This is important, I am bringing up an important issue! It may not be human rights but I hope you don't mind me posting here. They are planning to drill for oil in the artic in a NATURAL RESERVE animals live here and 1000's of bird species. You know that with oil drilling there are oil spills, think of the poor animals and birds that will die from this, not to mention thier habitat being destroyed! Sign the petition and save animals and birds! www.donotdrill.ca

I've already petitioned all my congressmen about this. And mine are wise and against it (even the republican one). In the end, if humanity keeps trumping over the Earth without a care, it'll bite us back in the a** when we have no resources left. It's already starting to happen in some respects. Unfortunately given human history, we won't start doing anything about it until it's too late. If only the dominant philosophy in the mind of Westerners was to respect all nature and see it as equal to human life....

Seority i belive animals are just here to help humans and if humans need oil get oil but we do waste so much that we need to accuallly kill off more of the living earth jsut to survive in comfort Again, this is an example of humanity's astounding lack of insight.
Humanity is not the "ultimate species", and the world does not revolve around us, as much as we like to think it does. The Earth has been here far before us. Many a species has risen and fallen, like humanity's nations. Rome rose and fell. Same with all other nations, and the same will happen to America. Now, replace the nations with species. Dinosaurs, for instance. They were wiped out, and the world moved on. Same goes for humanity. If we die out, the world will move on.
So, animals are not here to help humans. They are here to survive, just like us. If either of us dies out, no big tragedy. That is what humans so often fail to see, and it astounds me.

Hence, I tend to keep my mouth shut about it, even though I totally agree with you. Humanity needs a huge b* slap to get rid of it's majorly obsessive superiority complex. xd Unfortunately, when we go, it'll be because we've raped Earth so severely it can't sustain large life forms, be they human or otherwise.

To be honest, I'm sitting on the fence with this one.
First off, there is already oil drilling in Prudhoe, Alaska. The studies have shown that the wildlife and oil companies can peacefully coexist without disturbing the ecosystem or population of animal wildlife. The companies have designed the oil drilling facilities to accomadate the wildlife there. 75% of the Alaskans support the drilling in the ANWR. I don't think that many would be supporting the cause unless there were some good to come from it.
Not only that, but the area they will be exploring in is only a mere 1.5 million acres of drilling compared to the 17.5 million acres that will be closed off from any other exploration for oil. The only amount of land they will be actually drilling and developing in is 2000 acres of land. 1.5 acres is only slightly larger than the size of Deleware, its really not too large of an area. If the oil did spill, the pipes are so far underground, it really wouldn't be too devestating to any plant life or animal life.
Also, opening this company in the reserve could open the slots for 250,000 and 735,000 jobs for this project. It could help boost the economy and perhaps lower the currently rising unemployment rates. It would also help to lower gas prices in the future.
The only down side I see to this is that we will be drilling on a natural reserve. If we allow this, how many other reserves and how much more space in them could we potentially be opening in the future?
