the wolf came crashing in the room where Xantos laid. the little old lady shoved Pablo away from him. Aubry turned back into her normal form, and knelt by Riane and Pablo, muttering demon prayers to keep him alive.
"he has some permenant damage, but i think i can save him..." she told them. she took out some liquid and poured it in his mouth. "he needs rest mostly. make sure he doesn't move a lot, and put parsly, sadros, mary, and tripe in a tea, Aubry, you know what im talking about..." Aubry nodded, "and then after about a week, come back and get me to check on him. he probably might not be able to see very well for the rest of his short life..." she smiled, and then waddled out of the house. carefully, they all put Xantos in a big bed for him to rest.

Xantos saw the old lady come and go. and then he was moved in to a bed. he dozed off to sleep , worrrid that he would be usless when he woke up. all he thought he was good for was sword fighting. and now that he couldnt see very well.........

Aubry almost never left Xantos's side. she was worried about him... he was still very weak... and one night, he had caught a fever. she was almost always covered in tears as well...

Xantos couldnt speak yet, or smile, he could just barly open his eyes, and they were blurry, so he couldnt see her crying. he wonderd if she dispised him, or like him. he wondered. but he didnt know...he went back to sleep.....

When Aubry wasn't with Xantos, she was making tea. she was getting very tired, but she didn't care. as long as it helped him, she would do it...

a couple days later, xantos could stand, and aubry wasnt with him, he draged him self to the training room, he had to prove to himself he wasnt usless. he couldnt see well. so he had to feel around by memory. eventually, he was there. he found a katana on a wall. he went over to the dummies. he stood in the attack position. he tryd to take it out like you should. he tryed to hit all the killing blows on it. with perfection. just like he was able to, a week ago. bam, bam, bam, bam, was all you could hear. then, xantos went to feel the wooden dummie, to feel where he hit. they all were crappy hits. a novice could do better than his score. he usually scored a 500 out of 500, he got a 3 out of 500. he stood there transfixed on the dummie. instead of falling apart, he kept trying, even though his mucles were sore, he couldnt see what he was hitting. he was like a blind man in a duel. it just didnt happen. he eventually sunk to the floor. knowing he would never sword fight good again......

Aubry noticed him on the training room, trying to fight like he used to... she was always sad when he failed. finally, she walked over to him.
"you know, it is better when you use what you can use, instead of being sad of what you can't use..." she said... it was one of the first times that there were not tears on her face. do you want someone to fight? instead of using these stupid dummies?" she asked.

" yes he repyed weekly. " he stood up. "dont go easy on me." becuase i wont go easy on you."
xantos new what he said was now a death wish for himself. when before, to fight him was a death wish, now it was switched around and Xantos now knew what it felt like. he stood in the fighting pose. ready.

"of course, but, there will be a twist," she smiled. she took out a hankercheif. she tied it aroud her eyes. "this way, it will be fair, and i will teach you how to use your other sences, to replace your eyesight that you just lost." she went to the fighting position.

he saw this fair. and quicly agreed, causse he didnt want to die just yet
Xantos stood there listing, with his eyes closed. ready for an attack.

Aubry was in bare feet, so she shuffled around, waiting for him to attack. these were the same methods that her mother had uesd on her... she had also had eaten garlic for lunch, so he could smell her too...

Riane sat against the wall, crossing her legs, watching intently on their training. She knew that Aubry had made it possible for Xantos to sense her in other ways. But what would happen if he had heard or smelled someone else and gone for someone who couldn't defend themselves as well as Aubry could? Riane doused this thought, trying not to think of the worst.

Xantos shot forward, he lunged, if she was good, she might of blocked it, but he didnt know where she was, so he could of eaily missed, the only thing he had right now, was speed. he centerd it and drove forward as fast and silent as he could.
