hmmm....we (Christians in general) make the mistake of judging other beliefs and faiths waaaay too quickly....so i was wondering.....what keeps you in your beliefs? what...well, what draws you to the Islam religion? what, in your mind, makes you decide to stay a Muslim and what makes you want to be one?
just wondering....

its teaches me simple morals and rules that would be unwritten in life but people just stray away from common sense and do bad things. like it stops me from drinking and smoking or doing anything harmful to myself.
I also think twice before swearing, when i curse or insult i actually feel bad, because in real life theres no real need to do so. its best to be polite. i do that and people like me better for being nice rather than offensive. and somehow muslims are ussualy the most offensive XD
I mean there are somethings i dont like restricts me but also keeps me safe. for example, sex before marriage, yeah its a bummer, but theres less chance im gonna get STD's or weird things from others.
Aslo religious communities are great! they stick to you like glue who ever you are once you get to know them. and you can fall back on your muslim freinds if anything else goes bad in life.
And that reminds me, the Quran has answers for most things. like a motivation for life, be a good person, how to enjoy life and still go to heaven and even help me through simple problems.
I personally think without islam, i wouldnt have any motivationg. And without god i wouldnt be worth living.
Im a muslim and im proud to be one. mrgreen

You honestly want to know why I am Muslim? It's because my parents raised me that way. Both my parents are Muslim so obviously they were going to raise their kids as Muslims too.
I think that if your parents are religious, they will teach you to follow their religion too. Then comes a point in everyone's life where they have to question why they're believing whatever they believe and pick a religion that's right for them.
Of course that doesn't happen to everyone, but it does happen to a lot of people. It's happened to me too.
I'm Muslim because I wanna be. I don't have a reason, really except that I was raised this way and I'm used to being a Muslim.
If I really wanted to, I could easily just become atheist or something. I just choose not to because I don't want to. I find Islam to be a beautiful religion and I am sticking with it.

*thinks some more* okay....i totally get the whole "people-say-they're-Muslims-and-give-us-a-bad-rep" problem.....just from a Christian point of view......
but as for being raised Muslim......
im kinda confused by what you wrote...(im slow...bear with me rolleyes ).....so you decide to be a Muslim because you feel like you should be a Muslim or is it just because you're raised Muslim?
is it something you feel or is being a Muslim about what you're raised on?

koitleen oooh okay......sooo...you've never bothered to take a look at another religion? I have looked into other religions and they don't really appeal to me. When I was younger, the only reason why I would read the Quran was because my parents told me to and if I didn't, I'd probably get a spanking or get yelled at at least. Growing up, I've questioned why I believed in Islam and realized that the only reason why I follow it is because my parents made me and raised me that way. If I wanted to, I could easily change my faith and believe in another religion or no religion at all. I just choose not to because I don't want to and also because none of the other religions appeal to me or fit with my lifestyle or opinions.

I've actually thought about turning Christian or w/e when I was 14. Then I started to imagine the things I would do as a Christian, compared to being Muslim, and I just backed out of that thinking process because I knew I'd hate it. Looking at my friends who were Christian, I knew how they acted at times and I just decided that I'd hate it. I can't really explain it, but I really would have hated being Christian. No offence.
Its only the second generation (and further) I guess that goes through this phase.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, I have no internet.
Like, this dating thats going on constantly. I see my friends do it and yet they just get hurt in the end, so I really don't like things like that. It's like, they KNOW its not going to work out, but they don't care. And eventually that leads up to the point where they get married and have problems in their marrage, 'because' of how they dated in the past.
And ya, some of my friends who are Christian 'are' hypocrites when they say they're Christian but never act like it. Not just Christian, I have some friends who are Jewish and they act like hypocrites with every thing they've said so far. It's really rediculous.

It isn't a Christian thing, it's more of a modern society thing although dating dates back to the 1800's so it's not exactly modern, just the style has changed. Dating in high school isn't serious and is bound to fail. Some high school relationships last a very long time and/or go into marriage but most don't. It's all fun and games at that age anyways. There are ups and downs to dating and just because your friends' relationships didn't work doesn't mean dating overall shouldn't be done because it hurts you. I know people who date and their relationship has lasted all throughout high school and is still going.

Those couples must be really lucky to find the right match then, because by the time they do find the right match and not a perv through all that dating, it'll be awhile from what I've seen.
Not saying it's a Christian thing, but it's influenced by it.
EDIT: Ok wait, when you say dating, do you mean Muslim dating Muslim? Because I was talking about Christian dating Christian.

okay....Why Islam is the one and only religion for me? Why do I stick to it? Why do I keep on believing it verses other religions?
First off and most importantly, it's completely true. The book which we base our teachings off of, The Quran, has been completely unaltered since God sent it down to earth through the prophet Mohammed, may he be in peace. How can we be so sure of that?
After the destruction of Judaism and Christianity (because Satan is just o-so-very manipulating and evil), Allah/God realized that he must protect the holy scriptures, so that it may never be altered and the people who read it can not go astray from studying it. So he made the Quran this amazingly poetic and intricately written book...It's so awesome and written in such a style that no other piece of literature can compare, no matter how hard man tries. And because it is so poetic and just plain awesome, LOL, it's easy to memorize in a snap. God will always aid those who are willing to memorize the Quran if they really want to do it. In fact, my aunt claims that she got it in about two weeks..and my dad got it over a course of a year -_-, he was a bad boy, lmao, always wanted to go throw rocks at the chickens... A book that is larger than a thorough dictionary can be memorized. Amazing isn't it?
So how is that protection? Well, because SO many people have memorized it since it was first written, if it was altered, we would all know because it is embedded into several people's memories. If it was changed, then it wouldn't even be considered the Quran.
an add on reason reason why the book itself is just so powerful is because it has SO many scientific facts that are just being proven today. Like how an atom can be split up and what not. From a book that is over 1500 years old. :] The Quran is the reason why the middle east was the center of math, science, physics, and astrology for SO many years until the crusades started.
Another reason why it "draws" me is because it just works. If the rules in this book were followed and all the stories taken into consideration, there would be virtually no dysfunctional families, poverty, fighting, war, STDs, teenage pregnancy, and just bad things overall. Everything would be in perfect harmony. What this religion teaches is just remarkably true and makes sense. EVERYTHING. And I mean it. Some rules we may not like, but in the long run it's for the best. And after all, we get to go to Heaven after words and, to top it off, we've had an awesome and fun life. xDD
Things like dating and covering up have always been something more so of culture, but it is no doubt a culture that Islam supports. :] I for one do not wear a head scarf or Burqa. But I don't ever show my legs, flaunt mah boobies, or just dress like a ,ahem, slut, in general. I don't know why other see this as demeaning and a weird thing to do. It makes complete sense to me...I don't want guys staring at my chest instead of my face or looking at my legs as I walk by. It's a call for respect, and believe it or not HEALTH REASONS! Generally we're supposed to cover up our hair, mouth, legs, arms, you know the works, right? Now think, when surgeons operate, what do they cover up? What do we do when we're faced with harmful substances and radiation? We cover up exactly those parts. This was, and still is especially recommended for women because we have the miracle of being able to carry and protect babies in our womb. We can't have illnesses entering our body and getting sick.
So God just thought girls were so special, he recommended that we do everything to stay healthy. xDDDD
As for dating, honestly, why do we even need to date this early? There's like a 1% chance that we'll end up marrying the kid. My dad says that I can't date till half of my senior year. Lmao. I say that I'm not gonna worry about it till I'm well into or out of College. OF COURSE I still have like a gazillion crushes, and guys who like me as well ( for the awesome person that I am, by the way, xD not because I'm hot or anything), but I know that these flings aren't going to get me anywhere, so whats the point? Just wasting my tears and time. Yeah there's always the excuse of "experience", but experience is NOTHING compared to the real thing.
and come on, there are hypocrites everywhere. xD
