Today for the first time since it was done, I received a compliment on one of my body piercings. Now, I haven't had it long, but I've had it long enough for a full heal. However, this isn't exactly where I'm going with this topic. While this might not be "intellectual" to some, I've done research on body modification. According to my research, there isn't a single society that doesn't practice some sort of body modification. If this is the case, why do I here about how these modifications are vile/bad/morally wrong, etc from the "mature adults" in the area. Why is it assumed that if I have piercings, I must be a "bad influence" on those around me. So, Discuss: Bod Mod and it's effect upon you, society, good or bad? if you have any

Well, personally, I don't like piercings, tattoos or any such thing. I just... prefer a natural body. A piercing in one or both ears looks good, but I think that in most other places, it doesn't look good. My opinion is a pretty rare one, however.
I don't think it in any way makes you "bad", though. It's simply something you do because you think it looks good/cool, so I don't see why it would say anything about what kind of person you are.

Body modification really doesn't matter to me. I'll probably never get something like that done. Its just not who I am. And I have absolutely nothing against people who adore having it done. Its their own right to do with their body as they please.

as long as its under 3-5 piercings and not in certain places... i find it attractive XD but too much, and it kinda ruins it for me :/.... its possible i'll get a tattoo l8r in life, but a piercing for me? isn't gonna happen... just one more way my enemies can thing of torturing me....
but of course to answer the question, it in no way makes u a bad person... just a lot of older people these days are really ignorant... and according to us... thats not bliss... not bliss at all stare

I love piercings.
I used to have my lip pierced, but I had to get rid of it. I really miss it and plan to get it again someday. I got a lot of stares for it, and a lot of questions. Mainly "Did that hurt?". Well, yeah. A huge needle went through my freaking lip!
I would like to have a bridge piercing, but looking at them makes my head hurt...
Some piercings I can't stand...like the Monroe piercing. It's so ugly. Also, surface and corset piercings, those just look nasty.
Tattoos are awesome, but due to my fear of needles I would probably go into a coma if I tried to get one. rofl

I believe that body modifications are perfectly fine as long as it doesn't bother anyone else. I personally wouldn't get too many piercings or tattoos. I have my ears pierced, once on each side, and I want to get my tongue pierced. As for tatoos, I just want one. In the little spot of skin between my thumb and first finger, I want to get a small rainbow heart because of my sexuality. If I don't get it there, I will get it on the little indentation by my hip bone. biggrin

I am scared to death of needles. So I will never, ever get a tattoo or another body piercings. (each earlobe is peirced. It was done when I was a baby) On that note I don't mind peicings, though that bridge one makes me cringe. Owie. If I didn't mind needles, and didn't hope to join the Army someday, I'd have more piercings in my ears. Anyway, piercings are fine, and tattoos are pretty. My only problem with tattoos are that eventually the eagle on the arm becomes a turkey. happy sixteith birthday. lol. To each his own, if you want piercings or tattoos, go for 'em I say. In schools facial & tounge piercings, unnatural hair color, and 'wild' hairstyles, are seen as 'distractions' and are prohibited. But I feel like a guy with pants sagging past his butt with the vocal capacity of a bullhorn that won't be silent, is much worse. I don't give a person with several facial piercings a third glance; I want to lunge and duct tape both the guy's mouth shut and his pants around his waist.

You know, they pulled that crap when I was in middle school. We went to the Director of Education about, and he tried to tell me that dying hair unnatural colours was a gang affiliation (For the record I'm not black so I'm not gang related).

Gang affiliation doesn't rest soley with one race. True a lot of gangs primarily consist of one race or ethnic group, but every race has at least one gang. EDIT: why am I always on when no one else is? crying

Don't worry, it's not just you. I respond so much because I just stalk the Guild for most of the day. ^_^ Good point, though. Good point.

My mother's take on letting me get piercings as a teenager was that "Hey, do whatever you want to to the outside of your body. I don't care if you express yourself, as long as you're not using drugs to do it."
I had my nose and eyebrows pierced twice, pierced my own lip, had extra ear piercings, and I turned out alright.
