Serenade had a small skip to her step, as life had been going quite smoothly lately. She had met a few nice friends, the lands out here seemed full of so much friendliness, and she herself had met a little two-legger that fed her treats whenever she saw her. Serenade only had one thing to complain about, and that was not being able to find her brother. Though it did bother her, she didn't let it drag her down too far; besides, she would find him soon enough. For today, time to find some good food!
She had wandered down the river's bank until she couldn't find anything appealing, meandering off towards an area that could be considered a forest, but the trees weren't think enough to really be a forest. Her white hooves picked through the grasses, her white nose leading the way, looking for something delish to munch on.
"Nothing here...." she told herself, her ears flopping to keep the flies away. "There's got to be something to ea- oh!" Her nose had brushed against a bit of wild grain; it wasn't as sweet as what that human gave her, but it would do as a nice midday snack. Her tail swished behind her as she chomped down on the grain greedily, the bit that was there was so going to be hers!

"Stupid bears, god damn hot headed --"
Rem snorted in disgust and cast a mournful glance back towards the shadowy woods. Those berries had looked so good! Surely there were enough for both of them... His haunches stung and he winced. Too bad he didn't have claws! He wouldn't have needed to run away then. Why, he'da --
-- honestly, I probably woulda done the same thing.
The stallion's mouth quirked in a slight smile. Others might call it cowardice, but he called it surviving. After all, what did he have to protect, besides himself?
Nothing. Nada. And that was the way he wanted it. No baggage to weigh this free soul down!
The stallion broke into a merry trot, ignoring the stinging scratches that marred his back. They would heal, and then he'd have a few more scars to impress the ladies with. He'd have to make up some story, about how he fought a lion and won, and only came out with a few --
-- oh, grain!
He broke into a canter, reached a break in the trees - and spotted Serenade. Oh. A slow grin crept over his muzzle. He flicked his tail and pranced towards the grey-green mare.
"Careful, love. Some people don't take kindly to others eating their grain."

"Mmph?" Serenade's ears caught the sounds of a voice, and it took a moment for her to realise that it was directed at her. Her salmon-coloured eyes peeked up and around as her head lifted itself to see just who was talking to her. The voice sounded familiar....oh!
"Rem!" she exclaimed, the uneated grain slipping out of her mouth and onto the ground infront of her. She was quite surprised to see him! Her hooves danced a bit as she turned to face him, her cheeks flushing a light pink as what he said sunk in. "Oh no, I...didn't think this was anyones. I didn't see anyone around." Her tail swished behind her, brows furrowed as she tried to figure out whos it might be.
"Hmmm....was it yours, Rem?" Her eyes glanced up as his, questioningly, but nervously as well, bits of her mane falling from her face from the sudden movement upwards to look at him. It never crossed her mind that it probably wasn't his, but Serenade always put her unwavering faith into those that were kind to her. While that could be considered a bit admirable, it wasn't always smart. And Serenade wasn't one you could call smart when you first met her.

"Oh yeah." Rem schooled his expression into a worried frown. "I've seen the guy who owns this field. He's a big brute! Wouldn't think twice about trampling a trespasser, even a pretty little thing like you."
Rem switched his tail and cast a nervous glance at the trees nearby. Eyes still narrowed suspiciously, he ducked in close to Serenade and dropped his voice to a whisper. "I even heard that he attacked Princess Soquili once, for just picking a few flowers!"
Oooh, that was a good one! Outwardly Rem held his mask of concern in place. Inwardly, however, the stallion preened. Poor girl! She shoulda never let him find out how guillable she was. Too bad he didn't really have a huge stallion for a friend...
Oh well.
Rem smiled suddenly. "May as well enjoy our last meal together, hmm?" With a wink he turned and snatched a bite of grain, chewing happily.
