Probably because the guys IRL think they're all that and a bag of chips because of the way they look/dress or who they hang out with(cliques). Whereas the guys here/online are part of the same clique (NERDS!!! and if you're not you're close enough if you're even here. "honorary nerds" we will call you) so it's basicaly a no holds barred environment where they don't have to care how they look when they're talking so they can come out of their shells as much as they like. That's my little spiel.

some people take the reverse attitude online - they can be total jerks, because they don't understand how to effectively communicate with text.

A lot of people feel that they can really let loose and be themselves when they are behind the curtain of online communication. No one can really see you or knows you, so you don;t have to worry about negative repercussions for saying what you really mean.
Sometimes people act like jerks to impress their friends, but that doesn't mean that just because they don't ask you to dance that they really are jerks.
Or maybe its because this is more select group... I dunno.

I think that when people have the mask of online characters, they just learn to express themselves differently. I mean, in real life, I'm antisocial, a silly and somewhat silent girl who works all the time. Here I'm more the wild bizarre, anime obsessed, violently comedic kid who talks tough unless I have to do something. Online I can be who I want to be adn I can express myself best then. Plus having delete keys adn editing options rock. Wish that happened in real life.

Well, at least someone's special. I don't like to put on a false front just to impress people. That's just idiotic.

Some people just can't help it. YOu just act differently around different people and different mediums. It's automatic.

I'm a little more quiet at school when my friends aren't around but I've always been that way. I'm still like that online(that's why i dont post a lot), but I'm not like crazy at home, super quiet at school, and some one else at church(well not anymore). it makes things so much harder when you want to be friends.

i believe there is a quote that teaches to not let your color change with the seasons, but to find your true color and let it shine.

Oh, I like that quote. 4laugh Yeah, it's way to easy to change what you're like when you're with others... And Yes! I love the delete key too Gilmare. 3nodding
Hm... as to why they're nicer here...? Hm, I think at least part of it is that this is a small sample of guys. There's a nice sample of of anything, no matter what the rest is like. wink (heh... girls included whee ) And yeah, you can be free to be whatever you want when you're on-line, for better, or worse. Although people who go to an LDS forum are more likey to be nice. If you're going through all the trouble to sign up for Gaia just to be mean, you're not going to go to an LDS guild.
