The filly had spent the day with her sister, playing and frolicking, but the time came as with most sugar-high children when she started to feel a little bit… defensive. One of her sisters would knock into her and that would make her want to push them down and run. Her mamma’s smile wouldn’t seem friendly enough and she’d want to kick and squeal about how she wasn’t being treated fairly. All-in-all she was becoming the dreaded petulant child.
And if anybody said-so.. Boy were they going to get it.
Tossing her mane in a practiced gesture, one so very similar to her mother’s trying to get the purple out of her face, the little one looked about. Decisions, decisions… She could go back to where her mother was and spend time with her sisters again and possibly take a group nap, or she could go out on her own and find some cool place where nobody would make her angry.
Flossy really wasn’t a mean filly by any means, she simply needed a nap and was refusing to take one until her body forced it upon her. It would take a very patient creature not to find her annoying right now.. Or one with a similarly cranky temperament.

Shishio sighed blissfully as the swaying branches of a willow tree brushed against his back. He passed under the hanging branches, and began to walk towards clearer ground.
He never liked to be away from Alenazsa for long, and even less so since she had revealed to him that she was pregnant with his children. The glistening white waves of her hair, her ebony skin marred only by beautiful roses and twining vines, her eyes that held all the mystery and beauty of the heavens above. But the wonderful mare he had fallen in love with had been slowly masked by a hormonal, grumpy mess. Sure, he still loved her. He would care for her through these tough times, and they'd emerge victorious! ... with a few bundles of love to care for.
But lately, she hadn't wanted him around. Even though he was her world, her light, she had begun to crave a bit of space- something very difficult to find when one was very heavy with foal.
Shishio sighed once more, his masculine face contorting and becoming softer, gentler. Ebon-grey eyes scanned the area about him as he searched for... who knew what?

Flossy was currently beginning to get just a little bit wild. One of the willow branches had gotten wrapped around a leg when she’d been throwing a miniature temper-tantrum. Now she was about to throw a real one.
At least her mother couldn’t see her right now. Lovey had told her that that frightful temper was going to grab a hold of her one day and not be in the mood to let go, well.. A willow tree was just as good. Her bright green eyes were starting to have tears glistening in them. If she didn’t get loose soon she’d start screaming and someone would come to her rescue. Of course, getting loose would be easy if she stopped struggling. A cranky filly never does what would be easy. Oh for the love of all things holy. Stupid tree had better unhand her.
Finally as she began to become too tired to fight properly the branch loosened and she stood stock still. So the little bugger wanted to play dirty huh? She’d show it… as soon as it let go completely.
Her eyes lifted and looked around the area, seeing through the trees and such wasn’t very easy for her to do.. And with the distraction and the low visibility she didn’t even see the stallion not far off.

Shishio's ears twitched and swiveled back towards the grove of willow trees. The sounds of some form of struggle had been carried on the wind to him, and from the noises things weren't going to well; rustling branches, falling leaves, little noises that could have come from a human or Soquili mouth.
The stallion re-routed his course and headed back into the trees, searching now with an increased fervor to find the source of this commotion. When the noises stopped, so did he. He waited for the noises to come again, to lead him to whatever was making them. When they did not, he walked forwards... and spotted her.
A small dusty-tan filly with glowering green eyes, caught in a limb of a willow tree.
He approached cautiously, eyeing the branch and pondering the best way to get her out. "Hello there, little one. If you can only stand still I shall have you out of here in no time."

Flossy wished that she could turn to look at the one who had snuck up on her more easily. She’d been staring out the wrong way to see him. It wasn’t fair. This wasn’t fair. Nothing was fair. Everybody was cheating to make her feel unhappy. Why would they do that to her? She’d been a good girl.
Finally, tossing a piece of purple hair out of her eyes she went still again and just waited. He’d help her and she’d gather her conversation skills for a moment before speaking to him. Of course, it wasn’t his fault she had been caught. He was being nice and helping.. But the urge to cry was building up rather rapidly.
A quiet sniffle escape the filly and she swung her head around to look at him.
“Oh-Okay.” There, now she’d managed to speak to him. She wasn’t rude to other really, just not overly happy right now and for all she knew it could be all his fault?

Shishio hesitated at the sniffle; if there was one thing he was unsure about, it was crying. How does one deal with a mare or filly in tears? Most are inconsolable, and when you try to comfort them only begin to cry more. He had even met a mare quite a while ago who had cried from joy.
A quick shake of the head stopped him from panicking. If he was to be a father, he had to learn to deal with tears... right?
Shishio continued eyeing the vine quite calmly.
He reared, coming down hard on the vine; his sharp hooves cut through it and it snapped, though was still coiled around the filly's leg. He began tugging at it, attempting to free her completely.

The stallion was wise to be weary of a sniffling filly. Either Flossy would detonate and nearly scream with tears and sobs.. Or she’d just nuzzle up against him pathetically. Some children were mild-mannered enough to never be moody like this, she wasn’t one of those children.
Flossy’s head began to sink and she stared at the ground. Was she stupid because she had gotten her leg all tangled up?
Nobody would like her if she was stupid.
If nobody liked her.. She’d have no friends and be alone the rest of her life. A tear slid down her face and she sniffed again. Something would have to distract her mind or else it would probably get more morbid.

With one final yank, the vine came loose, and the filly was freed. Shishio straightened, a proud glimmer in his eye. "There we go... you're free-" he stopped, almost frozen as the single shimmering tear caught his attention. His ears perked forwards, his body tensing. Battle sadness with... What was it? Opposites. Opposites... Happiness.
A grin alighted Shishio's features. "Are you going to let a little vine like that keep you down?" He shook his nose in the vine's direction, scrunching up his face into a comedic expression. "No! Come, who's up for a game of tag?"
Had he done right in asking her to play? ... Hopefully she wouldn't think less of a stallion who acted with a foal-ish manner... then again, act was the true word, was it not? For it was a facade, put on to cheer up the filly.
But a convincing one at that; there were no outward clues that Shishio was having a mild mental breakdown in the form of self-doubt inside.

Flossy couldn’t help but feel a bit better when the stupid tree decided to let go of her leg. She was old enough now that in theory she should have been able to get free, but her attention span lacked the focus, her mood lacked the drive, and she wasn’t a large filly by any means. Her bright eyes looked up at the stallion.
A sniffle made her body tremble but she shook her head no, just with little conviction. “You.. You like to play tag?” The hopefulness in her eyes was blatant… Most adults refused to play tag with her even on a cool day.
Flossy still hadn’t decided if she was going to cry or not, but the idea of having a big-Soquili play with her made her feel just a bit better. Sure, she wasn’t’ feeling too good, but hey… Tag was the best game on earth!
Turning around and giving him a rather pitiful look she spoke before taking off running, “You.. You can’t catch me!”

Actually... the full grown stallion could catch her, he simply chose not to. After all, what were a pair of spindly foal legs against those of a stallion?
Even though Shishio did not yet have children of his own, he understood that foals were treated differently then other adults. One did not simply crush the pride of foals as one might with big-headed adults, rather let the small one believe that they would win- and believe enough in themselves to grow up to fine young mares and stallions...
Shishio let out a laugh, and made like he was a bull about to charge; head lowered, hooves scratching at the dirt. "No, but I can try!" He started off at a rather slow pace, one that the filly could easily outdistance, but he kicked up enough dirt and picked his hooves up high enough that it could easily be mistaken for a faster pace.
... Plus, what was the fun in winning against a filly?

Flossy probably knew in the back of her mind that he could very easily catch her. The innocence of youth made her ignore the possibility of it.
Her body was already responding pretty well to the running, her legs worked in unison to carry her as far as she needed to go. Of course, later when the little one got home her body would be even more exhausted and her mind would probably start to demand that she behave like a little brat. Sometimes it was just too hard being little!
Her little neck arched and she gazed back at him with childish delight. He looked ready to mow her over but wasn’t going fast enough to even get halfway close to her! The shining yellow heart on her rump shimmered a bit as if reflecting her mood and Flossy thought of what to say to make the stallion continue to keep on playing.
“Is that the best you can do!? My grandpa could run faster.. I think!”

Shishio laughed once more, the sound echoing to the heavens. No, it was not the best he could do. Far from it, in fact...
He increased his pace ever so slightly, enough to give the filly the sense of the chase without actually coming within range of catching her.
"Your grandpa? I may find that insulting had I not heard hesitation in your voice!" He shook his head, mane waving gently in the breeze. "Don't tell me he never played tag with his own grandchildren!"
If Shishio had grandchildren... or even children, for that matter... he would not hesitate to spend every waking moment by their side.

Flossy’s laughter was a cheery bubble around and around as she ran. Tag was such a great game to play… Her favorite in fact.
Her neon green eyes looked behind her to see him gaining on her a bit and she put her neck down and let it’s power speed her up.
The desire to turn and stick her tongue out at him was raising. Alas, running and looking backwards for more than a mere second didn’t go hand-in-hand for her right now. She hadn’t actually met her grandpa…
The thought made the sadness come back for a moment, but the filly pushed the thoughts away. She’d ask her mamma later.

Shishio's ears were perked as he waited for a response, searching for words amidst the torrent of laughter. When he found none, not even the whisper of a 'yes' or 'no', he let it go... and continued running.
He dodged a tree that had popped up out of nowhere, jumping out of the way with his tail streaming like a banner. (Well... the tree did not so much 'pop' as stand where it had been since it had germinated in the ground... it was Shishio that had done the popping.) He chased after the filly, taking care never to get too close... the game hadn't gone on nearly long enough.
A flock of birds darted into the sky, startled from their perch amongst the tree branches by the fast-approaching Soquili... and the sound of their ringing laughter.
