Your soul tied to the hand of a magician, to always know that, with the slightest mistakes, comes the biggest price: death. Storyline

So many of us dream of being stars as kids. But, what happens if you actually get your dream, at one of the biggest, highest in rank, most beautiful Opera House's in all of New York City? In the 1920's, in this modern-fantasy world, there is an Opera Populace on one of the busiest, money-making streets. People, slugging by in their cars, horses taking rich, feather-adorned women two and fro, actors and actresses making their small living off of small theaters. Through all of this, the Opera House is a dream come true from childhood to adulthood. But, what really lies behind up those lightened steps, through those beautiful, antique doors? Why, something that the police, the government, the public, anyone... would never guess of.

The Opera House is always taking new performers, because, truthfully, a lot of them disappear. All of the performers that are accepted into this grand stage are all very good in their skill, but make too many mistakes that cause problems, and there goes your body, throne out into the dumpster, dead as can be. Once taking a job at the Opera House, perfection is a must, or close to it. Because, up in the boxes as productions rehearse and play for audiences, is a mastermind of madness. Some say he is young and beautiful, others believe he is old and disgusting. But, for most people in the Opera House, they just believe him as a monster. He writes the most wonderful plays for them to perform, but no one ever sees him; they don't know where he hides away, and they don't know why he secludes himself, when he makes the most money as a manager of the House in all of New York City during the time. And they have to wonder, when he sits up there, watching them, what he really is, what he really does.

Because, in reality, he's a modern man with magician power. Of course there are such things that grow within people in the suburbs, but this man chose a different life. One who lives of money, power, and not of a poor beggar when the time was so enlightened. Yet, one has to ask: how does this mastermind get away with the murders he commits against small mistakes? How does the police not notice? Because, the people in the Opera House cannot tell. For, once you accept the job as an ignorant fool, he binds your soul to the House forever until your body withers and dies. You are to serve as a performer forever, never to leave, never to speak to the outside world. And you're afraid to speak of it to any audience members, for if you cannot leave and do so, the magician will kill you.

Always afraid, to perform forever, to live in an enormous Opera House in fear... how will you make your life worthwhile when all of these mysteries of a mastermind Magician of old, the on going performances, and your wanting freedom keep your emotions tangled in strings? When you receive too many notes from the Magician, you make too many mistakes... he'll kill you, throw your body out to rot, and no one will ever know, know will ever remember you. Bound by soul, scared to death; it's like your Performing with your own Death.

Setting

The Opera House is a large, three-flooring tall building with high ceilings, antique doors, and old, marble flooring. From the ceilings hang beautiful chandeliers, and below, on the extra, basement floor that no one can seem to find is where the Mastermind Magician lives, writes his plays and plots people's deaths. When you enter the stage arena, the entrance to the house, there are walkways that lead to large boxes the richest sit in, and a main, large walkway that shows you the way towards a grand, violet-filled stage arena with hundreds of seats. This is the Opera House where you will perform, be tied to, and run through the mysteries of ancient, magic-filled place.

You may be wondering what your character can really do inside such a place, stuck to perform forever until you die. Well, with the Magician always giving people secret notes in his secret ways, people are always stuck trying to improve themselves. And for those who are most sneaky, trying to find the magician and his basement without getting caught by him. People stuck in the Opera House are usually killed for their adding-up mistakes they make during their job, or sometimes, he'll kill just for the pleasure of his crazy mind. The Opera House is full of rooms where many people with share, or, if very well in there talent, have a nice room to themselves.

Your character is forced to do all of this or they will be killed. But, try to make it enjoyable; there is so many other performers, and such people are enjoyable, outgoing, and wonderful in their creative personalities. And, while you all may plot yourself against the magician, you have to be careful; it could be your life in the end. And because of the circumstances they are in, many will... many will commit suicide, so afraid and depressed as they get. Since the manager of the Opera House is always lurking wit the Magician's watchful eyes, you have to be careful!

Rules&Guidelines

Follow the Gaia TOS and keep the content PG-13! I believe you know what this means. Also, keep cussing to a minimum, please. =D

Remember that this is a literate guild, so try to keep your posts at least a paragraph with 4-5 complete sentences. I understand spelling mistakes, because I make them all the time.

No God-moding or Auto-hitting. It's unfair. :/ Also, don't kill other peoples characters without their permission, AND don't control other peoples characters.

You may use OOC chat here, but emphasize it with something!

As for profiles, since you usually find that stuff in the rules, just read below and you'll see. ^_^

You may play as many characters as you like, with how the magician likes to kill characters. O_o

Keep your character(s) within the timeline! 1920's America, people.

Please enjoy! Any questions? Post 'em or PM me!

Positions

Sopranos: They are the main roles in the Operas with their wonderful voices. They are very much respected by the Opera House Populace, and since they are so talented, the Magician doesn't like to kill them. But, when they make big mistakes, he is angered most.

Actors/Actresses: These characters play as both ordeals in chorus and acting. They sing small parts compared to the sopranos and play the characters that help make the plays and Operas a success. A lot of these people come in for jobs because a lot are killed off with how easily the Magician throws them out sometimes. These people usually have to share rooms with one or two other people of their gender, but some are privileged their own. Depends on how many people currently work in the house.

Dancers: The dancers are graceful in their moves, and make a lot of the Operas a success with their performances and beautiful outfits. They can be male or female, like all the positions. But, sadly enough, Dancers are killed as easily as Actors and Actresses, as lovely as they are. Dancers share rooms just like the Actors and Actresses.

Chorus: They have no acting parts, and are usually left alone by the magician because they are so small. But, he likes to keep the singers young with vibrant voices, so he will kill them in his ways and let more come in. Chorus shares rooms just like those above.

Backstage Workers: They work all of the set, lighting, and tweaks that go on during the performances and prepare before it. Many of them are killed and taken out by the Magician because they screw up a lot in their work and he just gets angered so easily as he watches from the shadows. They board together as well.

Conductors: They are respected among the Opera House, and usually loved, because of all the hard work he does with the songs, plays, and operas they work with that the Magician sends to them. They are rarely killed and replaced because they are so well and wisely chosen. The conductors have their own large rooms usually at the top of the Opera House. (I would only like three conductors!)

Dressers/Artists: These men and women design the costumes and make-up designs for the Operas and such. They make beautiful creations, but like everyone, are killed off. They usually have their own rooms.

Orchestra (Musicians): Players of string instruments that play soothing and other tones of music during the plays and Operas. They board together the most, but they are always together and always practicing to perfect their abilities, although, with all the wrong notes one may make, they are killed easily.

The Manager: He has always been there, and the people of the Opera House believe he always will be. This man is like the vision able, non-murdering version of the Magician himself. He makes sure everything is in order for everyone, and rumours go around saying he knows the Magician and reports back to him the faults of people. He is almost another set of eyes and body to the Magician. The Manager can also leave the Opera House, making business in the outside world.

The Mastermind Magician: He is an easily angered madman who is literally a control freak. He believes everything has to be perfect and will kill off someone for even the smallest mistakes. He gives people secret notes to help them and give them warnings, but if they do not listen, he destroys them. The magician is not caught in his killings because he ties all the workers' souls to the House itself. He lives in the basement floor of the Opera House.

Characters

Sopranos:

Username: Nicole Laurin
Name: Kristine Daee
Age: 25
Gender: Female
Position: Soprano
Appearance: Kristine
Personality: Kristine is a rather shy young woman. She is very friendly, and very trusting. She is the kind of girl who would sit in a room, quietly listening to others conversations. She is happy just being around people, not really needing to interact with them. However, she does enjoy a good conversation. She is a hopeless romantic. She would fall for a man were he simply to woo her the right way. A candlelit dinner, a walk in the park, a horse and carriage ride through the country side. These are all things that she often day dreams about. However, she is very serious about her training and practicing. She is very strict about keeping herself warmed up at all times, as well as practicing long hours.
History: Kristine was raised by her father. Her mother died when she was very young, and she doesn't even remember her. Her father died in her earlier years, and she was left in the care of a family friend. The woman who raised her was the dance teacher at an opera house. She became best friends with the woman's daughter, and was often allowed to watch the opera's from backstage. She always wanted to be a diva. She saw them come out on the stage and was immediately captured by their voices. Once she was old enough, she went off for training. From the age of seventeen, until the age of twenty-four, she trained with a rather amazing woman. This woman brought out the best in Kristine's voice. It has been one year since she finished her training with this woman, and she has been trying to get into the opera house for that whole year.

Actors/Actresses:

Username: Romeo for Tay.
Name: Mary Fitherlan.
Age: 27
Gender: Female.
Position: Actress.
Appearance: Mary is, what someone would call, beauty without a brain. She is wonderful woman, with brown, thin hair that she likes to clip up, curl, and do many other things with, depending on her characters she plays. She has plain, brown eyes with fair skin, but a cute, normal-weighted face. Unlike Claire, who loves her skimpy, men-cursed dresses, Mary is a pure woman with her simple dresses that tied with a bow at her waste, puffy shoulders, and cuffed blouses and long, heavy skirts.
Personality: One has to wonder what goes on through her head. She's an airhead of a woman, and Claire, seriously, keeps her align and on the ball with things. She's clueless about jokes you give her, but, with her giving, giving, and giving personality, people enjoy her company. She's a wonderful woman who takes nothing in return for her charity-like nature, but loves to cling to people, to never be alone, for reasons of her history. And although the Magician scares the living daylight out of her, she tries to stay calm. Claire says she doesn't do a good job at it, which is true, because she gets a bit frantic. Mary believes Claire is too hard and stubborn, and loves to follow her around because of discipline and, well, truth is, she lightens her up a bit. Mary is not easily angered, a very patient woman, but everyone always asks her if she hurt her head or something with how ditz she can get.
History: You couldn't see it in her, that she was once a ruthless, abandoned, heart-broken child. You couldn't look at Mary and say, "What's wrong with her?" without joking around. When Mary was born, she had a very happy family, with two older brothers and two lovely parents. But, as the years went on, her parents were always arguing with each other, and couldn't even stand each other. The two of them declared to never see each other again, and Mary was left to choose who to go with. She chose to be with her father, but... he didn't want her. She was forced to live with her mother, who became so hard and edgy, and her brothers never spoke to her. She was lonely, her mother sheltering her from the world. It wasn't until she was eighteen that her mother finally kicked her out for good, too busy with her new boyfriends that would simply use her. Mary was homeless for a time, until she found a job at a small theater. She was sheltered, but wanted a job and something fun to do. They hired her for her looks, and Mary began to realize a personality she thought she never had. And through her acting she found personality, love for acting, an out-going love to help people who suffer, and well, became Mary. No one addresses her by her last name, she never tells them. But, when Mary was finally given an opportunity at the Opera House, she said farewell to the small theater and was accepted as an Actress and Chorus. Little did she know about the Magician and his ways, that she would be there forever... she was sad for awhile, but when she met Claire, she lightened up a bit, finding a true friend in the woman, as much as Claire seemed to regret it.
[NOTE*: Claire's profile is no longer up anymore. Claire will now be an NPC, for I am choosing to play the Magician. But I'm not remaking Mary's profile.]

Username: SmartBrunette92
Name: Emma Armstrong
Age: Seventeen
Gender: Female
Position: Actress
Appearance:User Image
Personality: Emma is a dreamer. Ever since she was little, she had dreams of performing. Even now, she has dreams of escaping, and performing without her life on the line. She likes to think of herself as talented, and pretends she doesn't worry about her death. She seems slightly rude around others, but she is only trying to hide her fear. Emma is somewhat stuck up, but she had been pampered most her life. She expects that she'll live, and find a way out of the situation.
History: Emma had, all her life, lived more luxurious than most people. She is used to being pamperred and somewhat spoiled. She always wanted to be an actress, and always went to plays. Both her parents were alive her life, but she had a brother she doesn't remember. He died when she was two, so it doesn't bother her too much. Overall, she lived a very nice life.

Dancers:

Username: ~.Forever Enchanted.~
Name: Liliana Marris
Age: 21
Gender: Female
Position: Dancer
Appearance: [[..Lily..]]
Personality: Lily is the typical type to fit the time. She's very proper and brought up, as her parents put it, "As a princess would be." She's not stuffy or rude, but she does follow the rules. She does what she's told and she does it quickly. Whether the job is done well or not depends on the person giving her the assignment. She does her best and puts all the effort she feels necessary into a job. She's kind at heart and is very protective of her younger sister, Elizabeth. She can throw quite the fit though, and gets mad easily, though most of the time she's able to hide that emotion.
History: Liliana is the oldest daughter of the Marris family. Her father is a blacksmith and her mother a seamstress. It would appear as if the family would be poor, but that's not the case. Lily and her sister Liz got their genes from their grandmother. She was a dancer in the most famous show house before the Opera came around and the show house was put out of business. Their grandfather, before he came to America to be married. This is where the family money comes from. This is also how Liliana and Elizabeth found the opera house.
Other: N/A

Chorus:

Backstage Workers:

Conductors:

Dressers/Artists:

Username: Scurveylurv
Name: Madame Sabrina Flur
Age: 32
Gender: Female
Position: Artist/ Dresser
Appearance: Some would consider Madame Sabrina an old maid, but she looks nothing like the part that her age would suggest. In the age of the flappers and the emergence of the roaring twenties, Sabrina had taken the free spirit of women that had been so supported and lived as any show woman would: dressing younger than she was. Madame wore her dark hair in a short and stylish bob, with the sides slicked straight as was custom of young women of the time. She is usually wearing straight blouses and tulip hemmed skirts that reveal a dancers legs. The woman used to preform in an opera house in france, but upon moving to america an accident abourd her ship caused Sabrina to injure her leg, and she regrettably took up the job as dresser and make up artist for the ladies and gentlemen of the performance house. She is content to live in the ophra house, acting more like a mother to the perfromers than anything else.
Personality: Sabrina has been known to have a fiery temper when actors and actresses don't know thier limitation the same went for the singers and chorus, But all put aside she was a gentle soul, wrapped up in the glamor of the beauty the stage had to offer.
Other: Sabrina goes to great lengths to see that each costume and presentation of a performance goes perfectly. She fears for the lives of her 'adopted children' more than anything and is constantly warning them of mistakes.

Orchestra (Musicians):

Username: ~.Forever Enchanted.~
Name: Elizabeth Marris
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Position: Orchestra
Appearance: [[..Liz..]]
Personality: Unlike her sister, Elizabeth is very rebellious and free spirited. She loves to have a good time and though she would never even dream of disobeying orders from the manager or magician, she doesn't listen to many people. Really, the only other person she listens to is Lily. She's proper, and says 'please' and 'thank you', but she's got a strong heart. If she thinks something is right, she'll follow her heart instead of advice.
History: Elizabeth is the youngest daughter of the Marris family. Her father is a blacksmith and her mother a seamstress. It would appear as if the family would be poor, but that's not the case. Liz and her sister Lily got their genes from their grandmother. She was a dancer in the most famous show house before the Opera came around and the show house was put out of business. Though Liliana got the dancing gene, Liz picked up on music. Their grandfather, before he came to America to be married. This is where the family money comes from. This is also how Liliana and Elizabeth found the opera house.
Other: N/A

The Manager:

The Mastermind Magician:

Username: Romeo for Tay
Name: James Demartial
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Position: The Magician
Appearance: Many take him for a monster, that sits and watches up in the boxes of the Opera House. Many believe him old and withered, with the wise mind of a genius. But, the only one who will ever really know is himself; James doesn't even let the Manager see his very features, cloaking himself like the characters in his operas, or wearing the masks of a masquerade. James is a tal, burly man, like most men in the days; a fit figure for a fit voice. He stands at a tall height of 6'3", and has short-cut brown hair that's always ruffled from mere stress. Whatever he wears is never anythign important, from blouses and pants, to somethign fancy mixed together with peasant clothes. James only prefers what's comfortable to work in, although his wardrobe is enormous in it's stake. His skin is fair, but almost pale, from the lack of such weather upon his skin. But, it's also somewhat cold; maybe because of the magic he holds, or somethign else, only he knows.
Personality: James is very odd. He's the observing type, that always acts as if someone may be watching himl paranoia, but for what? He always keeps abs on everything around him, making sure it's there, it's happening and it's right. In a way, he's an obsessive perfectionist, and if it's not well, or the person is a 'failure' in his eyes, James disposes of the broken and frail. Even though the manager reports to him, with his body cloaked and only his voice to hear, it's a mere point of insecrurity with his odd magic. He wants no one of the outside world to ever see his face, to ever glimpse at his body; adding to the fright of something even looking at him out of order. If one were to try and hold a conversation with him, James couldn't do it, his mind either spaced off thinking, or too jumpy and off track that they'd think he was crazy. Maybe he is, in his twisted mind? if he wasn't already titled the Mastermind Magician of the Opera House, as james would laugh and say, "I'd be the twisted perfectionist."
History: Much... can't be said about James. His life, like most of the barely magic-touched beings that have mutated through the years, was rough until he took his place at the Opera House. Wandering the undergournd world of New York City, where there was nothing to eat, nothing clear to drink, with people alike fightign for terriotory among the magics of his world. James had always been unstable; he couldn't hold his place too long, he wouldn't make social contact. Walking through the areas, always glancing around, thinking someone was there to kill him once and for all. But, even under such torture, his hand could flicker across paper like a madman, wonderful, twisted, beautiful ideas sprouting form his hand. It was the only safe place he ever found in his world; the world of his imagination. Once he realized this, putting down the barriers of insanity for only moments, his decision was made, that he would show his world and be great. He would bring success to his creations, but to do it; well, his mind was alreayd sly enough, his clever, genius writings masterpieces. James left the underground world, and shuddered into the new one at a yougn age. And there, from the subway streets as many, many people busied themselves by and by him, across the wide street was the Opera House. he could hear singing and practicing, laughing and sorrow; and everynight, as the Opera House played their shows and rehearsed them, James would sit outside and watch and listen, writing ideas on how to perfect their plays. When he had almost heard twenty operas within months, James snuck into the Opera House. And he killed everyone that ran the place; the police went crazy all over the place, But James found the most peculiar area down below, where a former Manager stashed drugs and such. he threw it all out, and stayed there. The opera house was shut down for awhile because of the murders, the performers boarding there forced to go outside when they did for hours at a time in the cold. And when all seemed normal again, and the police left for a long investigation, James used his magic to tied all the perfomers to very house, to become his puppets as he watched their acts. Through secrecy he showed the composers and directors his work. Everyone, although they had never seen him, marveled at such creations. James still does the same thing now, and he kills whoever may ruin his illusions of magic, his masterpieces that he can just sit to and listen to as it played in merriful comedies and tradgedies in his head. He was a genius, they had claimed, but a captor as he held them all for his own sick pleasure of money and performance. He's rich, he's unknown, and it's all due to the very physics in his soul, birthed form the wastes of the city itself.
Other: James can't use magic as one would think. The mere uses of it are quite simple; he can't tie a physical soul to the body of the house, where his magic now grows from, and make it seem like to all the people otuside that the illusion of them all went missing and the killings are nothing. It's pure trickery and skill, something he could never accomplish without the Opera House. But if his magic and illusions were to fail him, to run out if they could like his very life would one day, then they would all be free, the Opera House not as maginifeicent, his life put to criminal use.

((Alrighty, its time to get this party started. ^_^))

A soft humming sound wafted through the halls, light enough that it was likely to go unnoticed. Alone in her room, Kristine sat in front of her mirror, brushing through her long brown hair and humming the tune of one of the songs she had learned. She had a soft smile playing across her full red lips as she stared into the mirror, not really seeing herself, but the thoughts that played about in her mind. Her deep blue eyes had a distant looking to them, showing quite clearly that she was daydreaming. After a year of hard work, she had finally gotten into this oper house. She had been so excited to finally make it. Now, as she sat in her new room, she couldn't help but wonder what great operas she would be preforming in. Her humming grew louder, and soon she began to sing the song aloud, though still quite softly. She didn't want to disturb anyone else, but she was no longer paying attention to what she was doing.

Her comb moved through her hair for the hundreth time, the brown locks feeling as smooth and soft as silk to the touch. Finally she put the comb down, now brushing over the front of her crimson dress. It was an old costume that she had been given so that she would not look too poor. A young singer such as herself, filling the role of a soprano, could not be seen as anything below perfection. She had to look stunning at all times, which was something she was still getting used to. The fancy dresses were all new to her. However, the deep red of this dress seemed to suit her perfectly, causing her to almost shine with brilliance. She continued to sing and daydream as she sat before her large mirror, starin at her reflection in that blank and distant manner.

Dream of the Infinite Beauty

For the second time that morning, Liliana collapsed on her floor. She had been practicing since 4:00am and it still wasn't good enough. Not for him. She had seen people disappear from the opera house. She never knew why, but she didn't want to find out. She knew one thing though. Everyone had to do everything perfectly. Not one single mistake was allowed. Each act had to be her best performance ever. Each day consisted of vigorous practice and intense training. Everything had to be exact. It was no 7:00am. Her tight, cream-colored dancing dress clung to her body from the sweat. She reached up to the nightstand and took a sip of the cool, refreshing water. She had to keep working, no matter what the risk.

Right next door, though, sat her naive little sister, Elizabeth. Sure, Liz would always follow the rules...but she never really believed all the stories. She smiled as the sweet sound of her harp filled the room. Just a little practice before the performance later that day. She knew the song perfectly. She loved to play her instruments and did so for hours on end, practicing each song just for the love of music. It was her life and she adored it. Unlike her sister she didn't fear the "magician". She knew about him...almost everyone who had been there longer than a week knew about him...but she didn't fear him.

"darling, If you'd just sit still...I could finish." A middle aged woman scolded a young chorus girl. It would soon be time for a practice session and the little thing would need to be in full makeup for the dress rehersal.

The woman, Sabrina Flur or just Madame Sabrina as she prefered to be called had her hands full for the next few hours as there was a steady line of young men and women who needed thier make up , hair and costumes prepared for the dress rehearsal. each one had to be perfect... not just because in the theater presentation was everything but because the lives of the people preforming depended on it.

(( hey guys sorry about the short post, kinda out if it from the drugs i"m on . Silly pain killers make me so sleepy...))

"How can anybody practice with all this noise!" screamed Emma Armstrong. "There is no way I'll be perfect if you keep making noise!" Alright, so she wasn't yelling at anybody in specific, nor could anybody really hear her (she hoped). Emma just liked to yell. It helped her to calm her nerves. Especially when the Magician was hoping for perfection. Emma couldn't be perfect without being calm.

Emma was younger than most the other performers. But, she liked to think of herself as better than all of them. Actually, she liked to think of herself as better than the characters that the Magician wrote for the play. "I'm the best, of course," she always said. It was her signiture prhase.

Emma went back over and picked up her script. For her character, she was supposed to be dressed in a simple pink dress. And, what was she dressed in right now? A simple pink dress. Emma wouldn't do any practice unless she was wearing the costume the character was meant to. It didn't have to be exactly what she'd wear, but it had to be very close. Yes, Emma was very high class. But, it was all for her to act better, or so she claimed.

Glancing at the clock, Emma noticed it was time for her to go meet with Sabrina Flur. "Well, I've perfected it now," she sighed. "Or as much as possible with this noise!" She yelled the last part again, but it was just like what she was yelling before, intended for nobody. Emma walked out of her room and to where Madame Sabrina would be.

After what seemed like ages of daydreaming and combing through her long hair, Kristine finally stood from her dresser and walked over to where a piano sat. She had been lucky enough to get a large room, meant for her living and practicing, as she spent so many hours doing the latter of the two. She sat down, as light as a feather and dainty to boot. The distant look in her blue eyes faded to one of conscentration and determination. She ahd been working hard on the songs given to her, and she was so close to perfection. However, it still wasn't good enough for her, which meant it wasn't good enough for anyone to hear just yet.

Her fingers fell lightly over the keys, yet they rang out with a beautiful sound that filled the room. She warmed up her voice a great deal before even touching the songs. She then laid out several sheets of paper before her, which had been scribbled on with her own notes and reminders, and she began to play the bass notes, as well as her own melody. It was a simple practice for piano, though it helped her to hear the music as well as her own part. Her voice joined in with the piano, filling the room with its rather full and strong sound. For someone of her size and character, the voice seemed unreal. Such a large and strong voice, from such a small and shy girl. She sang through the piece before her, stopping and scribbling on the page now and then. Her stops became less frequent as she worked through, and eventually they stopped entirely. She could now sing through the entire song, without stopping to correct herself, and a very tiny, almost unnoticeable, smile crept across her lips at this accomplishment.
