(( Post Order: Mtima, Mezi, Matojo. ))

Days spent in the Jungle were warm and humid, yet often shady. A lone goddess, still determined to keep her true form at all times and to keep her mind off her troubles, was wandering on a relatively new path she had discovered. It didn't seem she would find whatever she had come to the Jungle for, and was starting to wonder how much longer she would spend here. At least today, she'd decided rather easily. Mtima'safi had as much time as she could want to take for this trip, and in a continued effort to make up for past mistakes she would not rush away.

"I've always loved jungle flowers," she murmured to herself, stopping to admire a particularly bright patch that littered the Jungle floor. Little effort was put into paying attention to who was about or whose territory she might be in, and for right now she was content to take a moment for just the flowers.

To Mezi's surprise, he actually enjoyed everytime he bumped into his brother, Matojo. For the first little fraction of his life, the purple cub had avoided all family members like the plague. In his young mind, he had associated all of his siblings with his mother's anger snaps. Of course, he didn't have it quite as bad as Kafiri did, but it was still enough to make him hide out in his beloved flower beds. Then one day, he had happened upon Kafiri by complete chance, and had realized that if he was with a littermate away from their mom, he was totally fine. Then he had started seeing Matojo during the day, away from Mom. It almost seemed that there was a pattern here, and that he should hunt down his other brother and two sisters just to see what they were like when he had them alone.

Right now, though, it was brother time. As he walked beside Matojo, he found that he was actually happy. This seemed to be happening more often lately, though he still held a grumpy attitude when finding new things. Surprises, most especially, gave him an ill mood. So when his chipper walk with his brother was interrupted by finding something incredibley odd, he wasn't the definition of happy. Stopping in his tracks, all Mezi found he could do was stare, mouth agape. What was that thing? It had wings, like a bird! Yet, it could pass for a leopard, if it wasn't so large. Having never seen a lion, god or goddess in his life, the leopon was completely dumbfounded. "Hey, look at that," he whispered, "Matojo, what is that?"

Matojo had recently made the same discovery, that his siblings were better away from their mother. Mezi especially. Where as before it had been a novelty to spend some time with his brothers and sisters, now... he sought out Kafiri from time to time, came on walks with Mezi, and when they had to sleep as a family he tried to curl up next to one or the other or both. He'd try to see if his other siblings were as nice away from their mother in time. At the moment he was content with what he had.

Which is why it annoyed him so when they came across something that was as freaky as they were. Wasn't he allowed to just go on a few walks with Mezi without weirdos? It made him frown and narrow his eyes. Something was wrong about it.

"...I don't know. But it's got a tuft-tail." Like a lion. he'd been told that much and that was one blackmark against the unknown thing right there.

Mtima'safi knelt down to get a closer look at the flower petals and to get a better whiff of the sweet scent that came from them. She didn't hear the approach of the two cubs, but the sounds of their whispers reached her ears- though she could not tell what was being said. She tensed imperceptibly, though she couldn't help but flick her ears back and swish her tail. Not at all worried, she turned to get a look at who was approaching.

Her expression went from serene to mild-surprise at the sight of two cubs looking so familiar but quite new. They could almost be lions, but lacked certain distinctive traits. By the looks on their faces, she guessed they saw something similarly strange about her.

"Hello," she called out in a friendly tone.

The purple cub hadn't noticed the tuft-tail until his brother had pointed it out. A wave of mixed emotion crashed over him as he stared at the yellow creature with new eyes. There was some fear, for lions were supposedly far more powerful than leopards. Mezi had always pictured an angry male, with his mane jutting out of his neck and drool dripping from his overly long fangs. This lion, however, seemed so soft and gentle. It must be a trick. Lions couldn't be trusted, right? "What do we do?" His whisper was hoarse, an obvious tone of urgency in it. He had never met a lion before, and he hadn't ever heard that they had wings. It just made them all the more intimidating.

When the yellow goddess spoke, howeer, the tone was far more soothing than Mezi had been prepared for. He was taken aback slightly by it, so much so that he pulled one of his front paws in the air, as if to back up. If he had been using his brain, he would've turned tail and ran. His ego didn't allow that, though, and a bubble of courage burst in his chest. He would face the monster bravely! Plus, he was curious. Just not curious or brave enough to speak. Instead, he stared as his brother expectantly, as if you say 'you do it'.

Cursed Mezi! As much as he liked his friend-brother, why did he have to speak. Besides...The gentle and soft actions of the goddess at first sent a wave of angry through Matojo - how dare she - but then confused him. Mleli had never spoken in such a nice tone to her son, so it was odd to hear it from a stranger. And such a strange stranger at that!

"Hello. I am Matojo, and this is Mezi. Who are you and where did you come from? You're no leopard." He managed to sound proud and curious, even if his voice wobbled once.

Mtima couldn't help but smile at the cubs when they looked up at her. They didn't look like they'd met a lot of strangers, or like they cared much for her. It was somewhat odd, but it was clearer when Matojo introduced them.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Matojo, Mezi," she said kindly, and with a small bow of her head, "I'm Mtima'safi, and I am certainly not a leopard. I'm the goddess of souls, but essentially a lion." With a grin, Mtima stretched out her wings and resettled them comfortably on her back. She couldn't help but enjoy showing them off a bit.

Mezi hadn't the foggiest idea what a 'goddess of souls' was, but he certainly knew what a lion was. He gave Mtima a look that was dripping with distrust, but also had hints of confusion. Why on earth was she being so cheerful? Lions were supposed to be evil master minds, stupid and slow with big teeth and manes and overly long claws. They were supposed to be horrible monsters that made grunting noises instead of talked, and they were supposed to be smelly. At least... that was how he had always imagined it. To meet a lion that wasn't any of those things was throwing him off BIG time. It was a huge surprise, and Mezi hated surprises. Throwing a glance at his brother somewhat nervously, he finally found some voice to help Matojo out.

"What is a lion doing in the jungle, hm? It's not like a lion can climb a tree, and why would you go to a jungle if you can't climb a tree?" His voice had a very arrogant tone, but was wobbling all over the place. He managed to hold his head somewhat high, even though he himself couldn't climb a tree. That little detail could be left out. For now, all that was important was making sure that this lion knew that she was in leopard territory, and that leopards were quite obviously better than she was. He was still highly confused by her wings, and his mind tried to connect goddess to something, but he decided he'd leave that for later.

"And the trees are too close to fly in when you're big." Matojo pointed with a claw at her wings, raising an eyebrow in a way that clearly suggested she was daft. If Mezi wasn't going to be scared by this Mtima, well, he wasn't going to be either. It'd be like treason. If she'd been a leopard...well, then she'd have been nice. But she wasn't she was a goddess or something.

Which was what, exactly? Matojo had never heard of goddesses. Maybe it was another word for - "...Are you a freak? You're half-bird as well as a lion."

Mtima could see the distrust and distaste in the way they looked at her, and attributed it to ignorance. Afterall, they didn't seem to know what exactly she was and cubs had an excuse to be curious and suspicious of strangers. She smiled kindly at Mezi when asked the question about the trees.

"Actually, lions are capable of climbing trees," she said very plainly, "Just not nearly as able as leopards are, they are masters of climbing, from what I know. As for flying-" Mtima turned to look at Matojo now, "You're very right about that, it's not easy to get in and out by flight in the thick trees. I came in near the edge of the Jungle, where the trees are not so thick." She explained, always keeping a patient and kind tone.

She paused long enough for Matojo to come the conclusion that she must be half-bird, and she might have minded the question except for-

"Freak!?" she repeated, sounding deeply offended at the mere suggestion she might be, "I most certainly am not a freak, and I am not half bird. I am a goddess, an immortal lion- surely you know-" Mtima glanced back and fourth between the cubs, they were both seers. She had to remind herself not all seers were mortal offspring of the gods- but these two looked the same age and like they could be related. The chance was small it wasn't due to divine heritage, except they didn't know what she was.

Still completely unsure of what a god was, Mezi was taken aback by her reaction to the word freak. He had been called one enough to know its cruel sting, but to hear it coming from something that claimed to be a lion and not half bird seemed almost hypocritical. After all, it was a lion's fault he and Matojo were freaks. For some reason, Mezi held the entire species responsible for this, including this bird-lion-god-thing. "Apparently we don't know," he said dryly with a smug look on his face. He was proud to sound cynical, since he had met many a cynical leopard. It seemed to be a common trait, and one he was quick to adopt in an attempt to conform.

For once, Mezi was now at a loss for words. He had nothing left to say. He didn't have a witty comment, snide remark, lie or question to pop out with. There was something about this Mtima character that was bothering him, setting him off. She was different from anything he had ever met, at a level that almost seemed higher than simple physical characteristics. It was something more, but he couldn't put his paw on it. Casting a confused glance at his brother, he tried to put his feelings into the look, tried to tell his sibling what he was thinking without giving it away to the lioness, if that was possible. Then, looking back at her, he had finally come up with something to say. "What makes you think we know what a goddess is, anyway?"

" Yeah, we've never heard of gods. Or immortal." Again she confused the cub, seeming so oddly...nice. He wasn't used to it from random strangers. His aunt and the snake perhaps. It annoyed him and made him as sarcastic and cynical as Mezi. Matojo decided he'd better explain to her how she was wrong on one point;

"Plus, lions don't have wings, only bird have feathered wings. So you have ta be a half-bird and all half things are freaks." Silently he added - 'we'd know'. His entire tone suggeste it was an easy concept to grasp and that she was even more stupid than your average lion.

Not that he'd met any of those besides this odd bird-lion and he didn't really want to...but they were supposed to be stupid, he knew that much.

Mtima was not terribly impressed with the attitudes of the two cubs, though Mezi's smug questioning was better received than being accused again of being half-bird, and thus a freak. The goddess frowned, and wasted no time defending herself yet again.

"For the last time, I am not half-bird, and I personally would not consider anyone a freak for being a half-breed," she declared firmly, and to emphasize her point she stamped her paw on the ground. Mtima did not want to pursue that particular point any further, though she would be happy to explain more about gods.

"I thought you might know about gods because- well, when an immortal has cubs with a mortal, the cubs are most always seers," she explained vaguely, "So, if I had cubs with an ordinary lion, they would be ordinary lions but would be seers. They can see things, the past and the future.."

Mezi was just as unimpressed with Mtima as she was with him. He frowned at her, wondering if she had gone mental early in life or if this psychosis had developed as she aged. Anything that didn't consider half-breeds a freak had to have something wrong upstairs. Even he considered them freaks, and he was one! For goodness sake, the poor lion was bonkers! He almost felt sorry for the creature, seeing as it was a lion and must already have a difficult life, what with being slow and stupid. Being insane must only add to the troubles of life for her. When she popped out with the 'seer' bit, Mezi lost his pity. There she went, throwing around terms again that she had probably made up on her lonely nights. As the goddess went about explaining things, the purple cub hardly payed any attention. What he didn't know, is that his seer power had rooted itself in the present, and his wild visions had to do with events happening NOW. Mezi simply thought they were little fantasies he conjured up out of boredom.

"Right. So.. I'm guessing you have frea-- seer babies?" He cocked a brow, showing his obvious disbelief at all of this. "Why don't you sit on somewhere more comfortable. I'm sure your head hurts." Mezi actually set about moving some leaves together, no longer frightened of the lioness at all. His main worry now was that she was going to pass out from some head injury she had received earlier on. Slowly, he collected dead leaves to make a small raised section of earth. If Mtima did clunk out, at least they wouldn't have a dead lion on their paws. Surely the padding would break her fall.

"Is your kind of crazy contagious?"

"Maybe where you come from, they have different words for half-breeds. Here? Freaks. So don't tell me I'm wrong. It probably a dialect thing and trust me, me n' my brother here know all about half-breeds."

"And never heard of seers before. You need to work on your problem with assuming vague little explinations will do. If you haven't noticed, we're cubs. Means we haven't seen so much of the world. Vague explinations and assumtions just aren't going to cut it" - birdbrain, he added mentally. He was well aware he was being more than rude, but she'd tried his patience with her strangeness. Matojo had just wanted a nice walk with Mezi damnit and he didn't like her oh so kind condescending ways. If he was going to accept seers existed, she'd have to get used to the word freak.

Besides, if she got nasty, he her wings were a hindrence in the jungle. They were small and fast. And Mleli might not liked her cubs much but he was certain she'd not let them be hurt by this so called immortal.
