first off. ive always been a big music person (like im sure most of you guy here are too. at the very least an avid listener). i remember when american idol came on tv and watching kelly clarkson become the kareoke - *COUGH* american idol on national television made me think (like all aspiring singers think) "damn, i can do this!"
after that i never saw another season but thats besides the point. the eliminations are the only reason worth watching.
anywho..... on a whim this year im seriously debating doing the audition in san deigo (and possibly dragging my sister along cause she did the same to me at an audition we did in LA several years ago. we both ended up getting called back several times but didnt go any farther when we realized we had to pay 1000$ each to continue....it wasnt a scam. it was done by the Musicians Institued in LA but still...shat load of money...)
now i just need the courage to do it. mainly for shits and giggles, but obviously if im gonna do it, i gotta go 100% or its all for nothing.
have you ever though about doing something that takes an enormous amount of courage to do? (not just music. but in general.) american idol. how bad and good is it? karaoke? william hung?
(i've narrowed down alot of songs i could pull off with my voice and so far the choices ive got are The Spill Canvas - "Stapplegunned" and Jimmy Eat World - "Hear You Me" mainly becasue they are fun to sing and they are in my range. Ive been told i sound exactly like nick from TSC. any ideas? yeah its written GD style cause i want to see the reaction i get from there too haha.)

I think you should go for it. The only thing ive ever done that took alot of courage for me is standing up to someone at school. That may sound little but if you knew me you would know that was a big deal. But you should definitely go for it. rofl

I have mixed opinions of it, because if you're really frickin' good you should definately try.
However, if you're just alright, or not as much of a solo singer (some people just sound better in choirs)... if you're a good singer like me, but not a powerfully strong singer, I probably wouldn't do it.
People have told me to, but even if I had kept excersizing my voice like I used to with choir, I wouldn't do it because it's just not going to happen, and I'd rather not just end up as one of the people they're making fun of.
When American Idol came to Birmingham last season for auditions, two of my co-workers went. One of them was a girl from Kenya who I wasn't surprised didn't get it, because she didn't have a bad voice but she seemed to have trouble controlling her pitch and tone. The other had a good singing voice, and he got past the first auditions. Of course, he also made sure to dress in bright and distinct clothes to get their attention, and it worked. He got called back to the second auditions... and he went in there in front of a bunch of cameras and some judges and when he told them what he wanted to sing (from a list he had compiled) they wouldn't let him sing one of the songs... He finally just randomly thought up a song he was alright at singing that they would even allow him to sing, and then when he finished they started going off on him... He told me "They were trying to get me to act crazy, or to cry, but I just thanked them and walked off".
They bring people in just to make fun of them... and while I realize it's fair play, they were trying to make him do something crazy and stupid. It wasn't like they were just being honest with him, he could tell they were trying to make him go off.
On a similar note: people don't believe when I tell them I was on American Idol...for like two seconds. When Ruben Studdard came to Birmingham for some promotional thing at the mall, I happened to be at the mall shopping and my friend and I got his autograph just for fun... her parents were watching the show later and said my entire face was on screen for a few seconds, while half of my friend's face was. Pretty awesome, I know xp
On a funnier note: nobody gives a s**t about Ruben Studdard anymore, even here in Alabama, since we have two more idols who have done more since becoming such. He comes to the theater I worked at and he tries to cut in line 'cause he's famous, and my co-workers have told him multiple times to get to the end of the line.
I've done things that take courage, but I can't remember them right now sweatdrop
