STORY: In todays world, most everything seems normal. A small, unknown town, though, holds a secret. The town was built on an ancient, sacred ground. The race and religion before it long gone from the earth. This race worshiped the great creatures of the past. Creatures such as Dragons, Unicorns, Phoenixes, Gryphons. All the mythical creatures of the worlds history was included in this list. As the religion died, so did the creatures. Their spirits remained though, and searched for a way to live once more. And in the small town of Crystala, they found it. A small group of children, all born in a span of four years of each other, were gifted...or cursed...with the spirits of the past. Dream of the Infnite Beauty Alexa sighed, looking into the slowly brightening sky. It was the first day of school, but she didn't feel like going in just yet. She was sitting on the bottom step of the school stairs, flipping through the newest issue of her "Seventeen" magazine. It was going to be a long day. She had been there for almost an hour. She wasn't really sure why she had gotten up so early. But she did. At about six she had gotten her favorite smoothie and had come to the school.
She huffed slightly in boredom and walked around to the courtyard. School wouldn't start for at least another hour and she had nothing to do but think. The burning feeling on her stomach had returned again that morning, but she couldn't figure out why. She sighed and shook her head, sitting on one of the benches, she began to hum a wordless tune softly....a song her mother would sing to her as a child. She lifted her shirt, only gently, to trace the mark on her body. She had been born with it, but doctors could never figure out why. They said they had seen other cases...but it was almost as if she had been born with the tattoo.

It wasn't for another hour that school started. The first day, to be exact; where teachers would be talking all day, explaining what their classes were to have and be worked with throughout the long year. The students would watch with curiosity and excitement as their summer finally coming to an end, and some would be more than disappointed as they dreamt off, the teacher's words unclear in their own little world. Others would immediately fall asleep, so used to sleeping in and staying up late. But all and all, the colours of the people in the teenage world of high school were to come together again, separating themselves into groups with their friends, fresh gossip about one an other's summer the topic for the next few weeks and how excited they were to there. Remington could only smirk and laugh at such behavior.
He was one of the boys who literally suffered from "Senioritis", even on the first day. They say, that during a students last year of school, they become lazy, laid back, excited and unable to do their work because they're excited to graduate. Remington, going into his senior year on this very day, had already been infected by such a proposal, the slouch of his shoulders, slung backpack and continuing yawns a mere example. He was only going to school because he had to, and well.. for other reasons: first of all, he and his friends never really got a chance this summer to hang out altogether for a good amount of time. One was always busy with his parents, the other on a trip, one grounded because of a mistake they made. In school, since they all had lunch together, they could hang out, skip, and there wouldn't be parents' wishes to hold them back. he second reason was the girls: Remington hadn't had a lot of such flirtatious company this summer, since he could never keep a dedicated relationship going anymore.
Well, and the fact that he could be such an airhead. As the two-story high school came into view through the trees as he continued to walk down the road, his house merely blocks away, he couldn't help but to think of the other reasons on why such things were problems. It was one of those things that the government usually kept secret, that parents tried to shelter their children for because they would else wise be considered a freak. Remington was a creature of air, one who needed to be of a free spirit, not one tied to one woman constantly. It was fun to mess around with them here and there, but other than that, they were pointless and worthless in his eyes. Remington was a spirit of freedom, of air and clear skies--- He was an Anka. And no one knew.
How had he pulled that off? Well, Remington didn't discover such a spiritual energy until his freshman year at this same high school in Crystala. Of course as a child his parents always thought there was something wrong with him because he was so light, wondering why he ate so much more than his older brother Ethan did or any other children for that matter. His bones were as light and thin as a birds, his body more muscle than fat ever; even being a senior in high school he weighed less than 110 pounds! With a lean, tall body, the girls were always attracted. Remington could only smile and smirk at that--- if only they knew. If only they knew the power he had in himself, if only anyone knew. the problem was, he could never show it because an Anka was so large. So through his angst of freedom, Remington was a free, trouble-making spirit, with the physical abilities no other had. With Avian blood and bones, along with in his body, he could run for much longer, could fight much stronger and was much more agile.
He stood across the street now, standing and staring at the school before him. He couldn't help but sigh to himself; his parents had stayed home early this morning only because they would make sure he would make it to school. But his friends were waiting for him.
Besides, who said he had to go to class, anyway?

Dream of the Infnite Beauty Lexie looked over and noticed one of the students standing across the street. Just....staring. What was he doing anyway? She put down her magazine and tilted her head. She had taken her iPod out, but now turned down the volume to that as well. What a weird thing to do, just staring at the school. She stood, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. She didn't want to go talk to him, but she certainly was curious.
She took a step forward, then another...and another. She was doing this all slowly, but soon picked up speed. She headed toward the opposite curb, staring right back at him. After a moment, she crossed her arms. She started a moment longer, then finally uncrossed her arms and called across. "What are you doing? Why are you just staring at the school? It's kind of weird."
She was definitely the outgoing type. And this must have been pretty obvious by now. She once again tucked a strand of ebony hair back. She did this often...her hair was always falling out like that.

With a blank look, Remington switched his gaze downwards, to where a voice echoed out to him through his thoughts about the school before him. At first he stared at the girl with a 'WTF?' kind of look, then grinned. Why, a girl, coming up and speaking to him when he wasn't even fully on campus yet! It must've been his lucky day. Whether cars were coming across the street or not, Remington adjusted his backpack on his shoulder, striding across the street in his tall appearance with a sly smile across his face. Once he reached the curve, Remington stepped onto it with one foot, swung over onto the curve quickly and gracefully, muttering things to himself about "not enough air" or something like that. Finally he turned to the girl, a curious look in his playful eyes.
"Now why should a pretty girl like you care? I'm a mere idiot, staring off into space a freakin' high school for Pete's sake." He crossed his arms, tilting his head to the side with a playful grin. Most girls usually liked the playful, teasing part in him; the women these days seemed... turned on by such 'bad boy' behavior. What was one more girl on the first day? if he won someone over with school not even starting yet, his friends would definitely give him a high-five on the pretty catch! "I mean, being a good student you'd probably be in the school by now, wouldn't you?" by now he was walking around, his tone growing sarcastic and even somewhat rude, but he couldn't help it; the thoughts and attitude came natural with him these days. Even if she had a boyfriend he could beat the guy to a pulp, so Remington held the air about him that he could literally say anything he wanted to a 'wench.'
He turned around, taking a few steps forward as he remembered the girl was in front of the school as well. At that, he turned back at her, now with an odd, almost scrutinizing glare, "Now that I think about it, you shouldn't even say that to me because you were in front of the school too!" he snorted at that, adjusting his backpack again as he stood up straight waiting for the girl's reply.

Dream of the Infnite Beauty She listened at first, but as his tone changed to sarcastic, she crossed her arms, an eyebrow raised. By the time he finished, she had already started ignoring him. He seemed to have an attitude, but he would soon find she had one of her own. As he turned back to her. She would be putting her hair up. As he said his last sentence, she would be tying a red bow around the ponytail. She looked over with an "apologetic" look.
"Oh, I'm sorry. Did you say something? I guess I lost you when you got so rude." She was only playing his game right back, not really trying to be mean. "I suppose if you must know, though. I came early to enjoy my smoothie in the front of the school. I never go home. My parents feel....oh never mind. You wouldn't understand anyway." She turned and shrugged. "Well, I think I should be getting inside now." She pulled her navy blue hoodie tighter around her and brushed past him. She made sure, though, that her shoulder brushed him gently, and knew he would get a whiff of her sweet perfume, as well as her lavender shampoo as her hair brushed past as well.. It was obvious he was a flirt, and what better way to deal with a flirt than to tease them.

He noticed the actions she had started doing near the end of his rude and sarcastic behavior, but he took it as she was listening intently while trying to persuade his flirtatious behavior. After he finished she finished tying her hair up, looked at him with one of those curious looks, and what she said stunned and angered him! Why, she was playing him! No one ever did that! For those first few moments Remington felt beaten and won, but then he flushed with aggravation, crossed his arms and waited silently as she answered politely one of the random questions he had thrown at her. He tried to look away, to try and seem like he wasn't paying any attention at all either, but it was so difficult to try and act even more childish than he thought he actually was.
Remington thought that as she began to leave past him that was going to it with that girl, the young women added to his 'ruthful chick list' he somehow kept in his head, but no, she had to go and brush his shoulder like that. Territorial with the animal inside, angered by her previous actions, but the curious flirt still within him, he could smell the perfume she used on herself that morning, the scent in her hair from shampoo. With watchful eyes he peered after her, curious and ready to follow. It's the first day of school. I haven't seen my friends yet. I'll just take the chance of not being so rude this time! With a new attitude he jogged forward and stopped in his tracks in front of her to stop her from entering the school, a playful grin on his face.
"Alright, I was a bit sarcastic and rude. It's the first day of school, what do you expect? I'm a senior who's been without a woman for three months!" he put his hands on his hips, "Besides, I haven't seen you around at all. At least not from last year. You new or something?" he tried to sound more friendly and chattery, seeing this girl was one of the difficult ones to win over, so he would play it cool and easy so she wouldn't start anything about what a jerk he may be. It would be a terrible reputation for the starting of his senior year!

Dream of the Infnite Beauty [[- xp eww...it's short...-]]
She looked at him with a cocked eyebrow once again. "Oh, so you're a player. I see how it is. Can't go three months without a girlfriend? So how long can you go with one? Three days?" She laughed softly. And for her attitude, she actually had quite a beautiful laugh. It was soft and warm, and seemed gentle. It was much like her personality, after you got to know her of course. "You're not going to get me that easy."
She smiled at him, though, and reached forward. She was tempting him...and having fun with it. As she leaned, she got extremely close, but instead, pushed the door behind him open. After, she did a twist and walked backwards through the door. Yet, she still held it open for him. "That doesn't mean we can't be friends. I'm Lexie. And yes, I'm new here."

[Hehe, that's okay. ^_^]
Remington glared at the young woman at her teasing comments. Well, of course relationships were difficult for him to handle; after so many weeks, maybe even days he got sick of them, feeling tied to the woman and kept like bird in his cage. A relationship gave him the feeling of pressure of choice between freedom and bond; with freedom, he could still be the person he wished to be without worrying about someone else or someone worrying about him. With a bond and relationship to a woman it was much different; she would care about him, worry about him, question him, want to always be with him. And although the company of a woman was nice, it wasn't for too long with Remington. He just couldn't stand the feeling of being tied forever to one girl for the rest of his life, like his own talons tied to the glove of a bird keeper. His parents, and even his brother, always told him he had to settle down one day. But settling down was like torture.
The senior thought he finally had the girl within his reach as she got closer and closer to him, as if his change of personality within seconds gave her a change of heart. He was even mroe shocked when, for the second time, she went right past him. He was about to say something rude once and for all about her teasing behavior, but once he saw her she was simply opening the door and waiting for him. With a happy grin he stepped into the familar front office of the school, finally getting to hear the name of the... different, seemingly one of a kind girl. "Well, nice to meet you then Lexie!" he laughed, adjusting his backpack once more out of excitement. She had said they could be friends! This was definitely different; all the girls he had met before were so flirtatious or completely rude. Lexie was like both.
And he wanted to know why she was so different from all the rest. A friend indeed. Since one hand was holding his backpack on his shoulder, Remington had to hold out his other to Lexie, "Name's Remi." He said as politely as he could, the same feeling he got with every girl he first met coming into his body. But it won't last. It never does. He thought as he waited for Lexie to shake back.

Dream of the Infnite Beauty Lexie looked at Remi's hand for a moment, then shrugged her shoulders. She didn't often shake hands...the last time she tried, she lit the person on fire. But it seemed ok. She didn't have that strange feeling in her blood. The feeling of flame...the feeling of heat. That wasn't there this time. She smiled and took his hand. "Well, Remi. If you weren't such a flirt I'd say happy to meet you." She laughed. She was obviously joking. She was actually very happy about it though. She had made a friend on the first day. Even if he was a player...he was still a friend.
She decided it would be best to start up a conversation. Things had been a little confusing to start with, her having such an attitude and him being so rude...but she did want to get to know him. He was interesting. "So how long have you been going here?"

Remington couldn't help but grin when she took his hand, glad he had made at least a little progress in not getting himself screamed at or anything. He moved away from her slyly, shoving his hands in his pockets and he slowly started to walk down the hallway, looking back to see if she could follow. The hallway was very nice and large, carpet used as flooring and the main office throgh glass doors on his left. To his right were even more doors for dean offices and other according things; the dean's office seemed to be one of his favorite places to go throughout the year. Or to be called to. The guy's name was Mr. Henderson, a strict and broad guy who always seemed to be too big even for the school uniform. Slowly Remi couldn't help but pear inside to see if he was there, definitely not wanting a "good morning" or "be good this year" when school hadn't even officially started. When Lexie asked him another question, he looked back at her and grinned.
"I've been here my whole life. My house is a few blocks down; since my parents are..." he stopped walking, pausing as if looking for the right thing to say, "Since they're have pretty good jobs and are well met here, they say they're never going to move..." Remi almost said in a dreamy tone, a different, moe hard look to his eyes, as if utterly disagreed with them. It was the same thing that always protruded his spirit: living in the same place his whole life is like confinement. He didn't even know why he was still here, when he could have his license, get a job and start living on his own. Because I'm lazy and don't want to. Which was the bare truth that he couldn't hide, even grinning at the prospect. He had had a few jobs during his highschool years, but never kept them since he was always late or didn't pay attention. "A one track mind," as they'd always say, "Busy thinking about his shift being over that he can't pay attention to the actual work."
He smirked, trying to hold a laugh in at the old expressions some of the managers had had on their old, wrinkled faces. But, pushing that aside, he gave Lexie a curious look, "So, where'd you move from then? Since your new and all?"
