Tristan Kane wasn't entirely sure how he had ended up in the garden on the grounds. He really didn't like plants much they had never interested him much and after some unfortunate events he would probably never own a house plant. Yet now he was surrounded by plants.
It was Holden. He had found he had a difficult time saying no to the little boy so when Holden had told him he wanted to go look for bugs what has Tristan to do but bring him to the most likely place to find bugs. It was a step forward for Holden too, bugs were dirty and this showed he didn't always need to be obsessively clean.
So he sat on one of the paths in the garden with a tank of sorts he had used in the past for some of his work back in the days of laboratories and tests tubes. It was a bit big but it would do for now.
Holden was having a great time as he walked among the plants looking for bugs. He had seen some in one of Tristan's many many books and a few of them looked to be really very shiny and he planned to add them to his collection. He hadn't had much luck yet though, he had only succeeded in getting himself dirty... He'd need a bath when they got home...

Kaindra had followed her nose. The adventure girl always loved nature, and a good layer of dirt felt good on her, almost as good as washing it off did. The kitsune knew how to enjoy being dirty and to enjoy being clean. For now though the kitsune hadn't been around much, she was trying to get another job, was getting settled into her new place and was trying to learn her way around, this time she was smart and left painted rocks from her house so she wouldn't get lost like last time.
For now though she enjoyed the scent of flowers. It reminded the kitsune that she needed to find new plants. Her old ones were proably dead by now, she doubted her ex-landlord was watering them. With a soft sigh to lost life she put plants on her long list of things she needed to buy. Right there with a bed, dishware, more clothes and a couch in case she ever made friends in this place. Or her brother just poped in again.
She turned the corner and stoped, blinking as she saw two people there already. Well a man and a child, she almost took a step back. She didn't do god dealing wiht family scenes, she could deal with singles and stuff but when she was with parents she felt...well like she was back with her folks. that had to stop though, these people were neighbors, and soon Adair would be there, and he'd need friends, wouldn't it be nice if she could introduce him to some people?
Besides, she wanted flowers.
"Hey." she flahsed a friendly grin and waved, walking up with a mild wag of the tal, noticing the boy's odd coloring for the first time. He must be a soul too, or whatever these things were called, "I'm Kainda, I'm new around here." she introduced as she looked between the two, wondering if this was a mistake. "Uhhh, lovely flowers."

Tristan had been off somewhere in a daydream. Hopelessly bored himself, but stuck here because of his boy, he could at least entertain himself within the confines of his own mind. His day dreams were odd though, having watched far too many movies in his life. His current one was something that could have been a cross between Indian Jones, Alien and Gremlins.
He didn't notice anyone approaching and was actually very startled by when she spoke. He jumped a little then looked up, blankly at first before smiling. "Oh, hello. I'm Tristan, nice to meet you."
Holden, unlike his caretaker had seen her coming and had half frozen on the spot in a manner that might make you think he had some deer in him too. He waited like that for a while until about when Tristan spoke, before turning back to his bug hunt.

Kaindra smiled as the man jumped, glancing over him and then held out her hand, "It's nice to meet you." she told him and then glanced down to the silent child. She tilted her head to the side and watched him dig and grined, realized what he was doing. She looked for bugs all the time when she was a kid, got her folks so dirty, it messed up her clothes. So of course she just convinced Ethan to join her and got them both in trouble.
"Hey, you wont find any good bugs in this kind of dirt." Kaindra warned the racoon boy, "Just earthworm and rolly polly bugs. They're not very cool, if you went into the forest I'm sure you'd find neater ones, especially around trees." Kaindra grined and then glanced back to Tristian. She gave an embaressed grin and wondered if he wouldn't mind what she just said. he did bring his kid here so aparently he didn't mind too much.
"Unless your dad says no or something." she mumbled and blushed as she rubed the back of her head. "Uhhhh, sorry, I just got a little excited. I use to bug hunt. I'm gonna get my soul, todler, thing, soon so I'm trying to be more open to kids and such."

When Kaindra mentioned bugs she had stolen Holden's attention. He turned back to her and looked at her with his large brown eyes from behind his mask and listened intently.
So he had been doing it wrong, thats why he hadn't found anything special. But she seemed to know where he could find them. She looked to Tristan for permission but Holden didn't care. He walked out of the garden and stood next to his caretaker, grabbing a hold of his arm and beginning to pull.
Tristan laughed a little as she apologized and Holden tugged on him. "It's alright. Besides he decided most things for me anyways I don't get much of a say." He said as he manged to get Holden to let go of him long enough so that he could stand up. "Would you like to come along? I'm sure he'd love your expertise in finding them, I'm rather useless, and hands on experience is probably the best way to get use to a kid. Oh, and he is Holden."

"He doesn't talk much does he?" Kainda asked as she looked down the the rancoon boy who hadn't said a word since she arive despite the fact he was clearly asking his father something. He looked cute though and the kitsune grined, bending down a little to look the boy straght in his mask covered eyes. "Hey there Holden, you got a cool tail. I got one too, see?"
Kainda turned slightly to flash her fox tail that swished around before resting behind her again. She glanced at him and wondered if he would even care, he seemed more interested in getting neat looking bugs than he did in forming a realtionship.
"I'd love to come along, if you do me a favor and show me how to get back." Kainda told Tristan, glancing up at him and giving him another sheepish little grin. "I'm afraid I can get lost rather easily, especially in a new place. But I left a trail back to my place." she jerked her finger back to the painted rocks. "But I'm out of rocks so I'll need help back."

"No, he barely says a word, its almost all pantomime with him," Tristan said with a bit of a sigh, It frustrated him but there wasn't much he could do about it, Holden was who he was.
Tristan tried not to laugh though when she pointed to the painted rocks. It had a very 'Hansel and Gretel' vibe and it brought a smile to his face. At least she wasn't using bread crumbs.
"I'd be happy to help you find your way back. Assuming I can too, one would hope I can cause I've been living here a while," he was joke, or at least trying too, he was kinda bad at it.
Holden did take note of the tail and smiled a little, swinging his own back and forth for a moment. It was quite like his, more like his tail then Ina's had been and that amused him at least a little. It was fleeting however and he soon started tugging on Tristan again.

Odd Kainda thought to herself, looking over the silent boy but smiled when she saw her tail amused him, if only for a moment. So maybe she wasn't that bad at this whole amusing kids thing. That's good as she had no idea when she'd get little Adair. Soon she hoped, this waiting thing was killing her. Though she supposed she should learn the compound before she started draging a kid all around it.
She glanced at Tristian and grined, giving him a soft chuckle for his not so funny joke. Still eh attempted and she admited that. She stood up and decided to give the kid a break and started to walk, knowing both would follow along, she was the one that was holding back to try to get closer to the kid.
"Do you know why he barely talks?" Kaindra asked, looking down at the kid, a bit interested, then back to Tristan, "Most kids don't do that right? I mean most of the kids here, I've always been horrible at charedes." she admited and worried that Adair would be silent, her ears droping at the thought. That be hard, she'd deal with it, but it be hard.

"I was terrible at understanding him at first too," Tristan admitted, "for the first week or so I had no idea what he wanted from me, I've gotten better though. But most of the kids around here are normal, save for the animal attributes, but they can talk. I have no idea why he is the way he is, he can talk he just doesn't seem to like too."
Having answered her question Tristan walked along, hands now stuff in his pockets trying to think of some sort of small talk to keep conversation up. He didn't like silence with people, especially new people. He really wished he wasn't so hopeless at social interaction.
"So uh..." he said after a moment, "excited about getting a kid of your own?"
Holden was happy they were walking now. He let go of Tristan and walked farther ahead of the two adults to try and urge them on. He knew where he was going. He got bored easy and since Tristan wasn't the greatest with supervision, he got out a lot. He had learned most of the grounds.

"Well that's good to know. He's a racoon isn't he?" Kainda watched as Holden ran off ahead and glanced at Tristan to make sue that he seemed fine with it and he did. So she just looked forward, atching him slightly. he seemed like a cute kid at least. Not being around kids alot made her try to be more aware of them now, she just didn't want to get in over her head. "What other animals are kids blended with here? Is it only animals?"
She had a million questions about this place honestly. Ones that didn't enter her mind when she was with the oiffical, besides they ewre silly questions, like what were the other kids like and if the other guardians were friendly or something. Very...first day of school questions.
"A little, I was when i was first told about it, right now all I am is nervous. I haven't been around kids much you know? How was your first few days?" Kaindra asked, a little nervous but it was better with someone to talk to at least.

"Yeah raccoon, he acts just like one too sometimes, taking food and anything shiny he can get his hands on," he said as he himself watched his little boy, his parents had been incredibly relaxed with him and he couldn't help but be the same way. "I think I remember Dacian telling me they could be items but I've only seen animal children, a hawk boy and a wolf girl."
He understood her nervousness pretty well. He next had any contact with kids before this and while he had been ready and willing to agree to it all he had been a little mortified too.
"You get use to it, get better at it really. My first days with Holden were frustrating but that has a little to do with his muteness. He has this really weird eating habit that I could figure out so he wouldn't eat and he didn't seem to like the apartment for some reason..." he paused when he realized he probably wasn't doing anything to make her less nervous, "figured it all out though, we get along well now, things are good," he said with an attempt to reassure her.
Holden had gotten to the forest by now where he waited. This new adult seemed to know about bugs and where to find the good ones so he wanted her help. However they were walking far to slow for his liking, looking back at the two he yelled, "Hurry!" Tristan seemed to make a big deal when he spoke so hopefully it would get him running.

Kainda nodded slowly, listening carefully. She was already worried about the transition period and it sounded like it would be as hard as she feared. Oh well, she'd have to get use to it, transition was always hard, even moves were hard and she was really use to them. It wasn't like she was use to getting kids.
"Well I kind of expected that." Kainda admited, "You know, the hard transiton, but I dunno, I just kinda wish I knew more I geuss. Hey if I'm having problems would you mind if I like...contacted you or something. Normally I'd bug family but my brother is more of a flake than I am and I don't talk with my parents. It be nice if I could ask someone who actually knew a little bit about what is suppose to be done." Kainda asked with a sheepish smile.
A smile that stoped when she heard a brand new voice. She turned quickly and smiled when she heard Holden. "Hey! I see you're not shy." the kitsune said as she did speed up. She was ignoring him, proably not a good idea since she needed to get use to kids.

Tristan smiled a little, he personally didn't think he was the best of parents but Kaindra seemed to think he wasn't completely terrible at least. Made him feel like he wasn't a total failure. "I'd be glad to help you in what ever way I can."
At Holden's call Tristan sped up to. Reaching the boy he pat him on the head, trying some positive reinforcement to get the boy to talk more.
Holden didn't like the patting much though, so he brushed away his guardian and went to Kaindra grabbing her hand and did his best to pull her a little further into the trees and then looking at her expectingly.

"Right, the bugs." Kainda grined as she let herself get tugged away. She took a few steps to take the lead and headed over to a certain tree, it had a big trunk and reached up high but Kainda also saw it had loose bark, and when she put her hand against it it moved.
"Here's a good one. You know why? The tree is starting to die so the bugs are eating away at the dead tree bark so you get some pretty cool bugs because all sort of bugs likes to eat decaying tree." Kainda explained, and bent down to his height as she pulled some of the bark off to revel all sorts of bugs crawling away from the sun light. Her hand moved quickly and snatched a bright bug. Clearly she never devolped a fear of the creepy crawlies.
"See the color's on this one's shell?" she asked, holding it out to the boy. "It's a special beatle. I use to know the name but I haven't done this in a while. My brother might still have my old bug book. I could see if I could hunt it up and give it to you, if you want it."

Holden watched and listened intently as she showed him and explained why the bugs were there. When she took away the bark and all the bugs began to crawl he became very excited, his tail swinging back and forth to demonstrate it.
He looked at the bug in her hand in awe, he had suspected bugs would look nice close up but until then he hadn't been sure. When she mentioned the bug book he looked at her and nodded vigorously, it sounded very cool.
Tristan watched from a little way back. It was that he was afraid of bugs, he was a country boy at heart, he had just never really liked them. He smiled at the sight of them though, how very excited Holden seemed to be. "He really seems to like you, I doubt you'll have any trouble with kids."
