I'm interested in composing a list of fictional girls and women who chose abortion when faced with an unwanted pregnancy.
It's interesting to see the way the subject is handled by different writers. Please, if you can, state the year it was produced or written in. Notes on how you feel the issue was addressed, or on the piece of work itself, would also be useful. Please include authors for books. Please include the actor for movies and TV shows.
"Fictional" counts as any books, movies, and television shows. Characters can be based off of real people or inspired by real people, as long as they are not biographical.

TV Shows
1972 - Maude - Maude Findlay played by Bea Arthur

1989 - Degrassi High - Erica Farrell played by Angela Deiseach
(If you are able to find these episodes uncut, which are the first two episodes of Degrassi High, I strongly recommend watching them. They do a very good job of dealing with the fears of being a pregnant teenager and not knowing what to do, and even include showing the pressure pro-lifers can put on people considering abortion.)

2003 - Degrassi: The Next Generation - Manuella Santos ("Manny") played by Cassie Steele

Films/Movies
1972 - Cabaret - Sally Bowles played by Liza Minnelli
(The main character Sally Bowles works in a nightclub in Germany when the Nazis were rising to power. She doesn't know who the father is, but her current lover says it doesn't matter. She gets an abortion without consulting him, and when he asks why she did it, she says that she's irrisponsilbe, selfish, and will never amount to anything.)

1980 - Fame - Hilary played by Antonia Franceschi

1982 - Fast Times at Ridgemont High - Stacy Hamilton played by Jennifer Jason Leigh
(Movie is based off the book with the same name.)

1987 - Dirty Dancing - Penny Johnson played by Cynthia Rhodes
(It's set in '63, so it was illegal, but she just gets away with a lot of pain. She can still have kids.)

1992 - School's Out - Tessa Campinelli played by Kirsten Bourne
(Movie concluding the Degrassi High TV series from the 80s. In this movie, a girl gets pregnant even though she and her partner always used condoms. This shows how protection isn't 100% reliable.)

Books
1982 - Fast Times at Ridgemont High by Cameron Crowe - Stacy Hamilton
(Goes into more details about the girl's feelings and the procedure itself than the movie does.)

1982 - The House of the Spirits (La Casa de los EspĂritus) by Isabel Allende - Amanda

It's in a song, but I think it counts.
"What It's Like", by Everlast, has a verse that goes:
Mary got pregnant from a kid named Tom who said he was in love
He said don't worry about a thing baby doll I'm the man you've been dreamin' of
But three months later he said he won't date her or return her call
And she sweared god damn if I find that man I'm cuttin' off his balls
And then she heads for the clinic and she gets some static walkin' through the doors
They call her a killer, and they call her a sinner, and they call her a whore

God forbid you ever had to walk a mile in her shoes
'Cause then you really might know what it's like to have to choose

I think it's a pretty good reflection of how people treat women who get abortions, and how heavy the choice can be on the person making it.

Another song, "Hard to make a stand" by Sheryl crow:

My friend, o lawdy,
Went to take care of her own body,
And she got shot down in the road
She looked up before she went,
Said, "This isn't really what I meant"
And the daily news said,"Two with one stone"

That's a very good song. I heard it when I was young, and I think it was the very first thing to ever make me think about the issue and put myself in the unfortuate woman's shoes.

Ani DiFranco has some good songs, but she's singing as a real person who really did live through it, so I guess it counts as autobiographical rather than fictional.

There's a movie, I think it's called Cabernet. The main character Sally Bowles works in a nightclub in Germany when the Nazis were rising to power. She doesn't know who the father is, but her current lover says it doesn't matter. She gets an abortion without consulting him, and when he asks why she did it, she says that she's irrisponsilbe, selfish, and will never amount to anything.

It was written in the '80's, I think, but the author is Chilean and the book takes place somewhere in South America (Allende doesn't name a country, but it's most likely Chile).

Season 3 Episode 12 of House MD... "One Day, One Room"

It was just a one-episode character whose name was Eve.

She was a pro-life Christian and rape victim. She's diagnosed with Chlamydia, and she's pregnant. At first she's completely against having abortion because 'it's murder'... But then after having long personal conversations with House, etc, etc, she changes her mind and aborts.

We don't know. She just has an abortion, and the episode ends, I believe.

I think I saw that episode. Was she blonde and kept spouting off t-shirt slogans? I don't remember her deciding to abort, but I do remember House sorta backing off on her decision.
