Harij stood in the middle of a field and simply gazed about in mild boredom. He had spent most of the morning doing pretty much and the stallion was quite content with himself. Earlier that week he’d gone out and visited with Lovey Dovey and her little girl, Flossy. The other two had found their homes elsewhere and now the family just got together occasionally. That, of course, was part of the way things went. His head lowered to the grass lazily and Harij tried to decide how he’d feel about having children and knowing that someday they might wander far far away to not be seen again. That wouldn’t be overly pleasant for him.
The wind picked up a bit and ruffled his braids.
The stallion snorted and then sneezed quite loudly, oii. Was he allergic to flowers or something? Harij chuckled slightly before continuing on his way. Which was simply standing. His mind was a million miles away and didn’t realize that in the early evening sun the scent of another had come into the wind and now he was no longer alone.

Viola had been buzzing from flower to flower, savoring the sweet sweet pollen. At this point, she was utilizing the flutter's gift, beind very small - small enough to be among the flowers comfortably as if she were truly a butterfly.
A shadow loomed over soon enough, and a loud - and wet - sneeze went off nearby. Frantic to get away, Viola flew off a distance before going back to her normal (but still small) size. The purple flutter noticed that it was a rather marked-up stallion that had threatened her with his nostril sweat.
"Excuse me," Viola said, walking forward to get his attention. "I understand that you may enjoy flowers as much as anyone else... but I do request you make sure there isn't someone around for you to squish before stepping or such. Your sneeze almost did some damage." Her tone was polite, and just a hint of lecture was there.... but it was almost more suggestive, and not a point of any deconscending in it.

Harij continued to pay no mind to the fact that a very tiny and very purple flutter was in the area. The main problem with that was that Harij had never met a flutter before and wouldn’t think a thing of the strange scent… not now at least.
His nose still ached slightly from the sneeze, that strange left-behind feeling that very rarely seemed to want to go away. The bright amber eyes and drifted shut to relax for a bit and think of other things. Should he go see his herd soon? Or just continue the wandering that was slowly earning him friends and the like.
Startling quite obviously, Harij snorted and felt the need to topple over. Before where nothing but wind and nothingness had danced was a rather irritated mare. Mares in general weren’t his forte.. And irritated ones didn’t do too much better in his book. “Err.. I did not even notice you were present. Perhaps if you make yourself known things will go better?” He wasn’t trying to be rude or scold, but being hen-pecked at for just standing wasn’t going to be fine with him either!

Viola listened as the stallion defended his action. Her lips curled in a partial smile, "Ah yes.... much the same as yourself I assume?" The mare took a step forward. Being so small, she had to look up to the other soquili.
"I could... go stomping around, granted I wouldn't make much of an effect. I could scream and yell, and make a general rucous. I could make myself sneeze all the time," As on command, she sneezed - a soft blow of air and thin sound. "But then, of course, the quiet pleasures of the flowers and field would be disrupted... don't you think."
The mare took a step back this time, and gracefully leaned down to pick a flower and hold it in her mouth.

Harij chose to simply raise an eyebrow at the mare. His own tone with her had been friendly and now she was being rather… uppity perhaps? People were not his forte and so it’d take awhile to make everything smooth.
“That would be your choice madame.” His tone was much stiffer than usual and his eyes had lost any look that might have been friendly or even conversational. Harij the hermit (so to speak) had rolled back up into himself and would take a bit to come out again. “The lands are large enough that one may find a quiet place away from someone who insists on screaming.”
Harij watched her take the flower and both ears went back, not in anger just irritation. This was weird.

Viola was a bit taken aback by his harsh words. She literally cringed as she chewed on her flower and then lifted her head. The mare eyed the decorated stallion, trying to figure out what it was that had made him so defensive. She couldn't decide.
"My choice would be to not be loud," she cocked her head to the side. "There is a lot of land, more so if you are smaller than many others." Like, a flutter, perhaps... "But we do not always get to choose who it is that we are around." With the last statement, Viola narrowed her eyes. He didn't seem very pleased, and the feeling was starting to rub off on her.
"Did I do something to offend you?" Viola had to ask. Others didn't usually have such a tone with her. Well, there were a couple she could think of, but they were kalonas so didn't count.

Harij made himself count down from ten quickly then slowly again. Normally it wasn’t very easy to get the stallion riled but his anger had blustered up right along with guild. After all, it certainly wasn’t on his to-do list to pummel a pretty little mare. Heck, even an ugly one.
Both ears pricked forward and listened with polite interest. Okay, so Harij knew that he was still counting down, but what did that matter? So long as his mind was able to control itself and not be overactive in crankiness. “I have so very rarely been accused of being loud.” His family had taken to mocking him for such quietness and it had rubbed off when he’d separated from them.
“No miss, you did not.” Now his speaking voice was it’s usual low-pitch velvet. Rather smooth but a bit too soft in the sense of volume. His amber eyes blinked a bit and then he waited.

Viola pawed the ground restlessly, not noticing the stallion's pause for silence. "The degree of sound is relative." The mare looked down quickly, where she had managed to dent the grass and dirt just a little. "For instance, I can barely hear my hoof striking the ground... but any creatures that may be down there... insect, worm, or otherwise... why, that might be as loud as thunder to them. Perhaps they do not even know that it is us up here, making so much noise... but instead the thunder brothers playing their games in the clouds?"
So.... she got a little off track, but the change in the stallion's voice made her look up at him again. Viola didn't smile, but the look in her eyes showed that either was was relieved or pleased that she had not in fact offended him. Nevermind he was at least three times her size and though she could fly away, he could definately do some damage if he so chose. Not that he'd want to, but the threat was always there for such small soquili.
"Good, for I hadn't meant to," the mare nodded.

Harij blinked wide amber eyes at the mare and part of his mind began to wander deeper into the question than what the mare was even talking about. At least he was pretty sure he was going too deep. Questions like, what IS sound really? And Who made sound exist? Floated around a long with a few others. The noise of a rainstorm was probably deafening to a kitten or a puppy and to him it felt like a type of music. Something that made him stare up into the sky even when the rain lashed down. Wow, way to get side-tracked. He visibly startled and blinked at her, “I suppose so..”
His voice was slightly husky and a bit dazed. Most folks thought he was being rude when his mind got the best of him so Harij forced himself onto the here and now. The only thing that could bother him right now was the idea that she was still looking like she thought he might try to ground her into a pulp in the mud. Oi, that wouldn’t suit very well for having a conversation that didn’t have dancing around each other.
“It is forgotten now, no?” That would help, right?

Viola stopped speaking. She has said perhaps too much, and besides... if he didn't understand what she meant, well, there wasn't anything else the small flutter could do about it.
And then he went and tried to make ammends, but to her diminutive ears it almost sounded like a rebuke, or perhaps he was blowing off the whole thing. Viola's ears flattened to her defined skull as she slunked a step back. "It isn't good to forget.... is it?" Maybe that wasn't want he wanted to here.... but if they didn't learn from their past or experiences, then how could they progress forward?
She was about to add something else, but a quiet clack sounded when the flutter shut her mouth - deciding against anymore words until he had made his own choice.

When the mare became silent, Harij sunk into his own usual state of… silence. The mare hadn’t really offended him, but he wasn’t used to needed to puff back up at others.
Good lord, did all mares have to be so bloody literal? Of course he wasn’t going to forget their rocky meeting but they didn’t need to wave it in front of each other like a giant red flag. Taking a slow, silent, and deep breathe Harij gathered his almost flayed nerves before opening his amber eyes back up. “You misunderstand my meaning.” That was about all he was going to manage for today.
Well, what else was there to do? He could shut his mouth and wait and she’d keep her mouth shut. With mares that never lasted very long now did it?

It was getting testy, and Viola wasn't used to that from those she just met... sure, there were some unpleasant characters at 'home'.... but that was a generational thing, for sure?
The mare shrugged, "Not that misunderstanding was the intent."
Viola gave the stallion a once-over, appraising him and his abrupt personality. "Do you often converse with mares? Or anyone for that matter?" she grumbled the last part quietly. "You take things so personally..."

Harij did not really have a clue any longer as to what was going on anymore. The stallion had trouble keeping up with conversations sometimes and that was when conversations were actually going in a normal manner.
"Oh?" Harij shrugged in return because what else was needed?
Talk with mares often or others? Well that was an easwy answer, no. "Not really... and I rarely take things personally unless they require it." Well, was that going to be considered insulting by the very small mare.
