Hello there! I've joined the band team this year, and I'll be entering my small colorguard team in my Freshmen year when school starts up, Alas, I have no prior training. Band Camp is coming up next month, and I was wondering if anyone could give me a URL to some website that might teach me the basics of Colorguard, as I can only spin the flag at the moment.

Actually, don't think that's possible. Guard is more physical learning than just reading. Unless you've been doing it for a while, you won't pick anything up online.
However, if I were you, I would ask your captain very nicely to teach you what she considers basics, since those are likely to be included in routines somehow or another.
Sorry if I'm not being very helpful!

Yeah. Guard's very physical, and so you'll need someone physically there. I would suggest learning basic moves and tosses, and schedule extra time with your captain/instructor to learn them if need be.

Good luck babe It depends on the school, I think. At my high school, they have 12 new guard who have never spun before, and I went back and helped teach them at band camp.
College is a different story tho....at my school most of the guard spins at drum corps level!

Your best bet is to ask either your captain, instructor or senior guard member to help you. Preferrably someone patient.

Good luck babe I joined guard last minute, so I learned everything during band camp. That sucked. Learn everything you can before band camp. But what people here are saying is right. You have to be doing it. Ask your captain to help you. She'll probably be quite willing to help you catch up before band camp.

Well, since every one has already told you to go to your team leader, i would say to do that as well. you could also go on youtube to at least to recognize the basics. Although it does vary from guard to guard it still helps. If you don't know some of them they are!
FLAG: Flutters Dropspins cookies/figure 8s/stirs push-pulls push-pull toss (2/3 counts maybe?)
Your team might call them different things but atleast you'll know what they look like. My guard's weapon line is not a basic, but i don't know about yours.
