... Please tell me you're joking.
I've got nothing against Beyonce, she's a good singer and all... but if all these famous people keep getting hired for theatre, then eventually there won't be any room for those unknown gems who are trying to make it on Broadway. Beyonce has been in 5 movies, and I think she only sang in like... 2 or 3. As far as I know, she hasn't been on stage to do some serious acting... ever.
Of course I'm sure she'll be fabulous. But as an out of work actor, I get a little annoyed when I see celebrities hired for lead broadway parts instead of people who have been working hard and preparing for months for auditions. Blah.

Jim Hill reported that Disney wants Beyonce to be in an animated version of Aida, but as of yet, she hasn't committed.

1. Disney does not need to butcher Aida. The past few years they have ruined every attempt they've made at a film-adaptation.
2. Beyonce does not need to butcher Aida. She's a piss-poor singer (not that I've heard her do anything beside that r and b trash that anyone with a digital processor can sing). She's only a fair-to-moderate actor. And I can't imagine what her voice acting skills (or lack thereof) would be.
3. Why the bloody hell would Disney want to make an animated version of Aida? Not exactly the kind of thing kids would be in to. And the adults would just go find a run of the real thing.

I'm not that crazy about the show in question, so I don't really care what they do to it. But it's kind of fun to watch other fans run around like chickens with their heads cut off, shouting "No, no! How can they do this? Everything is ruined forever!"

It kinda frusterates me that the word "Disney" is automatically associated with little kids and whatnot...have you guys seen the Pirates of the Carribean films? Not exactly little kiddish to me...
To me, Disney has proven that it can appeal to an older audience...it's gone out of its great golden phase with its animated musicals, and moving on. What with the musical-to-film adaptations out there, I feel it should give it a shot.
The fact that I've seen the Aida soundtrack at Disneyland and the Disney Store implies that Disney has something to do with its production. I'm not entirely sure as to what it is but Tim Rice and Elton John worked on the music...same people who worked on The Lion King film.
I think some people are being too harsh on Beyonce as well. I greatly understand the frustration of celebrities getting hired over other talents (probably someone with more talent than the celebrity) just for the sake of promoting their play. I think Beyonce is a fair singer and actress, although I really wouldn't want her playing that part...

I'm just curious to see a usually live show done animated...I mean Lion King the musical was cool but that was animated to live not the other way around...

Aida when it was on broadway was produced by Disney. The company commissioned the work. Now, Aida has the potential to be a good movie either animated or live action, but not if they butcher it and take all sorts of things out. Plus some of the material is a bit PG
As for Beyonce. I really just don't want to see her playing Aida. In my mind she just doesn't fit the role. I don't remember who played it when I saw it on tour, but I know that I've just become very, very accustomed to hearing Heather Headley's voice on the soundtrack. Beyonce and Heather Headley sound nothing alike. I feel like Beyonce's voice is just too pop-y for the role.
Honestly, Disney. rolleyes
