's wrist. She brought her hand down onto the man's elbow and swung Luke behind her. She raised her arms in a defencive possition to protect herself and Luke. Shade stood his ground infrount of the pitbull, hackles up and snarling.

Walter stepped smoothly in between the two younger men and his father, and Alirialie firmly pushed the black fox back with an enormous paw. "James," Walter said softly, "Now. I'll catch up." He realized with some panic that he was tight with anger; for a brief and terrifying moment, when he'd seen his father go for Luke, he'd wanted nothing more than to kill the man. That wouldn't do. He took a deep, cleansing breath, and forced himself to relax. He was calm. He was always calm. Nothing could shake the calm.

Jane nodded. She then turned and picked up Luke. She then started to run. She saw Rayne in the distanced and slowled down. She place Luke down. "Sorry about that." She then placed her hands on his shoulders. "Don't worry about your brother. He can take care of himself."

Dani bit her lip, then followed after James and Luke. She hated leaving someone who might need help, but the truth was, she wasn't sure what she could do to improve the situation. If anything, she'd probably only make it worse. Arba, sharing her frustration, darted ahead as far as he could before the link between them grew too strained, then ran back. He continued this pacing movement as they caught up with James and Luke.
"Where are we going?" She asked to no one in particular, wondering why she didn't just turn around and go home now. Arba was back at her side when she shot her hand out and grabbed the scruff of his neck, stumbling a little as he tried to walk forward. "Can you stop that? It's really distracting."

((sorry about that, old post deleted. you should be a bit clearer about those things, though.))
Rayne looked back and saw the others also leaving the scene and stopped, waiting for the to catch up with her. ember was scouting around, but also keeping an eye on the proceedings between the two men. if anything big came up, rayne could always hop onto the staff of cedar she carried in her hands, and fly back. and ember would be there anyways.

Luke couldn't help but be surprised that it was James, someone he barely knew, who jumped in first, forcing his father to let go of him. He wasn't surprised when Walter did, he had always used to stand between him and his father.
When he was suddenly picked up he was surprised even further; Luke was small but James was smaller than he was. He must just be a really strong small person.
Being put on the ground, Luke couldn't help but look over his shoulder worridly back towards where they had left Walter and their father. For some reason he believed James, that he would be able to take care of himself but... "Father's changed, become more angry and violent than when he was last living with me though..." he said, trailing off worriedly.
"To an inn," he replied to Dani. "Then to Oxford when we can." There was something about her that he trusted, though it helped that he had met her before and she seemed alright.
Running his fingers through Rhynll's fur, he asked James, "Where is this inn?"

Walter listened to the retreating footsteps with relief. Now all he had to do was stall for a bit, and-
A giant ham of a fist connected solidly with his right cheekbone, throwing him to the ground. Well, he thought grimly, flicking his leg out in a kick that caught his father behind the knees and sent the larger, heavier man painfully onto his back, that was what came of not paying attention.
He was aware that his father was yelling, but there was no point in really paying attention to what he was saying. He got to his feet, consciously not touching his aching cheek, and centered his balance. This would be therapeutic, in a way, he told himself as his father pulled himself back up with substantial help from an obliging building; it should work out some issues.

"Not to far from here." Jane said as she started to walk towards it. "It was the place where I first met your brother three years ago. Haven't been there for awhile...Wonder if they still remeber me..." Shade shook his head and said, "I'm pretty sure they will..." Jane nughed him with her foot. "You can keep your opinons to yourself."
