Hi everyone,
Now, I know I'm a mod for the guild, and I've been on Gaia since 2003, so I'm not exactly a N00b, but in a lot of ways, I sort of am. I came to Gaia in 2003, but I left for years! rofl I've only been back for a year or so now.. most of my time spent in this very guild.
I've been here for a long time but I don't have a lot of the rare items, etc, because I just wasn't around to get them. I like Gaia now, I didn't back in 2003, but now I have a good time. Despite that, I can't help but noticing that everyone else, even a lot of new people... are well... a LOT richer than I am. Now, I make posts, I answer polls, I post journals, I vote and comment in the arenas, I do a lot of things to get gold, but it still seems to take a looong time. I can barely make the 12,000 or so I need per month to buy the donation items.
So my question to you all is:
How do you make your gold? What is your favorite method? What are pros and cons of certain methods? Do you sell items? If you do, aren't you afraid of someone using hacked gold and having a loss of your account? I've heard horror stories so I'm a little wary of using the marketplace too much.
What advice would you give for making gold? We can discuss with each other and share ideas! rofl I don't know, I just thought this would be a good topic to have.
My favorite (easy) way to make gold is to post a journal entry. It only takes a few seconds, and it's a good 50 gold! Woo!

Slightly unrelated, does anyone know if the cost of rare inks is going down now that they can be used for Tattoos? Over the last three days, I've gotten two rare inks from Daily Chance, purple and gold.

From what it looks like the ink prices for rare ink are going down dramatically. Those inks use to be in the 1k-4k range, now they are only a couple of hundred gold. If you go to tektek, you should be able to follow the price of ink... and any other items you might be curious about.

I post, post and post more. I also vote in polls, comment in profiles and of course, I keep my journal active. That's 50g a day just for that. I then use the mule. Easily make 400 and that account + 500 on this one a day.
Once in a while I do some puzzles when I have some more time. Good luck.

Well I've been a member since 2003 Nessa and I've been having the same problems as you but despite all the horror stories I've found playing the marketplace game to be quite fun xd ...its very addictive and I've been able to make 15k just this week out of a measly 500g by just buying and selling...I really like bidding too...especially when I get the satisfaction of sniping someones bid in the last 10 seconds twisted ..as for the risk I just figure it's only pixels so it's not life threatening if a few pixels get stolen...it just sucks alot (luckily I haven't been hacked yet)...I started hanging around in the marketplace after reading this thread actually...helped me out alot even though it talks about common sense that I just never paid attention to...here's the link How to make 100kThere are other things that you could do too of course but the best methods that I have heard of so far was to just get about 5 different mules and play with them on the site by posting, doing the daily chance etc..I'm not advocating mules though since I think having them is still "technically" illegal right? sweatdrop

Hee hee, j/k. I don't have a lot of spare gold but here are my tips. I earn most of my Gaia money via fishing, your best investment is a strength plus or a distance plus rod. If fishing isn't your forte try the strength plus rod. It costs 12k, now if you can't afford this (Cause it is expensive) let me know and I can try making a donation to you. You've always been nice to me in the guild, and the better fishing rod can make the fishing game more relaxing and less "SHOOT-lost a fish!". Trick with fishing: buy f grade bait and fish in Durem. Durem is super hard, but if you have a plus rod it's not so bad. Then I sell my fish, Biters are pretty profitable, as are Boldurs (boldurs are a little tricky to catch though). If you sell the fish raw (as in don't trade for hats) you are usually in luck, even if you just sell the fish back to old man logan. Generally from 3-4 buckets I have 700 gold worth of fish. I used to like word bump because it was the only gaian game to give -more- money the longer you played. But right now it's down cry cry cry I also have 2 -cough, cough- mules. I am an evil person... Also, if you have a couple bucks (real currency) for extra donation letters you can get those and sell them. I suspect that is how people get such fancy items on here, a lot of them are probably investing real money in Gaia... Rare Inks are dropping due to their new appearance in daily chance, or at least increased appearance. This is somewhat disturbing to me. I like better chances at ink, but now the ink is worth very little.

Well I'm addicted to the puzzles the word bump and the marketplace. I know I'm evil but I do snatch things up at the last second or hunt a specific items usually to sell. I have earned a lot of sellable prizes in the puzzles. Another thing I do is I love hunting for tokens. You can play blackjack and easily make at least 2 tickets per token and then sell them on the market or trade them often for 2g a piece. Some work, but a good +4x the investment.

The quickest way for me to make any gold, is when I buy the sealed usually shortly after my first paycheck of the month, I buy 20 and sell all but like 3 or 4 of them. I'll make anywhere between 10-15K per sealed.
I'm also a puzzle addict. ^_^
I mostly posts in the guilds I'm in, rarely do I venture out, so I don't get much gold that way.

I must admit though, I don't often have that much time to spend in the marketplace. I have definitely made plenty of gold that way in the past though! Most of my gold comes from posting (right here!!) and polling and I quite like a bit of wordbump of an afternoon as well! Occasionally when I buy my donation letters I'll get an extra one or two and flog them in the marketplace.....

Well now...depends if I like the monthly collectibles I just buy 'em... I try to be on everyday for voting in the arenas and for the daily chances. It's really hard to make gold, you have to be on for hours to get 5000g sweatdrop .. At times it's best to wait (than to buy it right off) when the collectibles are a bit cheaper in the market and always look for the cheapest ones like a hawk. It will save you some g that way.

I still feel that fishing is one of the best ways to make gold around here, and I'll explain. Almost three days ago, I had about 500 gold! My current wardrobe wasn't cheap by any means. So 500 is not a lot certainly, but enough for what I needed...bait! A budget minded Gaian need only spend 400 gold for high quality bait. A lot of Gaians don't know that "A" bait should only be used by people in competition mode, because it doesn't degrade. "Degrade? What's this all about?" Lacerta's long-winded Fishing Advice* For reasons I don't know, fishing bait degrades in strange ways. "F" bait is the cheapest at 25 gold, and you can fish for two buckets, and it will catch fish as well as if you were using "A" bait. After that, you'll start catching smaller fish and more junk! So in order to get all the gold you deserve, switch to "D" bait, available for 100 gold each. "D" bait acts as "A" bait for three buckets, then degrades to "D" level (honestly, there's not much difference between "D" and "F") and then you're limited to "A" bait if you wish to catch the most profitable fish. If you're like me, you're probably not on Gaia all day (OK, I plead the 5th razz ) and you want to try and get the most gold in the least amount of time, fishing may be the way to go for you. Keep in mind that selling to Logan isn't nearly as profitable as selling in the Marketplace. Almost any Large fish (Striper, Tuna and Boldur) will get you at least 60 gold each in the Marketplace! I sold six Sand Boldurs in the marketplace for a total of 900 gold today, and I had them at a discount from the 'going rate.' So since the early morning of the 15th, I've gone from 500 gold to over 3700 gold not doing anything extraordinary, and I even bought my mule some accessories! So if I could do it, so can you mrgreen *Keep in mind...if you wish to fish for profit, you should seek the following long before you start buying nifty clothes/hairstyles/accessories:
Trading Pass--500 gold
Vending Pass--1000 gold (Correct me if I'm wrong)
A PLUS Rod (Distance, Strength or Performance)--Upwards of 11,000 gold
It took me a LONG time to get all this together, but it's been worth it because now I'll never be out of gold! Good luck out there!

I don't buy as many but I do tend to buy a few letters (2 or 3 for myself and 2 or 3 to sell). I usually hold on to them for a while before I decide to sell them, though.

I also got into buying donation letters and living off of the turnaround. Unfortunatley, The MC's haven't been doing too well lately, so now I'm looking for popular old items that people are looking for like old school halloween and xmas items.

Durem is fabulous. 3 pebbos and you've made profit already. I suspect the decline of MC's has been due to the following: -3 monthly collectibles, 3 more options people have to choose between. Unfortunately buyers only have so much to work with... -Buy for Profit: MC's used to be more for enjoyment, but it quickly dawned on people they could buy MCs with a very small amount of real money and then sell it for a nice chunk of Gaia money. The downside is everyone is doing it now, so more MCs are being purchased, like crazy. More being purchased, especially for profit, the price drops drastically because it's a competitive market.

The Gaia creators are evil geniouses..seriously though they get a nice profit from all the users purchasing the items with real money, especially if it's three items per letter...I'm hoping they are puting the money to a good cause though...like getting more servers for a battle system etc... ninja
