How long had it been?

With a grunt the stallion took a few moments to carefully draw the scarlet cloth around the wound in his chest. This was proving somewhat difficult given the large tear upon it but he would endure. He'd only been within the Clearings for a few days, had opted not to explore the lowlands in any great depth and instead...favoured solitude. Each night he had moved to a new spot, more so for his own safety and to satiate that eternal demand for security.

In the open he felt so very vulnerable, he need only be found once and he would panic. He would permit this to happen and so, that morning he had chosen to move from the small clearing in the forest and slowly made his way north. He had seen such things from a distance, was vaguely aware of where each landmark lay but still it was a little bit of a guess.

As his braided tail and mane continued to drag lazily upon the forest floor after him, he broke through the edge of the forest and made his way towards the beaches where he had seen very few. For such a beauty spot it seemed rather empty, while he didn't understand this...he would most certainly use it to his advantage.

Yue was resting comfortably on a rock, listening to the sound of the water. The sun was high in the sky, and she had chosen this spot for it's solitude, and the lack of others that would come and go. Other places would be busy, but not the beaches. They avoided it for a lack of fresh water, and the extra effort it took in moving across the sands, and the scarcity of foliage to munch on. For Yue, that was hardly an issue.

She looked up, watching the waves crash with a dark gold eye. There was also a distinct lack of the usual sea breeze today, a fact that might be troublesome when she wanted to leave.

Well, it was certainly troublesome. For one with a pelt such as his, the thickness and colour did nothing to prevent the rising temperature upon his form. So used to higher climates, his coat had adapted accordingly and the increasing temperatures of the lowlands were not pleasant. Rather, he was beginning to develop a slight dislike for summer and made a mental note to avoid this place until it was covered in snow - maybe then it would be better!

Nevertheless, it was without further a due that he rounded the tiny hill and began to drift slowly across the sands. He paused a number of times to examine the rather unusual trail he was leaving in his wake before continuing. Sand held no concern for him, he had no doubt that if he should shake his head violently then it would consequently be removed and thus he discarded the issue.

It was unimportant. He was unimportant.

Pressing on, it was only as he turned his glowing amber eyes towards the lapping waves that he caught sight of the rather exotic (and unique) mare ahead of him. With half a mind to turn round and run, it took a great deal of will power for him to force himself to keep walking. Well, if he skulked she wouldn't see him or would opt to ignore him and it was as simple as that!

Those of the Kawani lowlands were ignorant, that suited him perfectly.

The heat was growing uncomfortable, even though her coat colors were generally light, and prone to at least some reflection of the sun. She stood, moving to change her angle, when the dark figure caught her eye. She went still, watching curiously as the creature approached. It looked like a soquili, but it was so... different. From any she'd seen before. Long braids, that trailed the ground; Armor, and cloak, and a unique headpiece that gave her the shivers. It didn't appear he had anything too different- after all, she knew soquili that wore items much like himself, though differing in styles, for certain; It was the way it all mixed together that gave the (apparently male) soquili such an unusual look.

And he moved like he was wounded. Yue shifted, battling the urge to move closer, and see if the other required assistance. Instead, she turned her body, watching the birds swoop silently.

It was so hot. Now if the mare was struggling with the heat it must have been pure agony for the poor stallion whose black coat served more of a hindrance to him than anything in these climates. As 'exotic' and beautiful as it may have been in the mountains, it was bloody torture down here and it was after a brief time that he took a decision that he didn't often make...

With a grunt, he dropped his wings to the ground. Pausing in his stride, it was easy to see that for some bizarre reason his wings furled upside down. He blamed it on his father (which was true) but it made it a rather intriguing sight to view the measures in which it took to unfurl them. First, they had to be dropped so that their tips drifted along the ground, then they had to be flexed horizontally as though in flight. Following this, they would slowly be drawn backwards towards his flank as the extra bones in the peculiar limbs slotted into place. And then, with a hint of finality they would once again be thrust upwards and forwards in the fashion of traditional wings.

All this was done in a matter of seconds despite the complicated manner in which his wings was folded. It was almost as though they were forced to spin in a 270 degree angle which might have caused pain to another but most certainly not to him.

That being said it was with some relief that he began to flap them around his form to generate some wing against his pelt, glancing briefly towards the mare as she watched him shift.

Was she as warm as he was?

"Fine weather we are having, no?" He enquired with a hint of sarcasm in his voice. Granted, he would have preferred not to speak with her but he couldn't move while concentrating on causing a mini tornado or he'd take flight so perhaps providing her with a little relief wouldn't go amiss.

...Even if it was an act of madness.

Despite appearances though, his dry wit seemed to indicate he wasn't quite as bad as he looked.

Her head tilted, watching the way that the stallion's wings worked. Interesting. Hers certainly couldn't do that. "I suppose." she answered, tone agreeable. She tossed her forelock out of the way, glancing over te stallion again. It appeared she was lucky... her mane was short on her neck, leaving it easy enough to get cool, but he... his braids just looked awful hot. "A bit on the warm side, I would suppose."

She leapt off the rock easily, the sand barely flying as she landed, all four hooves hitting the earth at the same time. "You're wounded." she observed, moving closer to him. Her tail dragged behind her, raking the sand flat after she'd passed. His teeth made her shudder, as well as the batlike wings. Was he a kalona? She'd not met one before, that she could recall. She'd heard stories of them though, None of them very pleasant.

She wouldn't ignore the wounded, and his tone was pleasant enough. Innocent until proven guilty, it was then.

"It is nothing serious," Azumoth replied in a tone that seemed almost automatic. A tone that required little to no thought, or perhaps one that belonged to an individual who was accustomed to such injuries and other afflictions. While most would declare a stab to be serious, he viewed it more as a scratch...it would heal in time, he was perfectly content in that knowledge!

"Mere scratches, some a little deeper than others." He glanced down at his chest briefly and then returned his gaze to the mare who was slowly but surely moving towards him. It took all of his discipline to remain completely stationary, especially when he was so obsessed with his own personal space. Nay, this had been his choice to make - he had spoken up and it was only natural that the mare should approach.

They all did that.

Instead, to distract himself from his internal monologue he continued to flap his wings. A somewhat cool breeze had at last began to encircle him and while he wasn't cooling down at the rapid rate he would have preferred, he was getting there.

"As for the weather...I suppose it would not be the lowlands without some heat, no?"

She stopped a safe distance and peered at the stallion. She was just out of range- she certainly didn't want to get any closer than she had to. He was oddly still. And that wound... "If that's a scratch to you, you must be pretty tough." she spun, moving back to her rock. "I'd recommend avoiding getting sand in it though. Or finding someone who can heal it for you." She leapt back onto her rock, gazing down at the creature below. "I imagine it would be pretty nasty if anything got in it, especially where it is."

Such a strange-looking fellow. Yue couldn't stop staring at him, even though she did know it was rude. "And I suppose it wouldn't be. If you are looking to avoid heat though, have you thought about the forest? You can find a nice shady spot and relax. Nurse your scratches." What right did she have to call him odd? She was a mismatched mix of color herself.

Azumoth released a snort before he had time to catch it. Immediately, a curse drifted from his lips and her took a few moments to regain his composure. He had scoffed of course in relation to her considerate tone. It was unintentional, he truly did appreciate when others demonstrated any form of concern, but when it came in any form of lecture it reminded him of his adoptive mother. That bloody raccoon never knew when to stop - one of the reasons why he was away from his home.

Peace and quiet. A time to reflect.

"Trust me, there has been worse than sand inside it already," He shrugged loosely as he recalled how he had even gained such an injury. A 'weapon' that should have been clean wasn't, it had struck him and it had hurt. He wouldn't deny that but as with all wounds it would heal in time - the very thought of another tending to it horrified him...personal space and all that jazz.

"However, as grateful as i am for your concern I would rather that none touched it. It will heal on its own, the time it takes will simply be Penance." He murmured vaguely before offering an ever so slight smile. Now her tone had changed and while it wasn't one of concern, it still held a lilt (to him) that sounded a little like his 'mother'.

"Have you thought about the forest?"

He lived in the forest! There was a reason he had run out of it - had he been a little more uncouth he would have laughed aloud at the suggestion but again, she had only said it as a form of advice and shouldn't be chastised for it.

...Why were they always like that? So considerate, for the most part...

"Pray tell, why do you stare?" He enquired at last. Well he wasn't really a fan of asking that accursed question (as he already knew the answer) but it was always a little entertaining to see their faces when they realised that he had seen it all - even those fleeting glances they tried to hide.

"You look odd to me." she said bluntly. "I may look the same to you, I realize, but I do so like to get a look at things that intrigue me." a shoulder shrugged. Yue was... a bit on the blunt side, at times. "As for the wound, that is your decision as to what to do with it. Your body is not mine, after all, and it's not my place to tell you what to do with it." Her tone was not considerate, not bossy. Curious, perhaps. Snotty, perhaps, as she had been raised as a bit of a spoiled brat. Much like her mother. Amusement was strong in it now too. He really must be a strong fellow. And determined.

Either way, he seemed safe enough, in the end. She let herself settle back down on the rock, stretching her body out. Just another passing stranger. Her eyes went back to watching him, though she didn't ask any more questions. It took a lot to get Yue to express interest beyond normal curiosity.

He looked strange. He looked hurt. She wanted to ask why, but she'd been raised not to pry... too much. Apparently, it tended to insult people, or make them think you cared.... like the one time she'd asked Uncle Duo a question too many, and had ended up listening to him ramble for an hour.

Blunt didn't really cover it. The mutant visibly flinched as she stated how she felt and his beating wings came to an abrupt halt. It had been the first time that anyone had been quite so forward since he was a foal. Only those of his former herd had such nerve to state the truth and yet...it seemed to be a little more painful than one who wasn't part of them.

...From one not brought up with them.

He was a little at a loss for words as he forced his wings against his sides once more and turned his gaze away. It took him a while to mull over her words, to consider the meaning before at last he shook his head. In complete control, he did nothing more than offer a wry smile as he flicked his amber eyes towards the mare once more.

"On the contrary, you are a beauty - not odd." He stated in a plain tone, raising a brow at the manner in which the petite mare chose to recline on the boulder. Wans't that a little uncomfortable?

Maybe she'd been... a bit too blunt? She saw the stallion flinch, and frowned. Darn, she'd done it again, hadn't she? She shook her mane out of her eyes, glancing away from the stallion to allow him time to ponder her words in semi-privacy. Not until he spoke again did her attention move away from the dancing waves. And she blinked. A beauty, eh? She gave him a quick grin. "Oh, you charmer." her voice was bland, neutral. "But thanks, I think?" It was certainly not the response she had been expecting, that was for certain.

She was stretched out on the rock, rather... flopped. It was big enough that it didn't hurt, but it certainly wasn't the most comfortable place in the world. But if one was in a zen state being hypnotized by waves, it was hard to notice it, until you were up and about.

"I charm no one," His voice became sharp at the idea. The thought of deliberately seducing a mare or courting a mare appalled him. There were times when he desperately wished he could but given what he was, it was inappropriate. For that reason, he had selected never to present himself to a female in that way - he would extend compliments when necessary but only if they were true.

Mere flattery sickened him.

He was not fake, he would not present himself as such!

"I state only what I see," Flicking his gaze towards the rolling waves he couldn't help but notice how relaxing the sounds were, "Observation require no thanks."

The look she gave him now was one of genuine contemplation and consideration. Silence, as she scanned more than just the basic appearance of his body- looked for scars, the way he held himself, the way he observed his surroundings. She had insulted him- she hadn't meant to, though her use of charmer had been bland, and possibly ill-thought. The thought that he could have meant it genuinely had not crossed her mind. Flattery and attention was something she'd been blessed to grow up with- in a family as large and loyal as hers, it was something that a child got constantly.

The stallion had her attention now, whether he wanted it or not. Strange things intrigued her- and compared to most he met, he was strange... or unique. Something fresh.
