Oi, so right now I'm waiting tables at a hotel restaurant, and I hate it. I just might give my notice this week. But I have no idea what I'm going to do for work . . .
What jobs do you all have? Can anyone put in a word for me? wink

i work at a bookstore working the california minimum wage (8 flat....BLOWS! especially when i only work 2 days a week when ive been begging for more)
i think in the next month or two ill be tutoring 7th and 8 graders for 3 hours a day @ 12-15$ an hour (which would ROCK especially with my aunt being the teacher whos looking for people mrgreen )
if you can, try volunteering for schools. they often are constantly looking for people and they pay pretty well. the only downside is if you arent good with kids. if you arent i wouldnt reccomend it.

I work at a McAlister's Deli in the local mall, and I hate it.
I'm job hunting right now.
But I got it two days after being fired from my old job, and it pays a little less... but at least I got a job as soon as I lost my old one :/
I cried for 20 minutes straight 'cause of it, though... and it's hard to make me cry.
I made $7.20 at my last job, $6.75 at this and I'm hoping to get a normal job I can turn into a career and make $9+ an hour for 30 hours a week at least.

I work at Kraft. Yes, I do smell of cream cheese sometimes... but the pay is good. $13.95/hour for general labor, unless I'm doing a classified job then I'm making $15.55/hour.

Hm. I work retail. At a goddamned Hot Topic. The pay is crap, and my hours suck.
But it's those kinda jobs that are the easiest to get, if you're desperate.

My job is..well lets say it's always entertaining. Like you never know what's going to happen and I work at a Dollar Tree. The pay is alright and I do get a lot of hours, but the people who come into shop are flippin nuts.
I'll tell you a story..I'm cleaning up the store for closing and in the socks area I smell something. Inside the socks I smell it. So I'm looking through the sock and their is a pile of poop. So my reaction like the Dane Cook joke is, "SOMEBODY s**t ON THE SOCKS! I THINK...SOMEBODY s**t ON THE SUCKS." It was gross as hell, but never a dull moment working at The Dollar Tree.

Mostly so I can dye my hair blue sweatdrop They're the only place around here that I think would allow me to.
Unfortunately, it's further away than I should work.

I work at a factory. Ahlstrom. The pay is decent and goes up quickly. I work 2nd shift and a lot of overtime. Sometimes 58 hours a week. Really good benefits. Really good company to work for. I'm moving to South Carolina in a year to work at the plant they have there.
Oh, and the job is really really easy. I love my job. heart I don't mind making just enough to get by. I'm very lucky to have found a job I really love. I'm not reaching for anything higher.

Its_Becky I don't mind making just enough to get by. I'm very lucky to have found a job I really love. I'm not reaching for anything higher. That's the thing right there. I honestly wish I had known two years ago what I know now. Success is overrated. I mean, granted, most of the reason I went to college (14 month course) was to get away from where I grew up, but nonetheless, maybe I should've sought a job in the city instead. My student loan payments are 240 a month. >_< The only reason I've held my current job as long as I have is because after taxes, I clear 13-17 dollars an hour on any given day. More when it's busy/understaffed/a holiday. If I ever have children, I will never push them to pursue big money, no matter how intelligent they may be . . . But yeah, factory work is something I could go for right now. Or even a desk job (that doesn't involve excessive phone use) . . . or even something where I help people on a one-on-one scenario. Being surrounded by tens of people who all want stuff at the same time is a tad stressing, especially when you're not good at what you do . . .

Ghosty: Yeah, leaving a job or being forced to leave is quite upsetting. I went through a tough time emotionally (sp?) last year because I went though six jobs trying to find something with a good pay. Again, I had the wrong thing in mind . . .
Pawn: I may not know much about what I want to do with my life, but I know I don't want to handle children all day. wink

Sirbadmonkey Ghosty: Yeah, leaving a job or being forced to leave is quite upsetting. I went through a tough time emotionally (sp?) last year because I went though six jobs trying to find something with a good pay. Again, I had the wrong thing in mind . . . The thing was they had no reason to fire me, and it was my first job, and I was one of the best employees we had... and they fired me after 3 years. 3 years of them sucking away my life, and then they fire me for no reason.
It's so depressing to hear that success is overrated. I mean, I've begged my boyfriend to let me move to Missouri with him, for him get an apartment and pay for it for both of us 'til I find a job, then we share the cost... and that I wouldn't care what shitty jobs I had to have as long as I was with him... but he's still going to school in order to have money to care for me because he knows I want security. And even though I'm already paying back student loans, I still go to school a couple classes a semester out of pocket, and would continue even if I moved to St. Louis, in the hopes of one day having a carreer I can be happy with. It's why I'm trying to be so supportive of him going to school and working all the time, even though that means he won't move here right away, but after 3 years we'll be able to be together and hopefully live semi-comfortably.
My mom always pressed at me to worry about the money, and that nobody likes their job... but I find it much smarter to find a job you love, that you'll keep advancing in and growing in and getting raises in, and yet you'll still be happy.
I want to be either a translator, a german/japanese teacher, an art teacher for highschoolers/college or a couple's therapist.
I'm thinking since it's so hard for me to find a school for the languages I want to be fluent in, that's not the greatest idea... but I'll probably either be an art teacher or a couple's therapist when I finish school... God willing I ever finish school crying

The whole thing about success is (very) likely to be merely my viewpoint. I never really set high standards for myself career-wise. Plus I'm still young and bitter. razz
We're often told that we have it easier than our parents in this world. I don't buy that for a second. Job security doesn't (for the most part) exist anymore, no matter what your skill. Even if you stay for decades at a job, there's always the golden handshake (early retirement package), which is basically the process of management paying you to quit. It's always cheaper to bring in someone new, and multiple part time workers are cheaper than a full time worker.

I'm a graduate student, which means I work long hours in a lab for minimal pay. Actually, It's not too bad-maybe $11 an hour, before taxes. And I like what I do, which helps tremendously.
