The white pelt of the adolescent lioness strode through the grass silently as she dragged the young wildebeest carcass towards the den she slept in. How long ago had it been since she'd come to the Pridelands seeking shelter?

She didn't remember. It wasn't important.

She was still small for her age. Always had been. Always would be. Laying the Beest down a minute, she looked up. She'd followed the stars home from her hunt all night, and it was now mid morning. Normally she would nap by now after a long night, but not today. She didn't feel tired. Coming close to the watering hole, she dropped the carcass and bent her head down, taking a drink and a rest before she would resume her journey to share her kill with others in the pride.

They had taken care of her, a lowly rogue. It was the proper thing to do to commit herself to the wellbeing of the pride. After all, being otherwise nobody, she should ensure the others were taken care of, fed, and safe.

She was just one lioness.

"Wait, come back..!" Chasing after a gazelle wasn't easy, especially on the ill-trained. Since he'd met his father ages ago, Shin had grown considerably... Though it wasn't entirely a GOOD thing. Trying to catch his prey, he got a swift kick and went tumbling.

The young lion was clearly not meant to hunt, especially when one saw just how gangly and clumsy he was. Crashing into a tree, the adolescent moped a bit. There had to be a way to NOT tell Toshiro that he'd failed misserably.

As he righted himself, he brushed his mane out of his face. It blended in almost perfectly with the rest of his black body, told apart only by the fact the hair was much longer than the fur. He wished all of his fur were black... The giant blinding white patch on his left foreleg was of no help to the male, nor were the patches here and there on his body, the one on his nose... Or his tail.

Stalking away from the tree he'd crashed into, he mulled over the tail a bit. As he'd gotten older, the hairs had gotten ligther. Maybe it was how much he'd been in the sun... But it didn't matter, it didn't help his main problem with hunting. Flopping near the watering hole, he didn't seem to notice that someone else was there already. He just wanted some water.

Two white ears pricked and the female jerked upright nervously, nose twitching to catch the scents as she stood still. She eyed the male for several minutes, debating running or seeing if he was a pride member. He looked tired, and thus, was unlikely to attack. He was a teenager, too. Curiously, she decided to risk her neck and padded over.

Subtlely wasn't her strong point as she sniffed at the other lion, not caring if the cold nose in his side was going to end in a swat or not.

Letting out a sound of surprise, Shin scurried forward... Only to land in the water. Sputtering a bit as he moved his mane out of his face, the male looked around for the cold that had touched him.

What he found was a lioness around his age and general size. He would have commented, but a fish decided his tail was good to chomp on, prompting him to practically sprint right back out of the water. Collapsing on the ground in a mess of what fur, he looked back at his tail to see a sizeable fish. It was no gazelle... But it would hopefully save his skin from an angry tangent from his father.

Close inspection showed that he'd been, in fact, the brunt of most of his father's tangents. Shifting so that the other lion hopefully didn't see the mess his coat only partially hid, Shin sat up and looked back at the lioness. "Um... Hi..."

Kabichi jumped back, watching the other lion a few minutes, then tilted her head as he shook himself. He looked like hje'd met up with some rogues, in her mind, and she immediately rushed over and looked him in the face.

Not again., Not rogues again.

"Uh... Uh.. Are you OK? Are the rogues close by?"

It took Shin a moment to realise what the lioness meant. Looking at his back, his ears flopped down in a droop. Oh... That... Rogues hadn't left them, no... The various stages of healing were evident, from old scars to still-fresh wounds. "Oh... Um..." He struggled over answering the question, unable to bring himself to say where they really originated from. After stuttering a moment, he nodded. "Y-yeah... They, um.. Tried to teach me to hunt and... And they decided if I was gonna join their group, they'd have to initiate me..." Oh what a lie.

Kabichi tensed, looking around and sniffing the air to ensure there wasn't anyone close before padding closer and beginning to groom.

"Well they better leave you alone. Rogues are bad to outsiders."

Her own mind flashed breifly back to the rouges whom attacked her family as a cub, and she murred a bit. No, no rogue was going to kill a pridemember if she could help it.

The male shivered a bit at the grooming, watching slightly. "I don't think they'll come back, anyway... They'd probably call me a lost cause." He even FELT like a lost cause. There was no pleasing his father, after all. And there seemed no pleasing the bratty lioness that had followed them back from the oasis by force of her demands. This was a rather welcome relief from them both, really.

"Good! Rogues are nasty business." And she resumed grooming quietly. Atleast he was safe.

Shivering again, Shin couldn't help but lay down. It was... Comforting... Very much so. It made him feel safe in a way only his mother made him feel safe. It made him forget how his father would often beat on him for screwing something up. It made him feel good. As his eyes closed, Shin decided that this time... He'd sleep well, he'd have good dreams... Like he used to.
