I KNOW we have a thread like this already but for the life of me I can't find it (watch it'll be on the first page by the time I post this).
Anyway, with the wanning of my Anita Blake passion I've been searching for somewhat similar stories by other authors. Any suggestions? I have a hard time trusting critics but am more likely to read something someone here suggests since I already know we read some of the same material ;]
I'll even list the two I've found so far just in case anyone else feels like I do.
Lilith Saintcrow, author of the Dante Valentine series. Dante is a necromance like Anita but set in a world where the devil just may knock on your door for favors but I haven't heard the mention of the word "vampire" yet. The first book in the series (the only I've read) is called Working For the Devil. It was ok but the main character will have to grow on me. She actually does remind me of Anita sometimes.
Patricia Briggs, author of the Mercedes Thompson series. I've read the first two books called Moon Called and Blood Bound. Both were good and take place in a universe very much like the Anitaverse. The fae and the werewolves have been publicly outted and behind the scenes still lurk handful of vampires. Mercy herself is a coyote girl/walker who was raised by wolves.. litterally.
So far both of these series have been easy to read and contained very little (Saintcrow) to no (Briggs) sex at all. I never thought I'd say it but it's refreshing.
