The moment Shade had gotten a breakthrough on a special art commission was the moment that Antony had dragged him to the mall, intent on getting more clothes than the paltry few outfits that he already had.
He was dragging his father through the store, heading for the boys section when something caught his eye. "Look, Father, they have crowns."
"Ah... yeah," Shade said blankly as his son stopped in the toy part of the store.

"Mama Estelle!" Manuela called, struggling to hold up the load of outfits that were drapped over her arms. Her mother had taken a seat near the dressing rooms of the department store, knowing full well that they were going to be there for a while. For now she simply waved to Manuela, letting her know that she was still watching. The girl was over the moon, having been told that she could pick any clothes she wanted in preparation for starting school. She piled her current load into a little basket, finding it easier to manage, then continued on her crusade. But something caught her attention. There was a boy in very interesting clothing, but the thing that caught her attention most was his gold accessories. Feeling brave, she walked over and tapped him on the shoulder, smiling politely.

Antony turned, distracted from the crowns to look at the girl behind him. He smiled, bowing slightly. "Hello," he said with an adorable smile. "Are you shopping for school, as well?"
Shade could only silently sigh in relief at the fact he had been distracted from the crowns. Even if the kid would have noticed they were plastic sooner or later.

Manuela couldn't help but blush when he bowed, not many people still acted like that, it was kind of sweet. "I am," she told him, glad to find someone she might be going to school with, "And I was just wondering where you got those lovely arm pieces, you've got some nice style." Maybe she was overstepping her bounds, but who cared. Certain things were important, like looking good on her first day of school.

"These?" he asked, looking down as he remembered he was wearing his most favorite outfit. "I've always had these, actually. I think I came out of the cabbage with them on."
"He did," Shade said, leaning over slightly. "He even keeps them on the table next to his bed at night."
Antony had the good grace to flush at that comment.

Manuela laughed quietly, covering her mouth with her free hand, "Well then you were born with style!" That was interesting, none of the other kids she'd met so far seemed to have much interest in fashion. In fact, Riley had seemed generally opposed to it. Maybe since they were both shopping he'd like to help her? "My names Manuela," she told him, "Maybe you could help me make a few decisions." She gestured to her basket, laden down with possiblilities.

He turned to look at the clothes, his eyes gleaming. He really did like picking out outfits. His father wore the same basic clothes daily, Jack didn't own anything that wasn't older than Antony was, and Bruns, Evie, and Callisto didn't wear clothes at all. This was an opportunity he couldn't pass up!
"I would be honored," he said with a slight bow and a grin. "Which are your favorites? We'll work from there."

Manuela beamed at his offer, reaching into the basket to pick up her two favorites. She held one of them up, a black and blue plaid tanktop she had paired with an ivory turtleneck. "I like this one for the contrast," she told him, "Maybe with a pair of dark jeans. What do you think?" It was good to have an opinion she could count on. Mama Estelle always told her everything was lovely. That wasn't very helpful.

He nodded. "I like it," he said seriously. "You could even add a gold necklace."
It was decided, Shade thought with a sigh, his kid was gay. He had always wondered, actually. All the fashion, the prince movies... He turned to eye the toys while the kids talked clothes, wondering if a water gun would be a good idea.
It was hot enough!

And he was good with accessories! "Really?" she asked intently, "I was thinking more along the lines of silver, but come to think of it gold would be lovely too." She waved her hand to him, moving over to sit on a bench near the shoe department. Setting her basket down on the floor beside her she picked up the next outfit, holding it up for scrutiny. This one was simpler, a pair of olive cargos paired with a newsprint shirt. The shirt was a light fabric, stretchy and form fitting. "I was thinking maybe some silver pumps and a charm bracelet."

He nodded, seeing it. "You're going to have to get a neutral bag," he said with a nod. "Like black, so it goes with everything."
He was going to get a dark blue one, since he preferred wearing things that went well with his hair. That meant a lot of blues, some greens, and black and white, of course.

Manny smiled, "You're really good at this." She paused, then blushed, "Um, I completely forgot to ask you this, but what's your name? I can't just call you you." She laughed a bit, nervously, "And if you keep giving good advice I might just need to find you some time. That and she felt a bit silly talking to someone whose name she didn't even know. And hey, maybe they could find some stuff for him too?

"I'm Antony," Antony said with a bright smile. "And you are?"
He had found the super soakers, Shade thought cheerfully. And it was a wonderful thing.

Oh. Shoot she could have sworn she'd told him. Maybe not though. "I'm Manuela, but you can call me Manny if you like," she said, pointing over toward her mother, "And that's Estelle, my mom." She glanced over toward the man that had been standing by him, maybe that was his dad? Didn't really look much like him, but sometimes families were like that as Deliliah and Riley had shown her.

"That's my father, Shade," Antony said as he noticed the look. "He's not very good at fashion. So are you going to Liberty Center?"
