A flash of mostly white shot across the dry plains. He'd just seen a hyena, or so he thought. His mother had told him about these creatures- dangerous and ugly they were. Sekizen hadn't been seen, but he had watched they beast move with frightening speed. He wasn't sure even if he was an adult that he could outrun one.

Even though he thought he'd be far enough away, he felt a need to keep fleeing. for all of the emotions that he could hide, fear was the one that he had the hardest time concealing. It only brought anger to himself, but anger was easily hidden for the lion, and he just shook it off as he kept running on.

Eventually a rather large rock seemed enticing for a place to relax, and he took the chance. A small pool of water hid in the rock's shadow, evading the scorching sun. Sekizen dipped his different paw in it, as if he could wash the blackness off and be like his family members, but only ended getting his paw wet. He sighed and gazed upwards, wondering what else would happen with the day.

It was a lovely sunny day, and Sineri intended to make the most of it, for Tetemeko was nowhere in sight today, and she had no worry he'd accidentally get mud all over her again. Not that their meeting hadn't turned out good in the end, but since he liked to dig a lot, apparently, she didn't want to see him all the time. Too much of a risk, she decided.

She approached the water, where she intended to sunbathe this morning, as it was close to home, but stopped at the sight of Seziken. Once again, she thought there were simply too many lions milling about the lands; you couldn't go somewhere worthwhile without company either being there already or showing up soon after. It was quite the nuisance at times, especially since she preferred to sun herself in quiet and solitude. Her father, though, had impressed manners upon her, so she couldn't very well tell Seziken to go away so she could relax. He'd been here first.

She crouched by the water's edge, her pink tongue dipping below the surface to scoop up a drink, and after this she did intend to mosey off somewhere else to see if it was at all possible to find somewhere without anyone to disturb her.

Sekizen perked up at the sound of someone approaching from the other side of the pool. A Pridelander by blood, he could tell by her colors. That grass-colored pelt that was perfect for hunting was a tell-tale sign. He wondered who her parents were; maybe she was a princess, or she could just be some relative of royalty, or maybe it was just a fluke that she had the color, and it could be that she had no relation to any pridelanders.

He pondered on this when she began to take a drink. Well, the little lion thought to himself, I should probably either talk to her or leave. Honestly, he didn't want either- He wanted some company, but he didn't really want to talk to anyone. A little odd, yes, but that was just how Sekizen was.

He finally reached the conclusion that he'd rather talk, at least he could talk for a little bit then take off.

"Hi," Sekizen said emotionlessly. "I'm Sekizen, who are you? I haven't seen you around," he added to the female, waiting for her to finish her drink before he got a response.

Seziken guessed correctly; Sineri was, actually, a princess of sorts. At the very least, she was a member of the royal Pridelander family. Her grandfathers were Mufasa and Scar respectively, though she only knew about Mufasa. The late and great king was her beloved father's grandfather; Sineri had never met her mother to find out about her lineage from that side of her gene pool.

Her tongue stopped lapping at the water as he spoke, and her red eyes lifted to look at him. He wanted to talk, and she wanted to sunbathe in quiet. Lovely. Still, she loved her father Ezeoha dearly, and he wanted her to have good manners, whether he was there or not.

"Sineri," she replied, lifting her head again. "Well, I'm always here somewhere. Haven't seen you, either. Are you new to the lands?" He most certainly did not have the traditional Pridelander colours, so her question was natural.

"Nice to meet you, Sineri," Sekizen said. "I've been here as long as I've been alive. My dad's not a pridemember, though," Sekizen said honestly. Though deep down he wished his father would be around the pride. How wonderful it would be, to be together. It made the juvenile depressed that his family was broken. However, like everything else, he locked this inside, not giving the slightest hint to the storm that raged behind his smile.

He shook his paw quickly to get some of the excess water off it- he desperately wished for some of the black to come off too, but sadly, it didn't.

She nodded her head in reply, and straightened herself up properly to look at him. They seemed to be around the same age. Why hadn't she seen him around before? Ah, well. She supposed it didn't matter any more. They'd met now, after all.

"You, too," she replied, keeping up this politeness stuff. It didn't grate on her or go against her nature... it was just an awful lot to remember to do for people she didn't even know, and who might not even return the favour. At mention of Seziken's father, though, she merely shrugged her shoulders lightly and said, "Neither does my mother. I just live with my father here, and my brothers and sisters."

Her indifference to a split family rubbed him entirely the wrong way. Doesn't she care? What about her mother, while she wanders alone? What if her mother's in trouble, or what about how her father feels- he must miss his mate! Sekizen raged behind the straight face that he wore. He'd never met someone so indifferent to the fate of half of their family. He was hurt by the lack of a father-figure in his life, and couldn't honestly comprehend how someone could be ok with the lack of a mother. He supressed the feelings extremely well, for being so polarly opposed to her opinions.

"Perhaps it depends on the circumstances," Sekizen said neutrally, forcing himself to make eye contact as he said it.

Despite her attitude, she was hurt by her mother's absence as well, though she knew she didn't know the whole story behind it all, and so tried to keep it in check. Though, what child would not feel hurt and perhaps even angered at being left behind by a parent, and a mother no less, who was supposed to nurture and care for her young the most? No, she was hurt... she just buried it deep down, until she knew all the facts that surrounded the issue. The result was something that could, perhaps, be taken for indifference, and caused the calm and fairly neutral expression on her face as she slowly sat, curling her tail around her paws.

"Maybe," she said in reply. "Maybe there was a reason for leaving us all." She had been thinking about what this reason could be for a long time. She just had to get the courage to ask her father for the full story.

Sekizen discarded the dislike he'd just developed for Sineri. If he could read minds, he would see that she felt the same as he, and would forgive her completely. Unfortunately, as he couldn't, he still regarded her ignorance with disgust.

But the young lion couldn't keep ahold of the negativity, he disliked it so, so he buried it deeper inside him. Someday, perhaps, the lion would explode from hiding everything from everyone, but for now, he seemed fully capable of keeping himself under pressure.

But her words seemed to hold some resentment- and he thought that perhaps he was mistaken about her.

"I'm probably better off not following my father, though I don't know him very well. I'm sure that if he didn't feel like sticking with his family, I can't be missing much," Sekizen thought aloud. He would always wonder, though, what life would be like if they had stuck together.

Fortunately, Sineri couldn't read minds, either. If she had possessed this extraordinary ability, she would have walked away from Sekizen right then and there. Such a snap judgement about her personality would have irked her an incredible amount, and she would have regarded his shallow-mindedness and apparent habit of jumping to conclusions in the same way he regarded her supposed ignorance.

But since Sekizen kept everything hidden, she got not a hint of what he was thinking about her.

"I don't want to know my mother on any personal level. If she doesn't want me, I don't want her. All I want to know is if there was a valid reason for leaving my father alone with five cubs." She was staring at her reflection now. True, she didn't want a relationship with her mother now; she didn't want to be anything like her. And she was just glad she looked like her father instead of her mother.

Sekizen nodded, not having thought about it like this... Would he really want to know his father? Would he, even if he knew his father, want him to even be around? Sekizen looked down at his black paw, the marking of his that came from the male. What if his dad had done atrocious acts, things that should never be spoken of? Or if his father would do those things to him? A stressed look crossed his face, Sekizen had thought he had the way he felt all figured out... Now he wasn't so sure that he was right.

A little voice peeped up. "What if she had to leave? Like if she had a Pride commitment, and really wanted to stay but couldn't? Or what if she'd been driven out?" He asked desperately hoping that he didn't deep down feel the same about his father. He wanted to like his father, wanted to believe that he was a nice guy who just got into a bad situation and had no choice but to leave. Instead, a type of realization was breaking through Sekizen's denial, and the only thing to show it was that stressed face he'd made a minute ago and remained etched onto his features.

Sineri blinked as Sekizen suddenly started looking stressed and desperate, and she realised then that Sekizen probably thought very different about his father than she did about her mother. He seemed to want to believe there was a magical reason that his father wasn't here, rather than the truth of the matter, whatever it may be. Even though he might be one of the lucky ones, and a legitimate reason might keep his family from being whole, Sineri doubted it. If you looked around, there were a lot of single parents in the world, in the pride, even. It was just... one of those things she'd decided to accept, because she couldn't change it.

But while she thought she may have gone too far for him, distressed him more than she should have, even if it had been accidental, that didn't stop her from being honest.

While Sekizen's words made sense to her, she shook her head. She didn't believe that. "If there was a good reason why she couldn't be here, my father would have told us about it long ago. No, I don't think it was unavoidable that she had to leave."

Sekizen could tell, he was loosing his composure. The cub sealed it all back in, replacing the stress with that neutral look. He scolded himself for letting himself go like that, shame on him.

Still, he took her words as if she spoke of his situation with his father. And in all honesty, she was probably right. He really didn't want to think that his dad just plain didn't care about him, but... it was an undeniable truth at this point. He hadn't stopped in to check on them, not even to check on mom!

"You're right," He conceeded, voice almost monotone, impossible to tell whether he really felt neutral or if it was just a cover up.

Sineri frowned as a neutral and blank look came over Sekizen's face, and somehow it freaked her out. Well... not freaking her out as in giving her the heebie jeebies or anything; it just seemed unnatural for someone as young as him to look like he had as much feeling as the boulder she'd sunned herself on yesterday. It was weird... Shouldn't he be bouncing around and making a nuisance of himself? That was what her brothers and sisters did all the time. But though she'd like them all to just shut the heck up sometimes, how Sekizen was would not be what she had in mind.

"Why do you do that?" she asked abruptly, staring at his face, that which seemed to lack any definite expression, even leaning closer to him from across the little pool of water.

"Do what?" Sekizen asked, once again neutrally. He didn't imagine he could be bugging her with the cover-up that came naturally to him. He dipped his black paw into the water again- it was a habit of his. "Hide my paw?" He asked. He'd unconsciously kept that one further away from her the whole time, just realizing that that's what he'd been doing. "Well..." he started explaining.
