My favorite book of all time is written by Frances Hardinge, and is called " Fly by night". If you can find it, read it. I pity those who do not know it's greatness.
I've been trying to get ahold of bram stokers writeings, but time is kinda limited in the reading department as of late.

If you can get a hold of the complete and unabridged version of Dracula, then take the opportunity. It can be a difficult read, but it's in its original form and hasn't been altered in any way. All other versions have been modified to make the reading easier.
It took me a little while to get through it, but it's well worth it. All the stereotypes about vampires came from Bram Stoker, but with my own writing I don't conform to many of them.
Even more difficult than that though, is Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island. I have the complete and unabridged version of that as well, and my word that is HARD to read. It's the old seafaring language that tends to get you if you don't know much about it. I knew some of it, but the extent Stevenson uses it to just makes the book so difficult for people who aren't familiar with the language. Great book though.

I'll have to look for those. You can never have too many classics.
I haven't read much tamora pierce, but I own quite a bit of her books. I just haven't gotten to reading them yet. Result of garage sales.
Has anyone read " The Howling"? It's supposed to be really good, but I haven't come across it yet.

Tamore Peirce rocks. I also like what I've read of Susan Fletcher, as well as Terry Brooks. My current favorite books are Twilight, Maximum Ride, and The Dresden Files. None of them are related to the aforementioned authors, but they're all very good and I urge you to read them. ^ ^

I've read all the books, but my favorite is number seven--for obvious reasons. (The T-Rex? Awesome. xD) But my favorite book would have to be Tigana. I'm not sure it's "classic", but it's a really amazing read. It's by Guy Gavriel Kay; I'd really recommend it.

Guy Gavriel Kay really is a great author; my history teacher let me borrow his copy of The Summer Tree and it was fantastic. For classics, I like LM Montgomery (think that's the name). They wrote Anne of Green Gables, and while the beginning is slow, the overall book is pretty good. Oh, but I adore Frances Hodgson Burnett! They wrote the Secret Garden, which is a charming little book that I love. They also wrote the Little Princess--one of my all time favorites. People should really read Burnett's works, they'll blow your mind. I also like Hans Christian Andersen. He writes many great fairy tales that I love: The Little Mermaid, The Marsh King's Daughter ( heart ), and the Snow Queen ( heart heart ). Fantastic stories. I have one more--Jules Verne. He wrote "The Mysterious Island". I never finished that book; it was too long and I could only have it for three weeks (library book), but what I read was fascinating. A lot of it I had to reread for clarification, but man, that's a good book. xD .........I never realized I'd read so many classics............. Oh, and I've read Shakespeare's "Midsummer Night's Dream" something odd like that. Not impressed, really.

I have to agree that Paolini is an amazing, young, and talented writer. It seems to me that a few names were forgotten. What of Poe? It is not so difficult a thing to be able to bring a reader into the world that an author is trying to create, it is a much more challenging task to scare them. But I have to agree, Terry Brookes is great, as is David Eddings. Just a note, a great, new, well fairly new author is Robert Newcomb.
