My dad, a postal employee, told me that sixty Harry Potter books were shipped early today. The other day he had been explaining how strict the USPO was being as far as security and release dates on the new books, but somehow, apparently sixty of them were sent out throughout the U.S.
I'm not really concerned with this last book (not that I'm some kind of anti-Potter snob, I've just only read the first two books redface ), but I started thinking about how the leaked books would effect so much. It only takes one leaked book for the internet to be filled with spoilers. Had I kept up with the series, I would probably just turn the computer off until sometime tomorrow afternoon.
Also, like many other book stores, my town's local book seller is staying open until midnight for the release. Everywhere I turn, I see all of this anticipation building up, and it makes me sort of glad to think that a book series causes this much commotion.
Sorry that I don't have a more concise point, I'm just surprised in general by the overwhelming reaction to the release of this book. What are your thoughts on Harry Potter (or any series) excitement? Will you be going out to a book seller's tonight? Are you going to wait until you get yours in the mail tomorrow? (My poor dad, delivering all those books ...)

I am not an anti-harry poter snob... I am just not fond of the series, I liked the first three, maby even the fourth but after that I kinda lost intrest. But I still don't want to hear any spoilers, since I have been keeping up with the series (( because all of my friends are harry potter nerds and I would never understand them otherwise )).
Last year a bout five or so of my friends waited untill midnight at boarders for the 6th book to come out, and when it did they stayed up all night reading it! The next day they came in mourning colors, practicaly pukeing spoilers out their ears! THEY DIDN"T EVEN RELIZE THAT THE REST OF THE WORLD HADN'T READ THE FREEKING BOOK! I was so pissed at them for giving away not only :: insert spoiler here:: but how it happened! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! I swear I felt like pounding them all into the ground!
So this year I have planned ahead, since I know this will be happening again in some way or another.... :: glare:: I plan on taking my Ipod wherever I go, and useing it in every public place I can for about.... a week... or untill I get the book and read it... whatever comes first. Probably the week

I don't think I'm going to be able to avoid the spoilers, given my job. We got the books in yesterday, and the audio formats today, and they're all locked in the assistant director's office until 4:45 PM Friday, at which point they will be input into the library's system (we close at 5 PM) to trigger messages to the people who had their names on the waiting list(s). Those people still won't get them until the library opens Saturday morning.
I am SO glad I don't have to work this weekend. We have 19 copies of the book, and already 38 people on the waiting list. The assistant director had to sign so many papers about book security it wasn't funny, which is why she's got them locked up. The only staff even allowed to glance at the books were the ones putting the protective covers on them and stamping them with the library's name. It's nuts.

I am a Harry Potter fanatic. It seems that this happens a lot, because they did this with the last one. That time, One store sold the books a week early. It sucked because when I read a new fanction, it had spoilers galore in it. Oh well. Can't expect much else with fanfic... Still, I can't understand the people who have to tell everyone about everything that happens in book before they have a chance to read it.
I for one don't mind it, but it's not fair for those who do. I am the kind of person who looks up stuff that people should not know about Harry Potter and what not yet, and not tell anyone about it unless they bribe me. I don't want to rain on their parade. It was bad enough when I found out what happened to Sirius in the fifth book because my aunt has a big mouth (she's a year younger that me, what can I do?).

Oh my, Gaia made the news, apparently, after they received a subpoena for information on a user who posted links to a spoiler site. eek
This link is to the news report that featured the story, via YouTube. I still can't believe the security measures in place... Not that I think they shouldn't be in place, just that they're so ... extreme. It contains theories on the spoilers, though, so watch at your own risk. News Report - Gaia and Harry Potter

I'm not sure what to make of the last book. Everyone has these crazy theories that Harry's going to die, but really now, let's think about that: if he died, people would be enraged. The franchise's future would die, along with any chances of people going to see the movies. I really doubt Rowling would kill off Harry without thinking of the financial consequences, but hey, it's her book. I myself would be incredibly disappointed.

No spoilers. I am relieved to have read the book without them. A lot of my own theories were correct as I was reading it.
Rowling has enraged her fans enough by killing off all the decent characters in the course of seven books.

Yes. I don't think she really cares much about the financial end of it. I mean, she's the richest woman in England. Why should she care if her fans stop buying her books now? Besides having some loyalty to the fans that made her fortune ...

I heard tales from bibliophiles who attended the RWA conference this year. Many said that romance authors would treat them cold or of little importance as though the fans waiting in line to get their books signed were nothing but a bother! You think authors would be more considerate of the people who purchase their books.

I doubt that Rowling is thinking of the financial end of it. I haven't read more that the first seventeen chapters (don't worry, no spoilers from me), but I think that she'll definately keep Harry alive, just because she's probably really attached to him, as he is her main character, her creation, her baby. As I, too, like to write, I think she cares too much about Harry (and her fans) to kill him off. Although I still hate her (sort of) for what she did to Sirius, not just at the end of book 5, but throughout the series. I mean, come on. That's just cruel.

oi! book seven was amazing! I'm actually very happy that a book is cause for so much excitement and security. I was lucky enough to be involved in the staffing of the release event at my store (I work in a grocery store) merely because I'm the biggest harry potter nerd there. lol. The security was intense...but the excitement for the hundred or so people there at midnight to get the book was so worth all the red tape. I loved getting to hand out the first copy. It made me all warm and fuzzy inside that this 14-15 year old skater kid from washington was so excited about the book. smile

Well, now that I have read the book and it's ending. I have to say that series deserves a " And they lived happily ever after, The End" I thaught it was an adorable ending. A great treet after all the ups and downs of Harry's life.
And you know what, I think that was her best book yet. I liked it the best out of all 7 of them. Bravo to her! May she go on to write many groud breaking stories! (( should she chose))
You know what else? the books where written as I was growing up.... when I first picked up the first book you will never guess.... I was 11 at the time, so I vertualy grew up with harry. Kinda nifty if you ask me. It probably wasn't so much a coincidence as I would like to think.... since my birthday is about a month or so away from his xd

That's awesome. Only a few months away from Harry's birthday. I stayed up until 5:30 in the morning to finish it yesterday, and Oh My God. I was talking to my dad and we both agree that Rowling needs to continue the series. Highlight: She needs to either write about what happens in the 19 years between the last chapter and the epilogue or after the epilogue with Harry's kids (Albus Severus... crying ). I think that she needs to write about Draco's son rising to power and Harry's kids all have to save the Wizarding world. Harry can die in that continuation, sort of like a family thing to have the kids save the world when the parent dies. Maybe...

*Reads Highlight* Wow, that's something. On another note! xd Personaly, I thought Deathly Hallows was really halarious like *Highlight Tiny Spoiler* when Hermoine beat the living crap out of Ron. xd That was great.
